As chiropractic adjusts the bones, massage focuses on relaxing and lengthening the muscles and soft tissue.
Tense muscles can cause skeletal misalignments, which is why massage is beneficial prior to a chiropractic adjustment in order to ensure longer lasting results. Equally, many personal training clients report improvements in their training sessions thanks to improved flexibility and range of motion, and all our trainers are advocates of the immense benefits of regular massage.
We offer a unique range of treatments that will leave you feeling like a new person.
Our Massage Modalities page on our website provides you with a description of them to make it easier for you to choose the right one for you. Most services can be booked as a 60- or 90-minute treatment. Deep tissue and Swedish massage can also be booked as a 30-minute treatment.
On that note, massage boasts a plethora of benefits
including but not limited to:
Stress and anxiety reduction
Improved flexibility and range of motion
Reduced adhesions, scar tissue and swelling after surgery
Among other things, massage is used to treat
the following conditions:
Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion
Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays
Ease medication dependence
Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow-the body's natural defense system
Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles
Help athletes of any level prepare for and recover from strenuous workouts
Improve the condition of the body's largest organ-the skin
Increase joint flexibility
Lessen depression and anxiety

Possessing both artistic and scientific gifts, Joanne finds that massage enables her to combine the two for the benefit of those she is treating. Joanne loves seeing how she can make a difference in people's lives by helping to facilitate their healing. She enjoys lifelong learning and the many continuing education courses she takes in order to make her a more well-rounded therapist. Skills: Reiki Master Teacher.
Donna Polito, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified; Personal Trainer. Donna began her healing career as a personal trainer and obtained her Bachelor's in Kinesiology from West Chester University. An athlete her whole life, fitness was her passion from an early age, inspiring her to help and educate people how to acquire and maintain a healthy lifestyle. As she puts it, "You are only given one body; treat it right!" As a personal trainer, her clients were seeing great results in their fitness goals. However, many of them would come to her a few days later, expressing muscle soreness and wanting to know what they could do to relieve this other than stretching. Donna remembered how as a two-sport collegiate athlete (field hockey/softball) she first turned to massage to help her body prepare and recuperate before and after her games. Consequently, she decided to turn to massage herself to help her clients live pain-free lives. Donna feels that "this is by far the best decision I have ever made". Donna now enjoys teaching athletes the importance of taking care of their bodies and the benefits massage has on their performance. Donna's approach to massage is both intuitive and clinical. With a gentle yet deep touch, she specializes in techniques, such as deep tissue, corrective massage, sports massage, Swedish massage and myofascial release, to develop, maintain and rehabilitate the physical function of the body. In an age of technical and, at times, impersonal medicine, Donna believes that massage offers a drug-free, non-invasive and humanistic approach based on the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Sarah Downing, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
Licensed Massage Therapist. Sarah was inspired to become a Licensed Massage Therapist after experiencing years of chronic illness and pain. Through her own healing journey she realized the importance of a holistic approach to healthcare and was moved to help others in the role of a "wounded healer". Having seen first-hand the impact of stress-related illness, Sarah knows how vital massage and the nurturing power of touch are for alleviating this. She believes that heartfelt intention is a huge part of healing and her treatments also incorporate her natural intuition, enabling her to customize them to her individual client's wishes and needs. Sarah specializes in deep tissue, sports massage, Thai massage ("assisted yoga", an energizing clothed massage), Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy® and is a Reiki Master Teacher. Alongside massage therapy, Sarah is a professional writer, poet and translator and has been blessed to experience life in three different countries (England, Germany and the US), which has opened her eyes and broadened her horizons. Skills:deep tissue, sports massage, Thai massage ("assisted yoga", an energizing clothed massage), Ashiatsu barefoot bar therapy and is a Reiki Master Teacher.
Alex Gecht, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
From the young age of 10, Alex developed an interest in the human body through practicing competitive judo. He joined the Junior National Team of Uzbekistan at age 16. The team got weekly rehabilitation massages, leading Alex to recognize the importance of massage for athletes. One year later, he began studying to become a judo coach and sport teacher. During this time, he also studied general massage and sports massage. After graduation, Alex stayed on to work as a gym instructor and sports facility supervisor. It was then that massage truly became his passion, hobby and second source of income. With a wide range of classes under his belt, including 1000 hours of medical massage, Thai yoga massage, hot stone massage, deep tissue massage and anmo, Alex is uniquely equipped to serve his clients using a signature massage he has developed from what he feels to be his most effective techniques. As Alex puts it, "Not only athletes need regular massages. Everyone does because of excessive sitting, poor posture, lifestyle and ergonomics." He has found that massage can improve everyone's life, enabling them to continue working productively. "Massage is not a luxury, but a necessity. I have had many jobs, but massage has a special place in my heart because it inspires and satisfies me when I help to facilitate healing through multiple therapies." And thanks to his background in athletics and physical education, Alex has a head start when it comes to seeing the big picture: "This enables me to take a more holistic, full-body approach to improve my clients' lives by giving them tips for a healthy lifestyle."
Meredith was originally drawn to massage as a means to relieve people's suffering. While working as a medical assistant and Certified Nursing Assistant, she realized that drugs aren't always the answer, and began massaging her patients' hands, heads and backs. With her intuitive and compassionate gift, she was able to impart relaxation and pain relief. What Meredith likes most about massage is the opportunity to work with different clients, the chance to become a better healer, the spiritual connection, the trust her clients place in her and the joy she experiences in working with them. In addition, she has found that healing others is often a two-way healing process – in giving she also receives, which is what makes this such an enriching career for her. As she puts it, "11 years later, here I am: an LMT, and loving every bit of it!" During her years as an LMT, Meredith has learned to come to peace, be a good listener, be kind and tune in to the body and listen to the muscles. She sees each client as an individual, and because of this she never stops learning. She is honored when clients partner with her on their road to healing. Meredith offers a wide range of modalities, including deep tissue, Swedish, hot stone, hydrotherapy, prenatal massage, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release and sciatic relief. Looking forward, she is excited to gain training in other modalities such as cupping, Thai massage and more.
Maxine Schrack, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
In her early teens, a relative of Maxine was involved in a car accident. She quickly saw how massage became a vital part of this person's rehabilitation treatment. This led Maxine to become fascinated by the health benefits of massage and how it can truly transform a person's capabilities, increase range of motion, decrease pain, and impart calmness, relaxation and a positive mindset for a happier, healthier life. Maxine is intrigued by how the body's systems are connected and the infinite number of modalities she can learn to improve clients' lives. One important lesson Maxine has learned from massage is being humble enough to know you are doing the right thing, yet encouraged to continually learn. Maxine graduated with high honors in Anatomy and Physiology from Cortiva in 2010. Since this time, she has mostly practiced alongside a physical therapist, treating clients with a variety of conditions, including but not limited to frozen shoulder, sciatica pain, plantar fasciitis, fibromyalgia and injuries due to car accidents. Maxine's technique is based on your body's needs. Typically, she applies medium to firm pressure, focusing on muscular or anatomical needs, followed by stretching (passive range of motion). Maxine customizes her massages by using trigger point therapy, localized hot stones or cupping to alleviate muscle tension and perform myofascial release.
Massage Modalities Offered at WHF
Deep tissue massage
This massage is both therapeutic and relaxing. It focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and the network of connective tissue surrounding the muscles and bones. This makes deep tissue massage the ideal choice for those suffering from chronic pain such as repetitive strain injuries, sciatica and any other kind of muscle tension or spasm. Slower than other massage techniques to warm the tissue before going deeper, deep tissue massage can be performed with a variety of pressures (to your comfort level) to break down adhesions and knots, the painful rigid tissue caused by tension. There may be some discomfort while performing these techniques on particularly tense areas and your body may feel like it does post-workout for a day or two afterwards. However, this tends to abate as you get it done more often, and ultimately clients experience extensive and often lasting relief of their symptoms. Ideally, as with any bodywork, this massage should be performed on a regular basis in order to maintain your body and prevent it from becoming accustomed to holding itself in a tense state. Combine this with Thai massage assisted stretching for a massage that not only relieves your tension, but also increases your range of motion and flexibility.
Long gliding strokes, kneading and friction on the more superficial muscle layers improve blood flow to the soft tissues, increase circulation and alleviate muscle tension. Whilst deep tissue tends to get more "to the heart of the matter" by relieving chronic pain, Swedish massage is more about overall relaxation. Combine this with Thai massage assisted stretching for a massage that not only relieves your tension, but also increases your range of motion and flexibility.
Enhance your athletic performance with a deep tissue massage combined with sports stretches to increase your body's range of motion, endurance, speed of response and flexibility for your upcoming game, or to relax and recuperate after the exertion of sports and reduce your recovery time. For gym clients we generally recommend getting a massage after working out. Because our therapists work closely with our trainers, this enables our team to devise a regime for you that will ensure you reach your goals.
A nurturing massage where the mother to be is specially bolstered and positioned to ensure her comfort. Reduces typical pregnancy swelling and stress on feet, ankles, lower back and neck. At WHF pregnancy massage is only performed after the first trimester.
Affectionately dubbed "lazy man's yoga", this approximately 2,500-year-old art form is traditionally performed fully clothed on a padded mat (though it can be performed on the table) and is suitable for those in search of a more energizing massage experience. The client wears loose and comfortable attire such as sportswear to facilitate the series of assisted poses, stretches and compressions. The practitioner uses their forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create increased flexibility, energy (by opening up the body's energy/sen lines) and better postural alignment. A much sought after modality due to its multitude of benefits, we are proud to be among the few in the area to offer this unique therapy. If you wish, our therapists can also blend Thai massage with other modalities such as deep tissue to customize the perfect massage experience for you.
We are all made up of energy and in Reiki energy healing the practitioner fills themselves with the energy around them and subsequently transmits it to the client through their hands. The aim is to enhance the client's own healing abilities, induce relaxation and reduce pain. Depending on their level of openness and their rapport with the practitioner, each client may experience this differently. Often, it can be described as a tingling yet soothing sensation where the practitioner's hands heat up to soothe tension and bring about relaxation. For Reiki practitioners Reiki generally flows through their hands whenever they perform any type of healing work. If you would like Reiki to be part of your massage, please request one of our Reiki practitioners during the booking process. This is also available as a 1-hour standalone treatment.
Hot Stone Massage
Enhance your Swedish or deep tissue massage experience with the addition of heated stones to warm the muscles and additionally relieve muscle tension.
Shiatsu, also known as acupressure, is a Japanese form of bodywork where the therapist applies pressure with their thumbs, fingers, palms, knees and elbows to tsubo (acupressure points) along meridians (energy pathways) corresponding to the body's vital organs. This helps to balance the body's qi (energy flow) and impart relaxation and pain relief. Shiatsu also includes stretching, rocking and mobilization. This modality is traditionally performed fully clothed on a padded mat, though it can also be incorporated into your table massage.
Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy®
The therapist supports themselves by bars suspended above the massage table and uses their bare feet to give you a luxuriously different deep tissue massage. If you crave something different, this is the massage for you and we are one of the few facilities in the area to offer it!
Relax and enjoy some quality time with your significant other or a friend whilst two of our therapists pamper you side by side with a massage of your choice. *Please book at least a week in advance
Utilizes moist heat packs to provide heat to the areas of your body that are being treated. Adding the heat packs along with your massage helps to increase blood flow which relaxes the muscles, reduces pain, and promotes healing. This allows the massage therapist to work deeper and specific to the affected area. Adding heat packs to your massage can be used in combination with deep tissue massage and for relaxation. Other massage types can be used upon request. Available for 60-minute and 90-minute massage sessions. Appointments must be made a day ahead of time for this specific treatment.
Light touch moves excess lymph and fluid out of the tissues and back into lymphatic vessels. Excellent for conditions such as edema and boosting the immune system.
The therapist uses glass cups to apply suction to the surface of the body to draw out pathogens and invigorate the body's qi (energy flow). Provided in combination with massage or as a 30 minute cupping only treatment.
Add essential oils to any of our massages to enhance your psychological and physical wellbeing.
This is a stretching technique where the therapist slowly stretches the fascia, a fine network of connective tissue surrounding the body's muscles and organs, guided by the patient's response. Injured muscle fibers and trauma result in shortened and tightened fascia, causing pain and tension. Myofascial release causes the fascia to relax and unwind for soothing pain relief.
Proprioceptive neuromuscular stretching is a sports massage technique used to increase range of motion, thus improving motor performance and rehabilitation.
Reflexology involves applying thumb pressure to reflex points on the feet that correspond to parts of the body, resulting in relaxation, balancing and healing. It can also be performed on the hands and ears. Available as a full 1-hour treatment blended with Reiki or as a 30-minute add-on to any treatment.
Trigger Point Therapy
This technique can be incorporated into any massage to relieve the sore knots that refer pain to other parts of the body. Finger pressure around and on these knots, starting slowly until the knot "invites you in", is used to relax them.

Making the Impossible, Possible.
Wrightstown Health and Fitness Chiropractic's mission is to make healthcare fun for the residents of Wrightstown, Newtown, and the surrounding areas of Bucks County.
We all know what it takes to be healthy (eating the right foods, exercising, and managing stress). However, the tough part is actually doing these things. In this fast-paced, technologically-driven, sedentary society, health is often overlooked until there is a problem.
Statistically, America has more doctors, nurses, medicine, surgeries, the best technology and the highest healthcare expenditure worldwide.
However, it ranks among the lowest in health statistics compared to the rest of the world. The mentality that true health comes from a miracle pill or some "life-changing" gimmick is why our health care system is failing.
In reality, true health comes from within.
It's having an awareness of making the right decisions and having accountability for those actions. Wrightstown Health and Fitness chiropractors take both of these responsibilities very seriously in their practice. Working together with the medical community, their mission is to provide a structured, innovative, modern-day approach to help patients improve their overall quality of life without adding anything unnaturally to the body or subtracting anything unnecessarily from the body.
Quality Chiropractic Care
Sickness, disease, and dysfunction of the human body can be attributed to 3 primary causes: physical stress, chemical stress, and emotional stress.
In other words, our physical activities, diet and mindset greatly affect how we perform, feel and function.
At any given time we can be overwhelmed or lacking in one, if not all, of the three aforementioned categories.
A symptom, like pain, is a signal of when the body has become overwhelmed by one of these stressors. Physical stress can cause pain, but so can chemical and/or emotional stress by its inflammatory effects on the body. This is a fact most people do not take into account when dealing with symptoms. Addressing the cause of the problem rather than just the symptom has been a great foundation to build on and has served as a more effective plan when helping Dr. Pat's patients. This form of chiropractic care is simply a safe, effective, and natural solution for allowing the body to heal without reliance on medication or surgery.
Our chiropractors employ a variety of techniques including Graston instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization;
Kinesio Taping to encourage the natural healing process and support and stabilize joints and muscles; E-Stim (electrical stimulation) to contract muscles and aid in healing and pain relief and decompression therapy to stretch the spine with an inversion table.
We work closely with WHF's highly competent Licensed Massage Therapists as we know that relaxed muscles result in more effective and more lasting adjustments.
Both teams of practitioners have extensive experience in treating conditions such as lower back pain, tight hips, sciatica, neck pain and nerve pain and we find this synergistic approach to be twice as effective. Many personal training clients also benefit from our adjustments in the form of improved performance in their workouts.
