Crossfit is a results driven, proven strength and conditioning program. At West Metro CrossFit our dedicated trainers want to lead our clients to become stronger, leaner, faster, and more coordinated and at the same time alleviate all those pesky aches and pains developed throughout life. . We believe that everyone is an athlete and that life is a sport. Whether you are training for your upcoming season or to carry all the groceries up in one trip our program is designed to improve and conquer human movement. We mix gymnastics (body control), weightlifting (control of external objects), and cardiovascular training in as many ways as possible.
What to expect
We start each class off by working through the proper movement patterns for each exercise to be performed that day, often with a PVC pipe or just your own body moving through space. I know it seems obvious to say that form is our foundation but unfortunately that is not the case with every trainer. Using proper form not only increases your efficiency but also relieves pain in the back and other joints. Within your first few visits to West Metro CrossFit you will be moving better and feeling stronger. Even those that feel competent in the gym often have body imbalances and movement deficiencies that will be exploited, corrected, and made into strengths.
The workouts are constantly varied, challenging, and never boring.
Each workout can be scaled to any fitness level. Workouts are scaled in load and intensity but not kind. All fitness levels from college athletes to grandmothers can participate together. We welcome anyone who is willing to focus and put in the work.
CrossFit Santa Cruz
"CrossFit is not your ordinary workout. But it is for ordinary people looking for dramatic results."
Olympic Weightlifting/Powerlifting
Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic Weightlifting is a strength sport in which athletes are given 3 attempts in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk to acheive their highest combined total.
Powerlifting
Powerlifting is also a strength sport that resembles Olympic Weightlifting in format but the lifts are the Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift.
Athletes looking to train specifically for the stength sports work either one-on-one with their coach or in small groups apart from the CrossFit classes.
Training includes mastering the technique of the lifts through skill work and strength from related lifts.
At West Metro CrossFit we teach each lift backwards (from the finish position back to the start).
We have found this to be an effective strategy in learning the lifts. Once basic competency of the movement has been achieved athletes move to a formal training program designed to increase raw strength, power output, and technique.
Posture, Mobility, & Rehabilitation
Often times, and by often I mean nearly everybody, people come to us with less than ideal posture/mobility. We also see many clients in need of a little rehab.
Posture
When it comes to poor posture for most people, it's a simple case of muscle imbalances that need to be corrected. These muscle imbalances are usually acquired through sedentary jobs (aka sitting all day) or poor movement patterns that have been repeated for years. Our Corrective Exercise Specialist, Soloman, can help design a program specific to your needs and your posture. We begin by inhibiting and lengthening the shortened, overactive muscle and activating the lengthened, under-active muscle to regain proper length tension relationships in the muscle and work towards synergistic, integrated motion where all the muscles work together as they are designed.
Mobility
Almost daily our coaches have to tell athletes to get lower in their squats or get their arms higher or more overhead, and the response from the athlete is almost always the same I can't. To that we say, "you can't...yet." When an athlete lacks a desired range of motion in an exercise, it is typically for one or more of the following 3 reasons: lack of flexibility, lack of strength, or laziness. The simple answer is to stretch what's tight, strengthen what's weak, and don't be lazy! Like I said that's the simple answer. The reality is that most often athletes aren't lazy but they don't know what is tight, what is weak, and further how to fix those things. Our mobility expert, once again Soloman, can help you with that. If the need or desire is there for an athlete to work on mobility outside of the group classes, we can assess your mobility needs and design a mobility program to fit those needs.
Rehab
For those athletes that come to us with a history of chronic pain or injury, we design a comprehensive rehab program to get that athlete back to health. Not only do we work to regain normal range of motion, rebuild basic strength, and reduce/eliminate pain, we work towards leading these athletes to new levels of fitness they never believed possible. Our goal isn't to just get you to walk or run again, it's to get you to set a new record on your 5k. It's not just to get you to squat again, it's to get you lifting weights like your knees never hurt and to do it pain free.
Personal Training
Some people prefer a one-on-one training environment, and for them we are glad to accommodate.
Our personal training is designed, as it should be, to meet the personal needs of the client.
Whether you have specific needs that require the extra attention or you just prefer the one-on-one time, this is a great option for you. Personal training sessions are one hour in length and vary in composition depending on the clients needs and desires. In a one-on-one environment, our coaches are comfortable working with any disabilities or limitations you may have.
Personal Training ranges between $55-$75/hr depending on which trainer you are working with and which package you choose.
