A dining landmark, Wintzell's Oyster House was founded in 1938 as a six-stool oyster bar by J. Oliver Wintzell and is best known for its "oysters—fried, stewed or nude." Don't like 'em raw? Try a dozen chargrilled!
While oysters headline the iconic brand, Wintzell's menu comprises fresh Gulf seafood dishes such as bacon wrapped shrimp and redfish bienville as well as regional favorites, including award-winning seafood gumbo, homemade bread pudding and two specialties native to Mobile: West Indies salad and fried crab claws.
Wintzell's is designated by national and regional publications as a "must experience" destination for both locals and tourists alike. The walls of all Wintzell's restaurants are covered with thousands of Oliver's homespun sayings, offering a lively, casual and unmistakably southern atmosphere.
