Vintage 2013, Riesling, Wachau, Austria, Tegernseerhof. The Mittelbach family's Tegernseerhof, located in Unterloiben, just below Dürnstein, boasts a tradition dating back to the year 1002. The original facilities were built in 1176 by the Benedictine community of the Tegernsee Abbey. For centuries, the abbey was where the Bavarian monastery produced its wine. At the turn of the 19th century, it was acquired by the Austrian Empire and later, it went into private ownership. Franz Mittelbach and his wife, Mathilde, are the fifth generation of Tegernseerhof owners. Since the 1970s, they have been continuously running the Tegernseerhof as a family business. Today, Martin Mittelbach, the son of Franz and Mathilde, is the current part of this history. The Tegernseerhof vineyards flourish on stone terraces whose verdant soil plays host to a rich variety of indigenous fauna. Among the best-known, excellent locations and wines are Bergdistel, Hoehereck and Loibenberg (for Grüner Veltliner) as well as Loibenberg, Steinertal and Kellerberg (for Riesling). Our Estate is a member of the exclusive association "Vinea Wachau", therefore the vinification follows the strict regulations of the "Codex Wachau".

Terra Sanctus 2010 Priorat 'Clos La Rae'
The folks at Valkyrie Selections call this wine "Terra Sanctus" meaning "sacred earth." The name refers to the deep religious history of Porrera, which is dotted with hermitages on its mountain hillsides, and to the fact that the vineyards are so precarious and dangerous to work. It is a blend of 60% Carignan, 30% Grenache and 10% Syrah with an average vine age of 50 years and was aged for 16 months in large and medium size French oak barrels. The nose is very Spanish with aromas of earthy mushroom, brambly, woody blackberry, white pepper, dried herbs and saddle leather. The medium to full-bodied palate has a nice weight and concentration without feeling heavy and offers tasty meaty, gamey notes, black plum, more dried herbs and spice. The wine finishes with that telltale graphite, slatey minerality, putting it firmly in the Old World and specifically in Priorat.
