Hoppe's Garden Bistro and Wine Shop is conveniently located on scenic Highway One between Cambria and Morro Bay, in the 'last real beach town' of Cayucos, California.Spanish explorers named Cayucos from an Indian word for their unique canoes. Captain Cass, an English immigrant, founded the town of Cayucos in 1875 and established Cass' Landing. The long pier received steamers from up and down the coast delivering lumber and other supplies, then picking up diary products for the San Francisco area. The Pedraita family bought their site from Captain Cass in 1876, the main building with the dining room was built on site. The two wings were moved from other parts of town and created the original kitchen and four of the twelve rooms of the old Cottage Hotel. Famous for her wonderful, "reasonable" dinners, Mrs. Pedraita and her staff played host to the Hearst family (long before there was a castle), Padereski played the piano in the dining room and Madame Shumanheinke came to sing.
