Chiropractic
History
The word Chiropractic is a combination of two Greek words: cheiros means hand, and prakikos means practice. This combination is frequently interpreted to mean "done by hand." "The roots of chiropractic care can be traced all the way back to the beginning of recorded time. Writings from China and Greece written in 2700 B.C. and 1500 B.C. mention spinal manipulation and the maneuvering of the lower extremities to ease low back pain. Hippocrates, the Greek physician, who lived from 460 to 357 B.C., also published texts detailing the importance of chiropractic care."
Why Affinity?

Auto Injuries
Announcement: New Florida PIP law changes require you to be checked within 14 days of your accident or you forfeit all of your medical benefits.
What You Should Know if You Have Been Involved in an Auto Accident
Did you know that one of the most stressful aspects of living in modern life is dealing with the problems that arise after an auto accident? Were you also aware that some auto accident injuries are hidden and are seldom detected for months or even years? As a result, two things can occur when an injury is not taken care of properly, or the accident victims settle their case with the insurance companies before getting evaluated from a Doctor trained in soft tissue injuries. Why? Because once you settle your case, you lose the right to have your insurance company pay for treatment if you need it. A good rule of thumb is to be informed of your rights and then make a decision. It is our position that if you were indeed injured, you should get the care you need to get you back to the way you felt and functioned just before the accident. It is not the responsibility of the insurance company to pay for anything more than that. They are not responsible for pre-existing injuries; only the injuries sustained from the accident. Even if you are just sore, you should get checked out immediately because you may experience pain, numbness, headaches, muscle stiffness, fatigue, and other problems including arthritis many months down the road.
Not only are auto accidents an inconvenience and a hassle
a common redundant complaint of auto accident victims is that they don't feel like their normal selves. You may also be experiencing obvious pains and symptoms like muscle stiffness or spasm, neck pain, headaches, numbness and tingling, back pain, difficulty sleeping, irritability, memory loss, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and many other difficulties. Or worse than that, you may be injured and feel nothing at all. Either way, did you know that auto accidents can cause post-traumatic osteoarthritis? Osteoarthritis can ruin your posture (giving you a slumped or hump back appearance). Osteoarthritis can cause the discs in your spine to degenerate and create scar tissue formation leading to chronic stiffness and the inability to move properly. If your M.D. has given you pills, you must understand that pills do not correct structural or soft tissue damage. There are special therapies designed for that, and we offer these modalities at our office.
Does Your Care Hurt?
Absolutely not. The care is very gentle and quite soothing. Most patients can hardly wait to get their care.
Is The Care Safe?
Yes, extremely. Particularly when compared to the side effects from medication. We urge you to go to the patient testimonial tab to get a feel for what you can expect.
The 5 Most Common Questions After an Accident
Who is going to fix my car?
What will I drive in the mean time?
Will my insurance rates go up?
Who is going to pay for it?
And the last thing on a person's mind is: "Am I Really O.K.?"

Recovery & Care
" If I would've had those injuries handled correctly and I didn't go back onto the field with some of the problems that I had, I may have had a completely different outcome." Dr. Brent Baldasare
Personal injury
Personal injury is such an important topic for Dr. Brent Baldasare because it's really how he was introduced to Chiropractic. When he was just 19 he first started getting injuries that required care.
Now I am very happy with the life that I've gotten
but personal injury is one of those things that that you need to be going to a specialist for treatment. Personal injury is not really dealt with by your primary medical doctor. Your orthopedic surgeon (and we deal with a lot of orthopedic surgeons) they don't want to see you unless you're really a surgical candidate. Your physiatrist they do a really good job managing the pain, but personal injury from my perspective, what we see is there is a functional problem, and if you don't get to the root cause of the problem, then you can actually get stuck on pain killers for the rest of your life. I could've easily been one of those people.
I was fortunate enough to realize sooner than later that was the path.
But what I do see happening with people they get to a fork in the road. And when they're injured, and they're hurting, and they stop working out, and they start to realize their mood changes because they're in a lot of pain. Or they get confused because there are so many things that they have to deal with, the insurance companies, and the attorneys.
What happens is that either a professional intervenes or that light bulb goes off
and they're like, you know what enough is enough, I'm going to take control of this, yes I'm injured, yes it hurts, yes I have a herniated disk, yes surgery is a possibility, but what can I do? What is everything I can do to prevent that from happening?
Affinity Health client Kristen
Affinity Health client Kristen was involved in a three car pile-up accident.
Kristen; personal injury patient
Probably close to 70 in a 45, and she hit the gentleman behind me, who hit me. They pulled up the x-rays and showed me you know, exactly what was going on. Ends up I have three sprains in my neck from whiplash. So therapy is definitely going to be beneficial for my health. You don't really know what could happen a few or days later. And when it comes to insurance you only get 14 days.
Dr. Brent Baldasare
Not only do they come back in and we get them where they need to be, out of pain and functioning again. But they're usually better off than where they were before the accident. If every single person that we see at Affinity, the main goal is to take them from where they are and put them in a better position than where they were before we saw them. And that ultimately is the culture of the practice.
Affinity Health clients Moe and Jackie
Affinity Health clients Moe and Jackie were involved in a car wreck.
Jackie
As soon as we got here he took our x-rays and when we got those back, we came back the next day. And he told me that I had a sprained neck and him as well. He just said that we're going to start adjusting you. We're going to do traction. It's just going to ease out your pain and tension and you'll be okay, until we find out what's wrong with your back, we can work deeper into that.
Dr. Brent Baldasare
And that's why personal injury is so important. Because personal injury even though it's a low point in most people's lives and most people don't forget the accident they've been in.
There's a moment of opportunity
that happens within two weeks of the accident, where people can really see that I have an opportunity here to be better than I was before.
Or even if it it's going to be a permanent injury.
There's this opportunity when you're going through the treatment, strong treatment programs with experts who've been through this.
Where you can go through this process where its okay my life might change but it doesn't have to be bad.
If you've been in a car accident call us today to evaluate your condition.
Early diagnosis and treatment is critical for a speedy recovery.
Car Accident Advice For UCF Students
After an accident on Alafaya Trail driving home from a UCF event, Kimberly a sophomore at the University of Central Florida (UCF), was hit from behind at a stop light. She shared with us how she found a silver lining from her terrifying ordeal. "I was in so much pain for so long I wasn't sure if I was ever going to get better. My attorney helped me win my case and I was able to pay off my tuition with the money. I'm not saying get into an accident to pay for college but if you're injured and it's not your fault you might as well make lemonade out of lemons." Her attorney was one of Orlando's top personal injury lawyers and here's his best recommendations. We can email you his info if you need his advice.
Have a Settlement Amount in Mind
In putting together your settlement demand letter, you figured out a range of what you believe your claim is worth. Before you speak to an adjuster about your demand, decide on a minimum settlement figure within that range that you would accept. This figure is for your own information, not some¬thing you would reveal to the adjuster. But once the figures and discussions start going back and forth, it helps if you already have your bottom line in mind. That way, you don't have to make a snap decision if an adjuster makes you a take-it-or-leave-it offer on the phone. You will know whether it meets your minimum level or not. However, you do not have to cling to the figure you originally set for yourself. If an adjuster points out some facts you had not considered but which clearly make your claim weaker, you may have to lower your minimum figure somewhat. And if the adjuster starts with a low settlement offer or a number at or near your minimum -- or if you discover evidence that makes your claim stronger -- you may want to revise your minimum upward.
Do Not Jump at a First Offer
It is standard practice for insurance adjusters to begin negotiations by first offering a very low settlement amount or, sometimes, denying liability altogether. With this tactic, the adjuster is trying to find out whether you understand what your claim is worth and to see if you are so impatient to get some money that you will take any amount. When a first offer is made, your response should depend on whether it is a reasonable offer but too low or whether it is so low that it is just a tactic to see if you know what you are doing. If the offer is reasonable, you can immediately make a counteroffer that is a little bit lower than your demand letter amount. That shows the adjuster that you, too, are being reasonable and are willing to com¬promise. A little more bargaining should quickly get you to a final settlement amount you both think is fair. In these negotiations, don't bother to go over all the facts again. Just emphasize the strongest points in your favor -- for example, that the insured was completely at fault.
Get the Adjuster to Justify a Low Offer
If in your first conversation, the adjuster makes an offer so low that it is obviously just a negotiating tactic to see if you know what your claim is really worth, do not immediately lower the amount you put in your demand letter. Instead, ask the adjuster to give you the specific reasons why the offer is so low. Make notes of the conversation. Then write a brief letter responding to each of the factors the adjuster has mentioned. Depending on the strength of any of the adjuster's reasons, you can lower your demand slightly, but before lowering your demand very far, wait to see whether the adjuster will budge after receiving your reply letter. The next time you speak with the adjuster, begin by asking for a response to your reply letter. The adjuster should now make you a reasonable offer upon which you will be able to bargain and arrive at a fair final settlement figure.
Emphasize Emotional Points in Your Favor
During negotiations, mention any emotional points supporting your claim. If, for example, you have sent the adjuster a particularly strong photo of a smashed car or a severe-looking injury, refer to it. If there was a bottle of beer found in the other party's car, refer again to the possibility of alcohol use. If similar accidents had occurred in a similar way at that location, remind the adjuster. If your injury interfered with your ability to care for your child, mention that your child suffered as a result. Even though there is no way to put a dollar value on these factors, they can be very powerful in getting an insurance company to settle an accident claim.
Wait for a Response
Do not reduce your demand more than once until you have a new offer from the adjuster. Never reduce your demand twice without an intervening increased offer from the adjuster; it's simply not good bargaining. If the adjuster comes up with more reasons for a low offer, go over each one. Once you have dealt with all the adjuster's arguments, you will either get a reasonable offer, or you will have found out that no reasonable offer is coming and you will have to try to put some additional pressure on the insurance company.
Put the Settlement in Writing
When you and the adjuster finally agree on a number, immediately confirm the agreement in a letter to the adjuster. The letter can be short and sweet.
Get checked by an Expert
Before making any decisions about your personal injury case on your own, first make sure you have been evaluated by an expert physician trained in personal injury care. Cases that involve insurance carriers need a higher level of documentation and objective assessment.
Know When To Engage an Attorney
If at some point you feel negotiations are not going as you'd hoped, you may consider talking to a lawyer. An attorney should be consulted when any of the following are true:
You are demanding compensation for serious injuries and pain and suffering beyond a few thousand dollars.
An insurance adjuster is unlikely to take an unrepresented claimant seriously -- and offer a fair settlement -- when the damages are in the tens of thousands of dollars or more.
You are seeking future damages
If you are claiming for future damages -- lost future income or costs of medical treatment you'll need later -- you may want an attorney to work that into a settlement effectively.
There is a question of fault
If there is some question of the validity of your claim of fault, you may need an attorney to properly craft your argument.
Family Car Accident Advice From Top Lawyer
Carlos was involved in an accident on Woodbury Road, just behind Waterford Lakes Town Center. His injury kept him out of work for more than a month. His biggest concern was how was he going to pay his bills if he couldn't work. " I wasn't sure how I was going to pay my mortgage and bills. There was nothing left and I couldn't work. I had to depend on my settlement to cover my living expenses and my doctor to get me healthy again." His attorney was one of Orlando's top personal injury lawyers and here's his advice.

Metabolic Balance - The Metabolic Balance Plan
The Metabolic Balance Plan
The Metabolic Balance Plan is designed for people who have been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome or have symptoms that are very similar. Metabolic Syndrome is considered a medical condition and for that it requires the expertise of one of our certified physicians.
Our physicians are certified and trained
to handle even the toughest cases. The Metabolic Balance Plan is medically proven to be the most effective treatment available for metabolic syndrome compared to any other treatment currently offered in the world.
Metabolic Problems
A lot of people "get stuck" in their weight because of metabolic problems. There are three main causes. Patients and clients who have Metabolic Syndrome have a combination of possibly all three scenarios. Depending which pathways are working or not working is determined by a blood test.
Certain metabolic pathways are not open
Certain metabolic pathways are having traffic jams
Certain metabolic pathways are permanently closed
Metabolic Syndrome Testing
Metabolic Syndrome Testing
Metabolic Syndrome testing is recommended for anyone with a combination of any two of these factors - Waist Circumference, HDL Cholestrol.
The most telling symptom is a large waist circumference
Men's waist sizes that are close to or greater than 40 inches are at the highest risk. Women's waist sizes that are close to or greater than 35 inches are at the highest risk.
The most common question we get asked is, "Do I need to be diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome to do this plan?"
The simple answer is no. This plan is recommended by physicians as far away as Germany for us to specifically treat Metabolic Syndrome patients. Like we said above, this is the most successful treatment for Metabolic Syndrome in the world. And we are one of only a limited number of physicians certified to deliver this program. That being said, this program has been shown to be highly effective as a permanent weight loss solution to thousands of people world wide. Even for those who are not clinically diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome.

The findings of this test will produce a score to help you identify any health risk(s). It's also a tool to track your progress and confirm your weight loss plan is helping you lose fat, and not muscle.
The Bio Metrix Ultrasound Body Composition Device is used.

HyperVibe Therapy
Is a state of the art system we've added to help improve your personal injury and rehab therapy. The HyperVibe machine is from NASA born technology and it's finally here for you to experience.
Whole Body Vibration
Whole Body Vibration is a unique way of increasing your exposure to gravity. The upward movement of the platform causes the body to accelerate upwards. Imagine the example of standing in an elevator. If the elevator was to move downwards at high speed it would make you feel light, almost like floating. If however it suddenly slowed to a stop and immediately moved upwards with rapidly increasing speed it would feel like your body just became a lot heavier and you would have to push down with your legs to keep yourself upright. Whole Body Vibration creates an effect similar to the elevator moving upwards, it's as if your body just became heavier. You feel this acceleration as a force on your body, a force called G-force which is adding to the force of gravity pulling you toward the Earth.
G-force
G-force is the most important factor when it comes to stimulating the body to improve with Whole Body Vibration. If you want maximum results with minimum time and effort your aim should be to use the highest G-forces you feel comfortable with.
A Hypervibe Machine
A Hypervibe machine is one of very few machines with the right combination of power and features needed to generate these effects on your body in a significant way. The key to Whole Body Vibration effectiveness is G-force. A review of the research literature indicates that insufficient G-force is the #1 reason for disappointing outcomes in many if not most cases.
What Can Vibration Exercise Do For You?
With a suitable machine and correct technique Whole Body Vibration can stimulate the body in a variety of unique and beneficial ways not possible with other forms of exercise. Research confirms that there are a number of direct effects:
Hyper-contraction of muscles
Simultaneous neuro-stimulation of multiple reflexes
Increase muscle and joint mobilization rapidly
Naturally generate heat to joint and muscles
Reproduce resistance training with less risk of injury
Break up injured scar tissue
Increase metabolism
Vasodilate the vascular system
Increase lymphatic circulation
Increase body tone
The Basics - Riding A Wave Of Energy
When you stand or place other parts of your body on Hypervibe's moving platform
the repetitive upward movement of the platform sends pulses of kinetic energy up through your body. You control the strength of these energy waves using the machine's control panel.
As each wave moves up
through your body some of the energy is absorbed by the tissues of your body and is converted to heat. Muscles and joints feel and operate better when they are warm. Whole Body Vibration has been proven to create a warming effect in muscles and joints faster and easier than other types of exercise.
The upwards movement of the platform also causes movement in the joints of your body
which has a mobilising effect and causes the muscles and tissues surrounding the joints to stretch and vibrate.
Muscle Reflexes
Your brain is constantly monitoring the position of your joints
and will increase muscle activation in an attempt to stabilise your posture when there is a risk of you becoming unbalanced.
Further, if the stretching and vibration of tissues is sufficient
microscopic sensors inside your body detect these changes and quickly activate reflexes that cause the muscles to contract, keeping joints and soft tissues protected from excessive movement. The strength of muscle contraction depends on the strength of the energy pulse coming up from the platform and the health of your nerves and muscles.
Warmed Up and Ready
Warmed Up and Ready
Repetitive pulses of sufficient energy cause rhythmic muscles contractions. In a short time, the cumulative effect of exercising warms and mobilises the joints and muscles as well as the increased circulation caused by muscle pumping, leaves you with a pleasant feeling, makes movement easier and prepares the body for working optimally.

Where conventional exercise has failed
researchers at the European Space Agency have successfully used Whole Body Vibration to completely prevent the degeneration in bone and muscle during prolonged weightlessness by using Whole Body Vibration.
At this point it becomes important to distinguish between Vibration Training machines and Vibration Massage machines.
In the European Space Agency experiments the most successful outcomes came from using a G-force of 15G3. Reducing that to 10G resulted in partial success. Reducing to 5G or less reduced the effectiveness by 70-100% ie. if muscle, bone and body conditioning are your goals, using low G-force is ineffective for all but the most frail and deconditioned individuals.
This becomes important information
to be aware of before starting a vibration therapy program as most vibration machines are not capable of producing high G-forces and are really only suitable as massage machines.
