Villa Marie marries the perfect wine climate of Illinois with the fabulous grapes of the world to create new Illinois wines for the 21st Century while still embodying tradition. Villa Marie is a story of a family, a love, and a land. John Drost married Mary Grizio and created a romance and a legacy.
Their daughter founded Villa Marie to honor the cherished memory of Mary; whose love and guiding hand instilled a respect for hard work, dedication, and perseverance. John Drost, a local boy, was a successful semi-pro baseball player, who came home to marry a local girl and serve 13 years as the Mayor of Maryville until his death. They would be extremely proud to see the Grizio - Drost family's heritage enshrined in the gorgeous Villa Marie vineyard, winery and banquet complex.
Whether you are looking for an elegant location for a wedding ceremony and reception or a relaxing night out with music and wine, Villa Marie Winery and Banquet Center can provide just that! Piasa Winery was started in 1992 and is the 12th winery to be licensed within the state of Illinois. In 2007, Piasa Winery was sold to Judy Wiemann who also owns Villa Marie Winery. All of the grapes come from Jersey, Macoupin, and Madison counties. The winemaker, Linda F. Unnerstall, will continue the mission of producing premium wine made from the finest Illinois grown grapes
