The Famous Nobby Door was created in 1972 by Chris Thompson as a birthday present to Tony Kassapakis who owned Nobby Tavern until 1979. It was meant to be constant reminder that the name of the tavern was "Nobby" and not "Nobby’s" as it was usually referred to it as. The door is often a subject in the pub’s monthly Nobby News when fictitious characters Robert Roberts III and his wife Lulu from Walla Walla complain about it to city’s Redundancy Department.
