Champagne is passion. On one hand it is a beverage that seamlessly represents celebration for many, and on the other is one of the most meticulously handled wine products on Earth. At Michel Gonet, the care goes from vineyard to cellar, from hand harvest to extended lees aging. The result is a Champagne of the highest quality and finesse. The family created this new cuvée separate from their plots in Mesnil to showcase these special terroirs

Sommelier Selection
A. Bergère, "Millésime", Brut, 2015
$251.00
There is no wine region in the world that expresses its terroir as wonderfully as Champagne. Adrien Bergère, the third generation of Bergères to make wine under the family name, has set his focus on elevating the Vallée du Petit Morin to the top of Champagne's growing regions. He immediately began to experiment when he took over in 2014–vinifying all the parcels separately to better understand the diversity of the plots, giving way to a parcel-based line of Champagnes. He introduced small amounts of barrels to analyze his wines in different vinification styles and see what best expressed the terroir. The Vallée du Petit Morin runs along a hilly fault line, which Adrien feels offers a rich fruitiness yet a particular, inherent freshness: a balance of all parts to find harmony

Nicolas Millet, "Grand Champs", 2023
$116.00
Nicolas Millet is a 9th-generation winemaker managing family land with history dating back to the 1700s. While honoring that heritage, he has pushed the estate forward by shifting entirely to biodynamic and regenerative agriculture. This bottling reflects his meticulous approach, capturing the pure, unadulterated minerality of their ancient Jurassic period limestone soils.

Sommelier Selection
Riesling et al., Marcel Deiss, "Engelgarten", 2020
$126.00
In a region as old as Alsace, where winemaking dates back to the second century, innovation is usually uncommon and even frowned upon. However, innovation is what makes the wines of Marcel Deiss so exciting (and what makes the man himself so controversial). Instrumental in changing Alsatian labeling laws to allow for blends, he believes more in showcasing the unique qualities of vineyards planted with multiple grapes over the individuality of a single grape. This field blend (of Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and other Alsatian varietals) from the sparse, gravelly soils of Engelgarten is a must for any white wine lover looking for something new

Jean Dauvissat, 2023
$116.00
Although unrelated to "The" Dauvissat, Fabien Dauvissat stands out as one of the most exciting family-run producers in Chablis today. After taking over the domaine from his father in 2009, he immediately transitioned the vineyards to organic farming. Now fully certified, he has gone even further, introducing biodynamic practices across much of the family's holdings. This meticulous vineyard work is evident in the wines at every level, including his Village bottling, which draws from several of the family's left-bank parcels

Domaine Raveneau
François Raveneau's wines gained a cult following decades ago, with wine lovers around the world jumping at the chance to get their hands on anything available. The Domaine has barely grown in size since the initial purchase of a handful of small vineyards within the best Premier and Grand Cru land right after establishment in 1948. Still farmed by François' sons and granddaughter, these small plots combined only equal about eight city blocks and exist on land more coveted than Fifth Avenue

Meursault, Bachey-Legros, "Grands Charrons", 2022
$258.00
Crafted by a six-generation family estate famous for its deeply rooted old vines, this Meursault embodies centuries of Burgundy winemaking heritage. Delivering premier-tier concentration and elegance at a village-level price point, it offers exceptional value for classic white Burgundy enthusiasts.
Forged from a winemaking legacy dating back to 1793, Pierre Morey rebuilt his family's divided inheritance through long term sharecropping partnerships and a transformative 20-year tenure directing Domaine Leflaive. Today, Pierre and his daughter Anne reign over their own fully biodynamic estate and thriving négociant business, turning repeated historic setbacks into Burgundian triumph.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
No winery is more famous or produces such legendary wines in Burgundy than Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The domaine has been co-owned by two families, the de Villaine's and the Roch's/ Leroy's, since 1942. Aubert de Villaine, a humble, charming, and highly intelligent vigneron, who is acutely conscious of the history of the domaine and the responsibility he bears towards it, has been the manager and face of the domaine since 1991, when Lalou Bize-Leroy left to focus on her own domaine. Often abbreviated as DRC, the winery makes some of the most exclusive wines in the world, and 98% of their vineyard holdings are in Grand Cru vineyards, including their 2 "monopoles", La Tâche and Romanée-Conti. DRC's wines, for those lucky enough to have tried them, are regarded as the pinnacle of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

From mushrooms down to the microorganisms growing on the roots of the vines, his extreme care comes through his wines via layered minerality, electric citrus, and a unique savoriness that only Austria's finest Grüners can achieve

Girolamo Russo, "Nerina", Etna, 2023
$111.00
Etna is unlike many other wine producing regions in the world. Most notably the home of Europe's highest active volcano, Mt. Etna, one would not consider this to be an ideal place to grow grapes—dangerously steep, rocky soils, unpredictable weather, and the threat of volcanic eruption at any point. Very few are up for the challenge of making wine under such extreme circumstances. The work of these daring vintners combined with the region's indigenous white varietals result in wines like "Nerina:" energetic fruit and fresh minerality with an elegant structure— making Etna Bianco the next big thing for Burgundy lovers

This small, family-run winery located in California's Central Coast is quickly becoming renowned for their fresh, Old World-inspired wines, and this Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. Grand Cru Burgundy may be the most profoundly titled wine of them all. Sacrificing none of the delicacies or nuances while also featuring depth and concentration, the classification is understandably hard to live up to. This unique site receives a more significant downdraft of air, which keeps the vines cooler and yields a wine of exceptional elegance and balance. These wines perform best when allowed to purely represent the vineyard with little to no bells or whistles

Château de Sales, Pomerol, 2016
$167.00
Not only is Château de Sales the largest estate in Pomerol, but it has also—astoundingly—been operated by the same family since 1464. Their 2016 vintage beautifully captures the exceptional quality of that legendary growing season, delivering a blend of rich fruit and refined structure. By purposefully using minimal new oak, the family allows the pure fruit and iron-rich soils of this historic property to take center stage.

Hailing from the sandy, cool northern reaches of the appellation where few dared to plant, this charming cuvée from younger vines offers a fresh departure from the region's typical stony soils. Crafted by a remarkably kind and talented female winemaker, the wine balances delicate Provençal herbs with juicy red fruit that remains elegant rather than over-the-top

Buondonno, Casavecchia alla Piazza, 2022
$84.00
Since 1988, agriculture professors Gabriele Buondonno and Valeria Sodano have organically farmed their high-elevation estate, a ruggedly beautiful property once owned by Michelangelo. The land's cool climate and north-facing vineyards produce Sangiovese with remarkable vibrancy, supported by a pastoral ecosystem of forests and grazing goats. Through long macerations and patient aging in neutral oak, their Chianti Classico achieves a masterful balance of rustic energy and elegant precision

Franco Molino, 2018
$111.00
Piedmont's mosaic of terroirs reveals itself in Franco Molino's Barolo Riserva, a blend of select crus from Barolo, La Morra, and Castiglione Falletto. Clay soils in Barolo and La Morra lend floral aromatics and supple fruit, while Castiglione's limestone and sandstone add structure and depth. Produced only in outstanding vintages and aged over five years before release, this Riserva captures the harmony and complexity that define great Barolo—where every bottle marks both time and place with quiet distinction

Ever since, her career has been on an explosive upward trajectory that has most recently seen her included in the Decanter Hall of Fame 2024. Her wines are known for being expressive and transparent, making this one of the best examples of what happens when you allow Malbec to express the unique terroir of the Uco Valley, the most prestigious subregion of Mendoza

Keplinger, "Vermillion", California, 2022
$88.00
Didn't catch Helen Keplinger on the cover of Wine Spectator a few years ago? No matter. You'll join her legion of followers after your first taste of this red. Helen is one of the superstar winemakers in Napa Valley, with a resumé that reads like a who's who of California. (Grace Family, Bryant Family, Carte Blanche, Kenzo Estate, Arrow & Branch, Kerr Cellars, Paradigm, & Fiddlehead Cellars) The brainchild of her & her husband, DJ Warner, Vermillion is an offshoot of their label Keplinger Wines. The quality of wine is based on the quality of all its inputs: good vineyards, smart farming, & pure winemaking. They make this wine from the vineyards to the bottle, working closely with grape growers from awesome little vineyard sites in Napa Valley, Sonoma County, & the Sierra Foothills

Pierre Péters, "Cuvée Reserve", Blanc de Blancs, Brut, NV
$374.00
Camille Péters, around 1919, was one of the first growers of the Champagne region to decide to bottle wine under his own name. In 1932, at the ripe age of 12, Pierre Péters, the eldest son of Camille, began to attend his first exhibitions alone and develop sales for his father's brand, and never looked back. He took over operations in 1944, and released his first vintage in 1946 under the "Pierre Péters" brand. The estate, now run by Rodolphe Péters, owns just over 19 hectares of sustainably farmed vineyards, all of which are primarily located in the Côte des Blancs, where the soils are chalky and Chardonnay is king. Their flagship wine, the "Cuvée de Réserve", is made entirely Grand Cru Chardonnay grapes.

Hailing from the same province as the famous Japanese woodblock art, "The Great Wave of Kanagawa", toji Tetsuro Igarashi brews refined and refreshing sake from this seaside region of Japan. Crafted from the "king" of sake rice, Yamada Nishiki, and supported by the rich underground water of the Tanzawa Mountains, this Junmai Ginjo has no added alcohol–just pure flavor from the starch at the center of these intensely polished rice grains. The delicate flavors and round texture are a great pairing with a variety of dishes, a perfect introduction to high-quality Japanese sake

Tokaji: a dessert wine so nuanced and impressive that Catherine the Great set up a garrison in the town of Tokaji to protect its delivery. There is wine...and then there is Château d'Yquem. In anticipation of the World's Fair in Paris, it was the only estate named in the top level "Premier Cru Supérieur" by Napoleon III in the Graves Classification of 1855. It has demanded some of the highest prices in the wine world for well over 200 years. Thomas Jefferson supposedly ordered 250 bottles of the 1784 vintage for himself alone, and additional for his good friend George Washington. There isn't any "lesser vintage" wine from this estate; if it's not perfect, no Sauternes is produced that year. The 1811 "Comet Vintage" is still storied, having been rated "the ultimate '100 points'" by Robert Parker while tasting it in 1996. Widely considered the "definitive" dessert wine, these are wines that will surely outlive us all

Co-founders of the winery, Janet & John Trefethen are central figures in the rise of Napa Valley and American fine wine. John was the founding President of the Napa Valley Grapegrowers and later took over the reins at Napa Valley Vintners, where he was President during a critical, transitional time. Among many successes, one of their proudest moments was the surprise victory in 1979 when Trefethen Chardonnay was declared "The Best Chardonnay in the World" in Paris, bringing the world's attention to their efforts and to the wider Napa Valley.
