Events
We understand there is no standard event. Additionally, when it comes to events throughout the metro area, the background and stage can mean they are held at a corporate location, a hotel meeting room or in Washington, DC anywhere from Capitol Hill, the National Press Club, or the middle of the National Mall. We come to you and work with your creative teams and stakeholders to capture your events in a way that you can then promote and share. These types of events require years of experience to know how to work within the security concerns of the Administration. We have been cleared hundreds of times by the Secret Service to work these types of events, and we take these matters seriously and understand how they work.

Cabinet Officials
When working with Cabinet Officials, they are often the highest ranking government official in the country working specifically on your issues, so having a photographer on hand who has worked with many dozens of them is key. Knowing what the restrictions are and facilitating the important shots that illustrate they are at your event, or meeting with your leadership, is key. Over the past 25 years, we have produced hundreds of memorable magazine covers. Editorial Photography
We understand the importance of asking how many pictures do you need to publish because that was how we worked within the photography department when we started over 20 years ago. We know how to plan for a lead with a half-page horizontal image or set up a triptych of three images of an interview subject gesturing. Our experience and attention to detail makes a difference in delivering exceptional images that meet and exceed your needs.

Commercial Photography
Commercial photography, while similar to advertising photography, serves a different purpose. The images may be for an internal corporate audience or staged to raise awareness of a subject or illustrate a point. We supply the same high quality production used for major advertising shoots to our commercial projects. We work with art directors and other stakeholders and can work on our own to deliver exceptional imagery.

Single Camera, two lights, single audio source
This is our most basic set up and does not include any image editing. Raw files will be delivered to you via FTP. Please specify all capture and deliverable formats.

Editing Services

Press Conferences
Press conference coverage ranges between $750-$1250 depending on length of the event, timely payment, and additional services.
Short Events (under 3 hours)
Short events call for general coverage without special set ups. Fees include being available to produce the images during the event and post-production work to create an online gallery of images. Prices range from $750-$1,000.
Full Day Event (up to 8 hours)
A full day event, such as a conference or symposium, with an early morning start time between 8 am 9 am and concludes by 5 pm is priced between $1500-$2000.
Extended Day event (Up to 12 hours)
Extended day events beginning at 9 am and concluding with a reception or dinner around 9 pm generate a larger number of images that require additional post-event production work. Extended day rates rage $2000-$2500.
Portraits
Our portraits are all produced on location at times most convenient to your schedule. Set-up fees begin at $750. We recommend scheduling multiple subjects at the same time and location to maximize the baseline costs. Each additional portrait incurs an additional charge. Image retouching is included in the price. Subjects are asked to review and approve their images immediately after they are taken. We deliver finished images ready for either press or online distribution. Hair and make up services are available for an additional charge.
"Are John's rates high?"
Well, they really aren't. John maintains an industry standard using several respected resources to determine pricing for assignments and stock photography. John understands that every shoot is different and requires preparation, scouting, and post production. Please contact us for an estimate specific to your needs.
Info
Mis-nomer
Images from stock should cost less than an image which was assigned to be created. In reality, an existing image licensing fee isn't worth less than an assignment. You can select the exact image that you want. You don't incur production expenses. There is no risk that the shot won't be exactly what you want. There is no art direction, and you can have it immediately.
Please understand, however, that the fees on the following pages are not quotes.
They are presented to aid you in formulating budgets, and to know whether the image(s) we would provide you with fit within the ballpark of what you expected to pay for them. Once we receive the details about exactly how you would use the image, if rights are purchased, we will deliver a quote which will encompass the fees and paperwork which needs to be completed.
Factors which affect the fees for usage are
How long will the image be used or displayed
How big will the image be as a part of the space in which it is published
How many pieces are printed (i.E. Press run or circulation)
How much it cost us to create the image initially, and
Whether the audience which will see the image(s) is of a local, national, or global viewership
For EACH type of use, the following information is necessary
We wish to maximize your use of the images, and, to that end, we urge you to consider the variety of uses you might have for the image beyond the immediate need. By purchasing the right to use the image in a brochure AND an Annual Report at the same time, you can save because you are licensing the rights to the images for multiple uses. If, after a use has been requested, different uses arise, the fees will not be as low as a package would have been initially. When considering the variety of uses, and when gathering the information necessary for us to provide you with an exact quote, please consider and include:
How long the image will be used or displayed (one issue daily, monthly, one-time, six months, 18 months, etc)
How large the image will be as a part of the space in which it is published (i.e. 1/4 pg, 1/2 pg, dimensions, etc)
How many pieces (i.e. press run or circluation)
Intended Audience and range of distribution (i.e. local, national, international)
Type of use: Editorial, Advertising, Corporate, or Personal, etc. Print-only, Electronic-only, or both.
If on-line, is it on the main page, further into the site, or on a link to your site from an ad on someone else's site
Potential uses by you down the line
Whether you would like an embargo on the potential use of the image by your company's competition.

Magazine Reprints
Common Mis-nomer: Reprints from editorial magazines are not the same as editorial photography. While the original use of the images was editorial in nature, the reprints are used as a marketing and promotional tool by companies, and as such, are priced between the fees for straight advertising and straight editorial. This type of usage could be referred to as “advertorial.” While you, as the client, may have been contacted by the publication in which the article appeared, or you may have made the initial contact, permission to use the photographs which appear in the article can only be granted by the photographer, who is the copyright holder. Magazines cannot grant anyone the right to reproduce an article in which photographs I have taken appear, without my expressed written consent. These prices flucuate depending on the original circulation of the magazine, and other factors. * Many reprints are requested in 10,000 block quantities. The figures above are for 10,000 reprints. Reprints with a quantity greater than 10,000 but less than 20,000 have an additional fee of 25% of the above figures. Reprints greater than 20,000 but less than 50,000 have an additional fee of 50% of the above figures.
