Class Descriptions
Yoga Wall
Based on BKS Iyengar's principals of alignment, the yoga wall is used as a prop to deepen asana by opening and creating spaces in the body using therapeutic techniques. You will learn how the body aligns in postures with added support and gain a deeper awareness of how the body should feel while staying safe and avoiding misalignment. Also great for restoring spine health.
Vinyasa
Vinyasa literally translated from Sandskrit means to place in a special way or connection. It is also referred to as flow. In essence you begin to connect the breath and the movement with such ease it becomes a dance of meditation. As your body moves, the mind becomes still and the synchronized breathing helps to release any blockage of energy. This allows for a lot of variety and is open to all levels.
Restorative
This is a gentle yoga that stretches and helps release tension and fatigue stored in the muscles and restore energy and balance to the body. Relax in a supported restorative pose with a guided breathing technique called pranayama, to regain steadiness and bring clarity to the mind. Open to everyone who wants to feel great!
HOT 60
A 60 rehabilitating series of 26 postures performed in a precise order in a room that is heated to 95- 105 degrees. This class helps to strengthen, stretch, reshape, balance and heal the body and mind. Open to all levels. Please review the Hot guidelines prior to attending class.
Meditation
This practice of concentrated focus upon a sound, object, visualization, the breath, movement or attention itself in order to increase awareness of the present moment, reduce stress, promote relaxation, and enhance personal and spiritual growth. This practice can help elevate mood, therefore experiencing more appreciation and enjoyment in life and relationships. Decrease depression and anxiety, cultivate emotional stability and acceptance of things that are beyond our control.
Mat Pilates
Focus on strengthening the muscles of the hips, back abdominals and gluts (otherwise known as the powerhouse). These movements require stabilization of the torso and focused effort while maintaining proper breath work. This method was developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) for the purpose of rehabilitation. You will notice improvement in flexibility, strength and body awareness.
Gentle Yoga
This class presents an introduction to basic yoga poses and is designed to create breath awareness, enhance balance and increase flexibility. This is a great class for beginners or for students with physical limitations as well as the student that feels like honoring their body with gentle, soft movement.
Mindful Yoga Therapy
This class integrates asana, foundational precepts of yoga, and principles of recovery; it's a practice designed for anyone and everyone interested in being freed up from the constraints of addiction, whatever the substance. In this meditative method, aligning awareness with breath and movement, we build strength, flexibility, and focus to powerfully move beyond the limitations of conditioned mind and body, allowing space for healing, restoration, and peace. Vinyasa meets recoverycome as you are!
Yoga Nidra
Yoga nidra or "yogi sleep" is a sleep-like state which yogis report to experience during their meditations. Yoga nidra, lucid sleeping is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. Lucid dreaming is the Western practice derived from yoga nidra.
TaiChi/QiGong
Tai chi is a Chinese exercise system that uses slow, smooth body movements to achieve a state of relaxation of both body and mind. As a system of physical exercise used to improve and maintain health, tai chi can be helpful in achieving a state of physical and mental relaxation while also strengthening the cardiovascular and immune systems.
