Yoga
Yoga is a mind-body practice designed to improve overall health, strength, flexibility, and mental clarity in people of all ages and fitness levels. Yoga classes at Now and Zen are a safe and friendly way to learn and practice yoga.
Mixed Level Yoga
This class is good for advanced beginners to advanced students who have an open mind when coming to class. There will be modifications for advanced beginners and enhancements for advanced students. This class will have a flow element to it so students who need a gentle class because of wrists, knees or health issues should avoid this class.
Beginning Yoga
Our beginner class starts with basic yoga poses with explanations of their benefits and proper modifications. As the session progresses we add a flow to the class so that by end of the session students are ready for a level 1 or mixed level class. The level of difficulty increases, however the option for the more modified version is always encouraged.
Flow Yoga
In this class we integrate strong fluid movements with energizing breath work to build your yoga practice. As we flow from one posture to another we build heat in the body helping to energize and renew our minds, bodies and spirits. Although this class is not suited for beginners, it is a perfect class for all other levels.
Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga concentrates on gentle stretching, hip openings and breath. The primary focus of gentle yoga is to bring balance to the body with gentle and relaxing postures. This class concentrates on joining the breath with each movement in a gentle and guiding manner. This is perfect for seniors, beginners, those recovering from an injury or surgery, or those with health issues. Chairs are available if needed.
Indoor Standup Paddle Yoga
The Indo Yoga Board simulates the unstable yoga that has been popularized by Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Yoga, which is yoga performed in a body of water on a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) board. The Indo Yoga Board is designed to take yoga to the next level by adding instability making students have to work harder to stay balanced. This class will help to develop strength, balance, focus and stamina. Don't want to use a board? You can join us and have a regular practice on the mat! Think of it as a Slow Flow Yoga.
Pilates
This class focuses on the core postural muscles to stabilize body while improving the quality of the movement. This form of exercise concentrates on correct posture, breathing, flexibility, toning and strengthening.
Pilates Plus
Pilates Plus is an energetic upbeat intermediate class. It is not appropriate for beginners but if you have taken pilates previously it is a perfect class for you! Enhancing the basic pilates moves while moving to music will be the focus of this class. This is not your typical pilates class.
Prenatal/postnatal Yoga
This class not only offers postures, breathing exercises, and meditation for expecting and new moms, but includes time to share with other new moms and moms-to-be.
Slow Flow
This class is perfect for beginners and those with an established practice. This easy moving class will build strength and flexibility in a gentle, yet invigorating way. It is a little more rigorous than a gentle class so it may not be appropriate for those with wrist or knee issues.
Sunrise Yoga
This class is a perfect way to start the day. We start with gentle stretches to wake up the body. Depending on the needs of the students we will either keep it slow and gentle or move into a little more flow as the class evolves. Greet the sunrise with yoga!
Svastha Yoga
Svastha literally means "To stay as yourself” and refers to a state of complete health and balance, in body and mind. In this class we will have a short discussion at the beginning of class, followed with asanas (poses), pranayama (breath) and meditation. This class is appropriate for all levels of students. It has a different flavor than other classes taught at Now and Zen, with less emphasis on the physical poses.
Therapeutic Yoga
This is an extremely gentle class. We show the poses using a chair, props (blocks, bolsters etc) and modifications without props. We move at a slow pace and design the class specifically for the needs of the students in the class. This is a perfect class for people dealing with MS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, injury, oncology and seniors.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga poses gently stretch and rehabilitate the connective tissues around our joints. In order to get to the fascia (connective tissue) and ligaments we hold the poses for 3-5 minutes while relaxing the muscles. Yin yoga is challenging mentally and physically for those who tend to gravitate to a more active style of yoga. It is a nice way to compliment running, biking, tennis, pilates and active yoga practices. This class is perfect for beginners to advanced students.
Yoga for Cancer Patients and Survivors
We developed this class knowing that patients living with various treatments have times when they feel good and times when they do not. This class is designed specifically for the needs of those in each class. The class includes extremely gentle poses, breath work to calm the body and mind, and some guided meditation. We will allow time for students to chat as well. We encourage survivors, care givers and family members as well.
Yoga for Flexibility
We focus on stretching the hamstrings, thighs, hips and psoas muscles. We work on opening the chest and front body to create more space for breath. We incorporate poses to increase strength in the upper back and abdominals. This is a great class for beginners, advanced students, and athletes who are looking for a class with a little less of a flow sequence and a little more stretch. Everyone is welcome!
Class Levels
Students are encouraged to practice at their own pace and always let instructors know if you need modifications.

About Now & Zen Yoga Studio
Owner and Yoga Instructor Deb Marweg
Deb opened Now and Zen Yoga Studio in 2004. She is a E-RYT500 teacher with Yoga Alliance, which means she has completed the requirements to be registered as an Experienced Registered Teacher with 500 hours or more of training. This is the highest certification that you can hold with Yoga Alliance. Now and Zen is a registered yoga school with Yoga Alliance. Deb’s classes are a mixed style, using the philosophy of BKS Iyengar by offering modifications using props (chairs, blocks, bolsters, etc.) to make sure students have proper alignment in their poses to not only be safe but to experience the full benefit of yoga. She also teaches with the intent of Svastha, making sure that each student is working within their ability even if it means expressing the pose differently or even finding a different pose to get the same benefit. Her mixed level and level 2/3 classes are enhanced by incorporating Vinyasa flow to classes as well.
Her gentle and therapeutic yoga classes do not have the vinyasa flow element and we stay away from poses that put pressure on the joints of the wrists and knees.
Deb feels that yoga can be for every body, and enjoys teaching specialty classes to meet the needs of those who traditional classes are not beneficial.
Deb resides in Woodbridge, CA and she is happily married to Bill Marweg and they have two grown children.
We pride ourselves on making yoga and pilates accessible to everyone. We offer a wide range of classes from therapeutic to advanced.
