Venom Sports girls has teams for kids 2nd thru high school age.
www.venomsportsgirls.com has a 3/4th team, 5/6th team, 7/8th and a jv high school team to enroll your child in
55 Reasons to enroll or not enroll your child in Venom Sports
1-Im the longest running trainer in the Quad cities/.Iowa city area 2-i am the only current pro basketball player training players in eastern iowa 3-i have played and coached at almost every level possible, so i know what is needed for your child to succeed. 4-i am certified by a few different basketball entities- wba, isha, bca, 5-if your child can beat coach earl in 3 pointers and free throws your 1st session is completely free.
My child is already good enough., so why train ?
Chances are your child is good for their age group, but for a child to be a college scholarship player, varsity player they have to be the best in their area or one of the best in the state or nation. If your child is not, chances are they could use the training. Also think back to your childhood. Was the best player the best player in 3rd grade, 8th grade and then as a senior. Chances no, as some kids passed them in skill, work ethic, height , weight or atheletic ability. Skills can negate all those factors you cant alter. to be the best dribbler, shooter, passer ect all can be taught and mastered.
It costs too much to get personal training.
Coach Earl's rates ar the lowest in the area, when trainers most range from $25-$50 per hour. Coach Earl chargest the lowest so you as a parent can bring the child back more frequently. He has children of his own and understands how important it is to keep sports fees at a reasonable rate so family budgets stay on track.
Venom Sports/Venom Media can help you record a high quality DVD highlight for your child
Part of the training process is to be able to see improvements and able to track and archive them in a media format everyone can see. Venom Sports/Venom Media can help put your child thru high level drills that AAU coaches, college coaches and scouts want to see. That video can be used and sent all over the country. Each year multiple kids get scholarships offered to them because of a video sent to them. the key is to have an expert put your child thru the drills the coaches want to see. it makes no sense to see your chiild execute rec league drills at the high school and junior high age.
The child doesn't have time for extra training due to other sports
Most parents think team practice is enough, when in fact team practice is what it is, designed for teams to go over offense and defense schemes and plays. Also the child might play other sports so, the child often forgets their muscle memory of basketball they have learned over the season. that leads to starting back to square 1, and back to 0 the following season. it is imperative a child keeps what they have learned skill wise after the season by out side training
Coach Earl will alter my child's existing foundation, when my child is having success playing.
Coach Earl won't alter it if your child is shooting 50% to 60% field goals and 80% to 90% free throws. If your child is not in that category, then there is a lot of room for improvement. Most parents think their child is shooting or learning skills correctly because they are already having success or playing against lower level kids. Most parents mistake low level competition with success.
Coach Earl is connected.
Imagine all the college, high school, AAU/Traveling Team, pro, semi-pro and overseas coaches Coach Earl knows. All the leagues he's played in and coached. Coach Earl can help your child get to the next level, wherever that might lead.
About Coach Earl's Program
We at venom sports can help your child train and improve, we have teams thru venom sports girls or boys that your child can play on. If your already on a team and want excellent tourneys to play in year around venom sports hosts 4 tourneys per year. If your a player or parent who wants help in the recruiting process with dvd highlights , venom media can produce and manufacture multiple dvds and help you distribute them to the right channels
Has your child ever been trained by an NBA player?
The answer is most likely no, but now here is your chance! Welcome and Thank you for enrolling your child in the Venom Sports personal basketball training/skills program, ran by Acie Earl. Your child will be involved in the most complete hands-on, instructional, and fundamental basketball program ever offered in the Iowa City area. Your child will learn every session from one of the best players and basketball minds in the area, and ever to play at The University of Iowa.
In the past you may have, and most likely will continue to register your child in numerous sports programs, leagues, camps, and clinics.
These activities are great and essential for a child to learn and to play in a team concept, learn winning/losing, and how to gain sports coaching concepts and experience. Many times your child is taught by high school and college age volunteers who are just there earning a weekly check or gaining volunteer hours for their major. They are not stressing the skills needed to have your child excel. As a parent of 2 daughters and 1 son who play at a high level on the travel team circuit,.I can remember many times when parents and I would literally cringe in the stands at the coaching and guidance that these so called coaches were giving my child and the other kids. The direct result is the child is pushed through the system with little or no fundamental training and arrives in Jr. high, high school, and AAU type-national tournaments underdeveloped. Unless your child can run and jump like Michael Jordan, Lebron James ect, your child's early fundamentals are a key. I'm sure as parents you all remember players like Larry Bird, Bill Walton, Patrick Ewing and Rick Barry; players who were not given supreme physical attributes. These players worked hard to master the fundamentals to make themselves better and eventually became some of the best players ever to play the game. So when your child arrives at the high level such as high school, AAU teams such as Team Iowa, Kingdom Hoops, Barnstomers, Pump an /run, Legacy ,etc. traveling teams. The coach has two options. 1 is to work with the child extra and spend his time teaching or re-teaching and charge you for extra skill time. or 2, cut the child and/or limit their playing time. Usually the coach has no training to re-teach the child what they need in order to play for the upcoming year. Often these coaches are more suited to run the programs and team concepts out of a book or emulated from other successful college and high school programs. As I look back to my childhood, documentaries and books, the great players were taught the fundamentals by a specific coach or parent who put in the time and had the knowledge of the game as the AAU travel team circuit had not taken off yet. Open gyms, team camps, summer leagues and camps were stressed for young players. There, players learned how to play and think the game from very successful coaches who knew the game in and out, not young volunteers who just know how to sub and run an offense and defense . So in my sum up, is your child ready to join these elite programs skill wise.?

Why play on venom sports girls and boys teams ?
1, Coach Earl has had Venom Sports teams at the youth level for over 7 years. He knows what it takes for our teams and players to be successful. He takes it on him self to attend and run each practice. He coaches each game and tourney, and league game. he does not leave parents or low level helpers to coach teams unless he has a random conflict. 2, he wants each kid to play varsity early and get kids scholarships. all our teams are built and ran for this purpose eventhough early in your child's playing days it might not seem like it. 3- Venom sports girls and boys teams fill a need
What do I do if I am a low income parent and cant afford the fees for my child to play on Venom teams ? Is there a scholarship available ?

The tourneys are optional and younger teams such as the 3/4th play in the Cedar Rapids area more and the older teams travel around the state more. We typically have all of our teams play in the same tourney each day so Coach Earl can coach and monitor each player.
AAU state and AAU nationals could cost more and would be discussed among parent reps and the parents of the players going.
We pride ourselves to play in tournaments in the state of Iowa & adjacent states to judge our players versus the teams and grades out there not in our area.
The girls are expected to attend practice, as required by any travel/club team in any sports.
Out of town players nornally attend as many practices as they can but more when leagues and tourneys are coming up.

Phenom Iowa boys tryout info
Venom Sports Boys is a new basketball program started in 2011 by Head Coach/Program Director Acie Earl.
Coach Earl has ran Venom Sports Girls since 2007 and with the constant question by many parents was?' when are you going to do the boys teams'. The answer is now and in the present. Venom Sports Boys has teams from 3-12th grade and play in local leagues, tourneys as well as national events. Venom Sports Boys will have highly competitive teams as well as developmental and beginner teams for every skill level. The main goal of Venom Sports Boys is to give parents and kids the opportunity to play on traveling teams in the Iowa City/Eastern Iowa area without having to travel out of their immediate area for practices and games. Kids from all over Eastern Iowa and the surrounding districts in any area are welcome to play.
Coach Earl started to Venom Sports Boys to be a highly competitive boys traveling team in Eastern Iowa and be an alternative to other programs in the area.
With that being said, it is expected of your son, and you as parents to be willing to do all and everything possible to ensure your son's success. We expect a high practice and game attendance and expect for you both to be on time most days. This is not a recreational-participation program where you drop your son off and expect him to play as much as the rest of the kids. The schedules sometimes vary and sometimes change on the fly. Coach Earl teaches complex offensive and defensive schemes and each child is expected to learn them as best as they can on a high level like other teams we compete against. Your son will be pushed and maybe yelled at maybe more then he has in the past. Coach Earl calls it tough love as he wants all his players and teams to be the best they can be. Venom Sports Boys is an accountable program, meaning that each play positive or negative is being accounted for to help the team win. We are sometimes not like other sport programs where kids do what they want and its not mentioned in the game or at practices. Coach Earl plays no favorites in regards to parents and or players when it comes to practices or games. Parent Coaching help is at a minimum to ensure each player is judged and played fairly at practice and at games. Coach Earl makes all decisions on players placed on teams, starting 5?s and substitution patterns unless he's not there to coach. Even when he's not there to coach, he still has input with the other coaches on those things regarding the team. Venom Sports Boys teams are not elite but 1 day we hope to be, but we practice and play like we should be elite.
F.A.Q.- Frequently Asked Questions
Are Venom tryouts actually going to cut any players?
NO - on Coach Earls girls teams he's never cut a kid due to lack of skill. VSB will just form B an C teams to place kids on teams for their level.
Does my family get a discount if I have multiple siblings in venom on the boys and or girls side?
Yes. A family only pays the administration entry fee 1 time regardless if you have 2 boys or a boy and girl playing for venom. Meaning your family only pays 1 time to join Venom Sports Girls or boys teams; not each season.
Can my son play on VSB teams and his school or another traveling team?
What days will be team practices and skills practices be held?
Sunday evening will be team practices at 4.30-5.30pm at Grantwood Elementary in Iowa City . Wednesday evening skills sessions will be held 5.30-7pm.
Do all fees need to be paid before my son can play for VSB?
No, VSB is the entity and Coach Earl or others does not make money off the program. So if you don't pay on time then you just screw the program. Some parents pay at once some parents break it up monthly.
If I don't make all the practices or tourneys is my child penalized?
No- it is what you as a family and your son put into it. If you don't play in many tourneys or league games or come to practice you run the risk of other players taking your sons spot.
What if my son is a multi sport kid, can he still play for VSB?
Of course your son can play multi sports as most kids do. VSB tries to not schedule our games and or practices during other sports. We just ask your communicate with us so we know whats going with your child's other sports. VSB understands at a young age some kids still don't have a dominant sport yet and trying all sports.
Are VSB teams year around?
yes we are year around as we don't stop practicing.
If im a mom and my feet hurt cant i get a foot message?
yes just let coach earl and he will use his hands of steel and vaseline on your hard sore feet.
Fee's for Venom Sports Boys
Fee's are subject to change at any time as Coach Earl at Venom Sports Boys play in different leagues and tourneys each year. We don't have a set number of practices, games or tourneys we play in each season so it varies from year to year and grade to grade. Coach Earl believes that the fees to play youth basketball should be minimal as when Coach Earl played youth basketball as a kid. He believes too many non-basketball people are making money off of kids and families in a rebounding/ rough economy where each dollar counts. Coach Earl does not take money from the programs on the boys and girls side and re-invests any profits or yearly budget surplus back into the program for practices, equipment and extra training modules. FEES-please note some grades do or don't pay some fees below. Some fees are for a SEASON.
Administration fee to join per family
this is a 1 time fee each family pays. If you have a daughter on the girls side then if your son joins then then you don't pay again . Or vice-versa. Even for families for multi-siblings, only the family pays that fee 1 time. This fee covers your child's share and costs the program has, such as mailings, office expenses, fliers, copies, advertisement ect.
Covers practice sessions for the year Aug1- Aug 1 the following year.
It is only paid one time per season- this fee covers your child's 1 time per week skills session on WED nights. It also covers our team practices. Its a 1 time fee for the whole season where the kids will be instructed to perform shooting, dribbling and ball handing drills to improve their individual game on Wed. On Sundays is team practices where we teach our offensive and defensive sets. You will be charged this fee regardless if you don't attend or do 1 or the other . We try to make the day of the week work scheduling wise for each kid but with our teams playing league and other siblings maybe playing Tues or Fri high school games its tough.
Jersey fee, this is a yearly rental fee for each kid as they will get a game jersey and shorts and practice jersey when they join.
After the season you will be asked to return it. If everything is returned then in good shape then a $25 refund will be returned to you.
This is a one time fee Each kid will not be required to pay for . The pack is optional and includes sweat pants, sweat shirt, T shirt, shoes, and backpack, ans socks all to be worn and used during practices, league and tourney games and national events-hotels etc. Please make sure the sizes you order for your child is such that he can wear for a long time in youth small, med, or large or adult small, med, or large, ex ect. Our advice is to maybe order a size up to account for growth spurts and washing shrinkage. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery as most orders will be shipped with other player orders all at one time to save us shipping costs from LA.
Depending on which team your child will be placed on, the team might play Salvation Army league in Cedar Rapids, or North Dodge league in Iowa City or maybe just do weekend.
tourneys. The league costs are an estimate on last years cost of league play. Some teams will play more then 1 league per season due to needing more playing time and development and some don't play at all as league play is not enough competion for them. Before the season Coach Earl will have a conversation with all the parents involved with each team to discuss the options and goals of each team in league play or not. Venom Sports Boys will enter a variety of weekend tourneys thru the season. Each kid has the option to play in a weekend and or 1 day tourney for the price of$20, per kid per tourney. Regardless if a kid plays 1 game or all the games, the fee is still $20 per tourney. The fee is charged after the kid plays in the tourney so each family can choose if they want to play in the tourney or not. If their isn't enough players to go, then younger players might be asked to play in the tourney, or Coach Earl might cancel the team going due to not enough kids to play . Coach Earl tries to schedule about 2 tourneys a month from Oct-March with each Venom team. Coach Earl also tries to attend tourneys that we can take as many Venom teams as we can, boys and girls etc. Some summer tourney's will be added to the schedule depending on level of interest from the parents and kids. Meaning parents have a choice of the teams want to compete at a high level or not. In the past wev'e had some teams compete at very high AAU national college exposure tourneys out of state. In the past we have also had some teams not good enough to compete in league or local tourneys. Again the parents choose what level our teams want to compete at, play up, travel local, or travel out of state.
