Can I Still Have a Specific Area Treated During the Massage?
Yes! Our Therapists will work to treat any problem areas that you request.
Frequently Asked Questions - Are there any Contra-Indications to the Sauna?
Yes. Please refrain from the use of this sauna if you identify with one or more of the following categories. Please consult your physician prior to use. Do NOT use if pregnant, have serious inflammation, fever, communicable disease, acute bleeding or intoxicated.
Medications
Diuretics, barbiturates and beta-blockers may impair the body's natural heat loss mechanisms. Anticholinergics such as amitriptyline may inhibit sweating and can predispose individuals to heat rash or to a lesser extent, heat stroke. Some over-the-counter drugs, such as antihistamines, may also cause the body to be more prone to heat stroke. Individuals who are using prescription drugs should seek the advice of their physician or a pharmacist for possible changes in the drug's effect when the body is exposed to infrared waves or elevated body temperature.
Elderly
The ability to maintain core body temperature decreases with age. This is primarily due to circulatory conditions and decreased sweat gland function. The body must be able to activate its natural cooling processes in order to maintain core body temperature.
Cardiovascular Conditions
Individuals with cardiovascular conditions or problems such as hyper/hypo tension, congestive heart failure, impaired coronary circulation or those taking medications which might affect blood pressure should exercise caution when exposed to prolonged heat.
Alcohol
It is not advisable to 'sweat out' a hangover. Alcohol intoxication decreases a person's judgment; therefore, he/she may not realize when the body has a negative reaction to high heat. Alcohol also increases the heart rate, which may be further increased by heat stress.
Chronic Conditions / Diseases
Muliple Sclerosis, Central Nervous System Tumors and Diabetes with Neuropathy are conditions that are associated with impaired sweating. Consult your physician before participating in infrared sauna therapy.
Craniosacral Massage
CranioSacral Massage
CranioSacral therapy is a gentle, light touch technique working the craniosacral system, which is the soft tissue and fluid that protect the brain and spinal cord. CranioSacral therapy releases restrictions to allow the entire body to relax and self-correct, freeing the central nervous system to perform its best, eliminating pain and stress, strengthening ones resistance to disease, while enhancing health and well-being. This therapy can be used to treat ADD, headaches, chronic ear infections, pain, and can also be used for general relaxation and health maintenance.
Craniosacral Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
Are there conditions that I should not receive CranioSacral?
Yes, these conditions include conditions where an increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability. Acute aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage, or other preexisting severe bleeding disorders. Please consult your physican before recieving CranioSacral massgae.
Will CranioSacral hurt?
No, this is a very light technique. The holds and positions use very light pressure and is not invasive at all.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue uses slow strokes, deep pressure, and trigger point techniques, to work deeply into muscle fibers. Generally, with a deep tissue massage, your massage therapist is working to release tight, dense muscles that may be littered with trigger points. A good way to describe what a trigger point is, is that it is a knot in your muscle fiber (could be any muscle) that has the ability to refer pain to other areas of your body, generally along nerve pathways. When you overuse a muscle, it becomes continually contracted and doesn't know how to stop contracting, therefore producing a trigger point in the muscle fiber. Your massage therapist will communicate with your muscle fibers through massage, to help release trigger points so the muscle can stop over firing and release the tension around the knot. When the trigger point is released, you will feel your pain lessen, have increased range of motion, and have more energy.
Deep Tissue Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
What type of results can I expect with a Deep Tissue massage?
Each person responds differently to massage, but after your deep tissue massage you may very well experience more range of motion, less pain and less tension in areas where you were experiencing it previously. For some people, it may take a couple of sessions to completely rid of the pain they are experiencing, for some it dissipates after one session.
Will I be instructed on a treatment plan?
Yes, after your first appointment, your massage therapist will know what type of treatment plan would work well for you and recommend that for you. Your massage therapist may recommend you to come back in a week, two weeks or a month. It all depends on how you respond to the treatment.
Can you show me stretches and exercises to compliment my massage?
The therapists at Tree of Life are all highly qualified and will recommend self-care tips for you to do at home to compliment your deep tissue massage. They may recommend stretching, icing, or exercise to continue the healing process. If you have any questions, or would like a stretch to be recommended to you, never hesitate to ask your massage therapist what they think would benefit you.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stones are used as a moist heat therapy. Our trained therapists use hot stones as tools to help relieve tension and restrictions from your muscles and fascia. The heat of the stones helps to get into the tissues more quickly, at a deeper level and help to relax the body at the same time. Your therapist will always make sure that the stones are at a heat level that is comfortable for you. Hot stone has benefits of helping with muscle tension, pain relief, improving circulation, and easing mental stress and anxiety.
Hot Stone Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
When should I NOT receive a Hot Stone Massage?
If you have a loss of sensation in any area of your body, it is not safe to have a hot stone massage as you cannot feel when the stones will be too hot for you. Also, you should avoid hot stone massage if have an acute skin condition, have a depressed immune system or have a dysfunction with your nervous system.
Will the stones burn me?
No! The stones should never be so hot that they burn you. Your massage therapist will only use the stones when they are at a safe heat level. If you feel like the stones may be too warm for your comfort, let your massage therapist know immediately.
How do the stones feel?
The stones are very smooth and flat rocks. At times, clients don't even feel the difference between the therapist's hands or the rocks. The stones are used as an extension or tool of the hand.
Lymph Drainage
Lymph Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a VERY gentle, slow, repetitive and rhythmic massage that mimics the action of your body's lymph system and helps to reduce swelling and pain. The Lymphatic System is a key part of your cardiovascular system; therefore, if you have certain heart conditions, it is not advisable to receive MLD treatment. It is critical that the heart and kidneys are functioning well enough to process the lymphatic return that is stimulated by the specialized massage. If your Lymphatic system itself (i.e. lymph node removal) is itself compromised, certain precautions need to be taken in the MLD treatment.

Lymph Drainage - Frequently Asked Questions
What is Lymph?
When we get hurt or have surgery the body sends needed protein-rich fluids to these sites to help us heal and to keep that area from moving, which acts as a self-imposed cast or brace. Once the swelling is in place the body moves on to other important things like breathing and pumping blood so, eliminating the swelling is down at the bottom of the list of things to fix. Eventual healing and movement will reduce the swelling over time. Lymph drainage massage will speed the healing process and reduce the swelling and pain associated with the affected area.
Is Lymph Drainage a deep massage?
No. Lymph Drainage is a very light massage that helps with improving the flow of the lymph system.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release
Traumas to our body, inflammatory conditions, and surgical procedures cause restrictions in our fascial tissue. What is fascia? Fascia is one continuous sheet of connective tissue that penetrates and interpenetrates every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. When there are restrictions in the fascial tissue, it causes you pain, headaches, adhesions, and lessened range of motion. Myofascial Release is a technique that involves applying sustained pressure into the connective tissue where there are restrictions; thus eliminating pain and restoring motion.
Myofascial Release - Frequently Asked Questions
How is Myofascial Release different then Deep Tissue massage?
In a Myofascial Release session, your therapist will not use any oil or lotions. The goal is to stretch and release fascial tissue and in order to get the best results, your hands should not glide over the tissue. Also, myofascial is a lot of stretching and pulling of tissue and not so much pressing into one certain area.
What is a 'restriction'?
Every trauma we experience affects the fascial layer and causes it to re-structure itself in response. Its job is to help us function at an optimal level, and as it works to do this, it will toughen up around traumas, places we have injured or tend to use repetitively. Scars are facial restrictions, and poor posture over time can create or cause restrictions throughout your body. There are many different causes for restrictions that may show in a variety of places.
Pregnancy Massage
Pre & Post-Natal Massage
Pre & Post-Natal Massage is a unique massage helping mothers-to-be and mothers to relieve tension and stress throughout their pregnancies, and afterwards as well. Contrary to some belief, massage is very safe during pregnancy and many women rave about the effects of massage during or after pregnancy. Throughout pregnancy, your center of gravity begins to change. This puts a lot of stress on the muscles in your back and abdomen. Also, as your uterus grows, the ligaments attaching to your pelvis stretch and become sore and painful. Your specially trained therapist will help to decrease muscle tension, ligament pain, and other pain and restrictions during your pregnancy. As your body changes throughout your pregnancy, each massage will be tailored to your specific needs. After you deliver you bundle of joy, your massage therapist can also help with any stress and tension you may be experiencing as a result of child birth and raising a child.
Pre & Post-Natal Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
Is massage safe during pregnancy?
Yes! Contrary to some belief, massage is safe during pregnancy. Your massage therapist will just have to use a lighter pressure and be aware of all of your comfort levels.
How can I lay down for a massage?
At Tree of Life, we have bolsters specific for our pregnant clients. This enables you to lay face down while still protecting your baby. We can also have our clients lye on their side and use pillows and bolsters for comfort.
Raindrop Technique
Raindrop Technique
Raindrop Technique® uses therapeutic-grade essential oils to restore balance to your body and release toxins. The technique uses gentle slow strokes by applying essential oils first on your feet and then on your back. It has a rich history and is based on traditional massage therapies including back massage, Vita Flex and heat application. The technique is designed to bring the body back into structural and electrical alignment. Often, many spinal problems and misalignments are caused by or exacerbated by toxins (such as viruses) that lie dormant within the spinal column. The use of essential oils helps to dispose of these toxins and viruses within the spine, helping its structure return to normal.

Marjoram
Marjoram is a key oil used in the Raindrop Technique and can be used in massage after exercise.
Reflexology Massage
Reflexology Massage
Reflexology is the study, science and art of applying specific techniques to either the hands or feet. It is believed in reflexology that the organs of your body are reflected onto your hands and feet. When applied, these techniques reduce the effects of stress in corresponding body parts, helping the body to heal itself. Thus through reflexology, pain, illness and dysfunction in any area of the body can be addressed. Reflexology is really helpful when an area either cannot be reached (ex. Organs) or is too inflamed or painful to touch. For example, if you recently experienced a trauma, and that area is really inflamed and painful, your massage therapist can work the area of the foot corresponding with that area of your body which is in pain and find relief. Another example is that if you have been experiencing digestive problems, your massage therapist can work your digestive system through the feet to provide you relief around those areas in your body.
Reflexology Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
Where on the body is Reflexology performed?
Reflexology is performed on the hands and feet.
Is there any contraindications of Reflexology?
Yes there are contraindications. You should not receive Reflexology if you have an infection on your feet, a contagious illness, Deep Vein Thrombosis, severe swelling of the feet, neuropathy, if you have a trauma in your feet, or if you have a high risk pregnancy.
Do I need to take my clothing off for this modality?
No, you only need to take off your socks and shoes.
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation Massage
Relaxation Massage is a massage used to relax you. This massage uses lighter, flowing strokes over the body. This increases blood flow and warms the skin. Relaxation massage is very relaxing and sometimes clients even fall asleep. You may have physical, physiological or emotional stresses in your life in which relaxation massage is very helpful in decreasing. During a relaxation massage, the goal is not to work on your 'knots' but to only ensure that you relax as much as possible.
Relaxation Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request work on a specific area during my Relaxation Massage?
Yes just tell your therapist you need attention on your specific area.
Neuromuscular Massage
Neuromuscular Massage
A neuromuscular massage targets the neurological system and the muscles related to it, addressing trigger points on the body that affect mood and neurological function.
What is the difference between deep tissue massage and neuromuscular massage?
Deep Tissue massage also does not require any additional training or Certification from basic massage therapy education. Neuromuscular Therapy is a highly specialized form of manual therapy that corrects pain and dysfunction by treating trigger points, muscle adhesions, and fascial (connective tissue) patterns.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is a technique that is used to help athletes in many different ways. Through stretching and deep tissue massage, this technique promotes flexibility and full functioning muscles to decrease the risk of injury, improve endurance, reduce post-workout recovery time and offer a more balanced training regimen. Whether you are a high school athlete, perform at a college level, are a weekend warrior or like to work out to stay fit, our massage therapists can help you and your muscles be in the best shape. They work to decrease trigger points (knots), increase range of motion and increase the function level of your muscles to give you the edge you need to be a better athlete.
Sports Massage - Frequently Asked Questions
How is Sports Massage different than a traditional massage?
Usually administered before or after exercise, sports massage therapy can help warm up muscles and aid in healing when an injury, stiffness or soreness is present. Sports massage is performed on athletes, and traditional massage is for everyone. Sports massage may perform stretching, while traditional massage generally will not.
I don't play a sport, can I still receive a sports massage?
Definitely! Even the "Office Athlete" has a lot of the same discomforts as the competitive athlete, as well as the person who experiences a lot of repetitive movements on a day-to-day basis. So if you're not a competitive athlete or don't have any past or current injuries, Sports Massage can help you feel like it's just easier to move without as much discomfort, often helping you feel that you have more range of motion.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy has been around for over 3000 years. It was first used with an animal horn to draw out toxins from snake bites and skin lesions. The techniques and the cups used back then have changed but the effect has remained the same for thousands of years. Cupping involves placing silicone or glass cups on the skin and using air pressure to create a suction effect. The skin will rise into the cups and blood is pulled to the surface of the skin this promotes increased blood circulation to the muscle and tissue, breaks up scar tissue, loosens facial restriction, brings oxygen to the cells as well as releases and drains excess fluids and toxins. The therapist may leave the cups in one spot for a few minutes or they may move them around the affected area that they are working on. Massage therapy is also used during this treatment to first warm up the muscles and then to help with the detoxing after the cupping.
Cupping Therapy - Frequently Asked Questions
Are the marks you get from cupping bruises?
It's a common misconception, however, the marks left by cupping are not bruises. Bruising is caused by impact trauma leading to breakage of capillaries and a rush of fluids to the damaged location from the tissue injury. There is no compression in cup therapy. The marks are the result of having internal unwanted toxins pulled up to the skin.
How long do the cupping marks last?
The marks can typically ranges from bright red to a darker purple, and can last from 3 days to a week. A darker coloring means that there is a high level of toxins and stagnation in the section of the body that has been treated. In this case, the marks can last for up to 3 weeks.
Ear Candling
Ear Candling
Ear Candling is the holistic way of relieving earaches, sinus issues, and other common issues related to the ear. It has been used since 2500 B.C., and is an ancient method used to help with the previous problems mentioned. An ear candle is beeswax or paraffin wax coated cloth that is shaped into a cylinder. We use the ear candle to place in the ear during treatment. While the candle is burning, our therapists will perform massage therapy techniques to help relax you. The massage techniques also encourage more relief around the sinuses and ears. We do not claim that ear candling cures conditions, only that it will help to bring balance and promote healing.
Ear Candling - Frequently Asked Questions
The candle is actually on fire?
Yes. In order to produce the smoke that soothes the villi inside of your ear, the candle needs to be lit. It is far enough away from your head that the candle will NOT burn you. As the candle starts to burn lower, your therapist will distinguish it in water.
Are there any contraindications for ear candling?
Yes. If you have had surgeries in or around your ears, ear candling is not recommended for you. Aviod this treatment if you have an untreated ear infection.
What is the substance that is in the ear candle when the treatment is done?
When the candle is removed, a discolored, often brown, waxy substance often appears in the candle stub. Some ear candling practitioners believe that this is earwax, bacteria, or other material extracted from the ear canal. However, research shows that ear candles do not suck substances out of the ear. There is no reliable evidence that ear candling can remove earwax or treat other conditions.
How often should I get ear candling?
Ear candling should only be performed at the most, every couple of months. We do not want to irritate the villi and ear structures by performing this technique too often.
Micro Point Stimulation
Micro Point Stimulation
MPS Therapy (Micro Point Stimulation) is a concentrated DC micro-impulses to key neurological points that reduce nervous system stress to relax muscles and relieve pain. Dolphin Neurostim is the world's first device specifically designed to reduce sympathetic stress for the reduction of soft tissue pain.
Micro Point Stimulation - Frequently Asked Questions
How does it really work?
Dolphin unit works by reducing stress (called sympathetic upregulation) to help relax tight muscles, ease nerve compression and fascia tension to relieve chronic pain.
Is it painful to experience?
Not very. However, some individual points may be tender or hyper sensitive, and treatment may resemble the strong, tingling sensation known as "De Chi" in acupuncture.
Is the Dolphin Neurostim as effective as traditional acupuncture?
Yes. Dolphin has been published to provide the same or better benefits as traditional acupuncture.
Common Conditions We Treat
Therapeutic massage can dramatically help reduce or eliminate many common health conditions. Our therapists listen carefully to your needs and proceed with the best treatment possible to help you. They can also incorporate aromatherapy and application of therapeutic grade essential oils during your session.
Arthritis
Arthritis is inflammation in one or more of your joints. The inflammation often causes joint stiffness and pain. Generally this condition worsens with age.
Bursitis
Throughout our bodies we have bursas to help cushion our joints. Bursitis happens when a bursa becomes inflamed, usually from a repetitive motion around the joint that is inflamed. A person with bursitis often experiences pain around joints such as the knees, hips or shoulders.
Carpel Tunnel
Carpel Tunnel affects the forearm and hand with hand tingling or numbness. The median nerve running down the arm gets pinched, therefore causing those symptoms. What causes the median nerve to be pinched? You could use your hand repetitively a certain way, you could have other health problems, or it could just be the anatomy of your bones causing the pinch on the median nerve.
Fibromyalgia
This is a disorder characterized by musculoskeletal pain. In order for the pain to be considered fibromyalgia, the pain must be wide spread throughout your body. People also endure fatigue, sleep memory and mood changes with fibromyalgia. Unfortunately there is no definite trigger as to why you may have fibromyalgia.
Headaches
The pain could be characterized a number of different ways and in many different places throughout a person's head. The pain may be sharp, or it could be an annoyance throughout the day. A headache can be short or long term. As you can see, there are many varieties. There are also a number of causes including stress, tight muscles, hormonal change, and so on.
Knee Pain
Knee pain is characterized by having pain in or around knee. There could be many different causes for the pain, including having tight quadriceps, having a torn ligament, referral pain, arthritis, and so on. Massage can definitely help treat the knee pain you may be experiencing.
Migraines
A migraine is a type of headache that is characterized by being much more severe in pain then a normal headache. A migraine can cause a throbbing and pulsing symptom in one area of your head. Migraines can be accompanied with nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound. Although the cause isn't for sure known, environmental factors can play a role. For example: If you have stress, this causes tension in the neck, which can cause a migraine, especially when your stress is highly elevated. Massage can help reduce some of the environmental factors and stress in your life, therefore reducing migraines.
Myofascial Pain Syndrome
This condition is characterized by chronic pain throughout your body, often in your muscles. With MPS, people will experience referred pain from triggers points in muscles throughout the body. MPS usually occurs after a muscle has been contracted repetitively. During a massage, your massage therapist can access the trigger points directly, release pain and tension.
Neck Pain
Neck pain is a very common problem in adults, affecting at least 10% of adults at any given time. Neck pain can vary from being one sided, to having it on both sides. It could be referring or very local pain, sharp or dull. Massage is a very effective tool to help any type of neck pain you may be experiencing.
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common reasons for experiencing heel pain. You have plantar fasciitis when the plantar fascia (a ligament that runs from your heel to your toes) gets inflamed and therefore becomes painful. The pain is usually stabbing and worse in the morning. Massage therapists can work to loosen the fascia on the bottom of your foot, and give you stretches and self-care tips to help with the pain.
Postural Distortions
A postural distortion is when your posture is incorrect because of the way you hold yourself in a certain area of your body. It could be anywhere, from your feet, all the way up to how you hold your head. When you have a postural distortion, your muscles overwork and are constantly tight and pulling on different bones, including vertebrae which can then misalign. When your muscles are tight and overworked, they can also cause nerve entrapments and trigger points. You may have a distortion from bad posture, over worked muscles, falls, injuries or repetitive motions. Massage helps to loosen the muscle, allowing it to go back to its original length and not be stressed and tight.
Post-Surgery
After surgery, it takes your body a while to heal from what it has undergone. Generally after a surgery, you have to wait six weeks before receiving massage, but after that time, massage can benefit a lot. You probably will have pain after undergoing surgery, and massage can help with your pain. Massage can also help with anxiety or stress you may be experiencing post-surgery.
Pregnancy
When you become pregnant, your center of gravity begins to shift as your belly grows bigger. This and the growing uterus put a lot of stress on the joints and ligaments around your pelvis and uterus, often causing pain in the low back. Massage therapists can access the pain in the low back and around the hips to relieve tension in and around the ligaments and low back.
Rheumatoid Arthritis
This is an auto-immune disorder in which your joints are chronically inflamed and painful. It doesn't always attack all of your joints however; the most common are the joints in the hands and feet. Massage can help reduce the pain and stiffness around the joints where the inflammation is occurring.
Rotator Cuff Injury
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles that surround the shoulder joint to keep the head of the shoulder in place in the socket. A couple of different injuries you can experience in the rotator cuff are an impingement, a tear, or tendinitis. Usually you experience a dull ache in your shoulder that worsens when you try and do activities with your shoulder. Overuse is a very common cause of all of these injuries. If you have a job or play a sport that includes having your arm overhead a lot, you are at risk for a rotator cuff injury.
Scar Tissue
After you experience an injury, your body heals and in the process, leaves behind scar tissue. Scar tissue replaces the skin that was there with new tissue. It looks different because of the way it is compiled. You can picture normal skin as a stack of neatly piled logs. Scar tissue is like a scattered stack of logs. The fibers are running all over and not in neat lines, and that is why it looks different than normal skin. Massage therapists can work directly on top of your scar tissue and help to realign the fibers so they are running more parallel. This will reduce the amount of hardened scar tissue. The sooner you see a massage therapist after an injury, the better.
Sciatica Pain
This refers to the pain people feel that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve. You may feel pain radiate from your buttocks, and down your leg. Typically, only one leg is affected from sciatic pain. The reason for the pain could be a couple of different factors. One is that you may have a bone spur or bulging disc in your low back that is putting pressure on the nerve. You also have a muscle in your buttocks that the sciatic nerve runs right underneath and in some people even pierces. This muscle is called the piriformis. When the piriformis becomes tight, it also can put pressure on the nerve and cause pain. Our Massage Therapists can release the piriformis and the muscles surrounding it to relieve sciatica pain.
Scoliosis
A scoliosis is when you have an abnormal curvature in your back, curving to the left or right. A scoliosis will generally occur during a growth spurt just before puberty. The cause of these curvatures is unknown. Most cases are mild but there are severe cases that can be disabling. Massage can help to reduce the tension in the muscles near the spine. Muscles tighten because of the scoliosis, and massage can reduce the pain in your back.
Shin Splints
A shin splint is when you experience pain along your shin bone, or your tibia. Most often, a shin splint will occur when you increase your activity significantly. When you increase your activity, your muscles, bones and tendons become overworked causing pain along the tibia. Massage therapists can help to relieve and release the muscles around the tibia, reducing the pain in the lower leg.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain is referring to any pain around the shoulder joint. Pain can occur for a number of different reasons (refer to rotator cuff injury). Shoulder pain can occur from a muscle issue, or the pain could be coming from inside the joint itself. Pain usually worsens when the shoulder is used. While there are a number of different causes, massage helps to relieve and release the muscles around the shoulder joint.
Spinal Herniation
A spinal herniation is when the soft center of the spinal disk pushes through a crack on the outer surface of the disk. Pain occurs if the herniation pushes onto a nerve. Most of the time, a massage therapist will help to alleviate the symptoms of the herniated disc by increasing blood flow to the area, and loosening tight muscles around the herniated disc, helping to relieve the pain surrounding the area.
Stomach Pain
Most everyone experiences some sort of stomach pain at some point in their life. It can vary from being dull or sharp, long in duration or short. Again, there are multiple reasons why you may be experiencing stomach pain. Stomach massage can help alleviate stomach pain and issues, such as gas and bloating. Stomach massage can also help to strengthen the abdominal muscles. Stomach massage increases blood flow to the abdomen, helping to alleviate stress and tension. This also helps to stimulate internal organs.
Strains & Sprains
A sprain is stretching or tearing of a ligament, and a strain is stretching or tearing of a tendon or muscle. A ligament connects bone to bone and tendon connects muscle to bone. A massage therapist can use a technique called cross fiber friction to help repair a tear in a ligament or tendon. After a massage tendon, pain will be lessened and you may be able to move better.
Tendonitis
Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon. It causes pain and tenderness, making it hard to move the affected joint. Massage helps to decrease inflammation and swelling, increases blood flow to the area (which speeds up the healing process) and averts the production of adhesions in the affected tendon.
TMJ Syndrome
TMJ Syndrome is when the temporomandibular joint (connects the jawbone to the skull) is working improperly. When the joint isn't working properly, it causes pain and sometimes 'locked jaw'. You can get TMJ syndrome from clenching your jaw, or chewing a lot of gum, repetitive motions. Massage helps to loosen the muscles around the TMJ and that helps to let the joint move properly.
Whiplash
Whiplash is a neck injury that happens when a person's neck is forced into a quick back and forth motion, much like a whip. Many times, whiplash can happen when you get rear ended in a car. You can also get the injury from other causes. Whiplash causes neck pain, stiffness and headaches. Massage will help to release the tight muscles and release the tension, relieving the pain and headaches.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture controls pain and improves functioning by inserting thin needles through the skin at specific points on the body.
Acupuncture improves the body's functions and promotes the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific anatomic sites–commonly referred to as acupuncture points, or acupressure points.
Acupuncture treats the human body as a whole that involves several "systems of function" that are in some cases loosely associated with (but not identified on a one-to-one basis with) physical organs.
With Many years of clinical experience using more than 400 points on the body have shown the effectiveness of this healing modality.
In 1997, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) documented and publicized acupuncture's safety and efficacy for treating a wide range of conditions.
Dry Needling Vs Acupuncture
Dry Needling Vs Acupuncture
Dry Needling is a technique of inserting a few filiform needles into a trigger point area or the area of a knot. Dry Needling helps to relieve any spasm or muscle pain as well as release the knots in the muscles. Dry Needling is a great treatment for sports injury recovery. Acupuncture is the practice of inserting needles at specific points to stimulate nerves and release endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers. Acupuncture is excellent for relieving pain and tension in muscles. So the difference between Dry Needling and Acupuncture is while Dry Needling is designed to address the body's muscle system by relieving muscle tension through activation of the trigger point, Acupuncture is intended to treat the nervous system by interacting with nerve endings, releasing endorphins which in turn relieves pain and tension in muscles. Acupuncture is not limited to treating muscle pain only, but treats many more conditions.

What Our Customers Are Saying
Don't just take it from us, let our customers do the talking!
Julie
I have had migraines since I was a teenager. I've tried everything, medications, biofeedback, physical therapy, nothing helped long term, until I started having Acupuncture near me. I went from two headaches a week to two headaches a month. And the relief started after the third session. I can enjoy my life again! So happy there is a place I can go for Acupuncture near me.
Donna
I have had issues with my hip for over three years. My doctor always sent me to physical therapy and only ever got a little relief. That is until I started going to TREE OF LIFE. The massage was amazing! I had been going for almost a year when my therapist suggested that I also do acupuncture near me. Between these two wonderful people I can say I feel the best I've felt in years!!! Highly recommend both of them. It has been the best treatment option for me!
Molly
I began going to Tree of Life for acupuncture during my infertility journey, specifically post egg retrieval and leading up to my embryo transfer. During the course of our sessions, my acupuncturist paid careful attention to which stage of the process I was in and talked me through where she would be placing the needles all while explaining the benefits. I found this very soothing and truly looked forward to each session as I was able to fully relax during a very stressful time in my life. I am excited to report that I am now entering my second trimester and am so grateful to have had this wonderful acupuncture experience to help me get and stay pregnant. I am a true believer and would highly recommend Tree of Life to anyone trying to navigate infertility.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Acupuncture work?
Most commonly, inserting thin, sterile needles into the skin is used to stimulate acupoints. Pressure, heat, or electrical stimulation may also be used. Acupuncture therapy can stimulate the function of the body's natural healing response through various physiological systems. Modern research has demonstrated acupuncture's effects on the nervous system, endocrine and immune systems, cardiovascular system, and digestive system. Whether they work through increasing circulation, stimulating nerves, or releasing endorphins, centuries of experience have shown how powerful acupuncture is for healing the body.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Yes, acupuncture is safe when performed by a licensed and trained acupuncturist. At Tree of Life Therapeutic Massage & Spa, our acupuncturists are certified and licensed by the state of Minnesota.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture needles are much thinner than what are used for shots and blood draws, about the thickness of a human hair. Because of this, the sensation of inserting the needles is mild and almost negligible once they are in. Normal reactions to needling include redness in the area, a sensation of heat/cold, feeling of heaviness, or an electric "Zinger".
How long does an acupuncture session last?
Acupuncture sessions typically last between 30-60 minutes, depending on your individual needs and treatment plan.
How many acupuncture sessions will I need?
The number of acupuncture sessions you'll need depends on the condition being treated, its severity, and how long you've had it. Our acupuncturists will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan based on your individual needs.
What's the difference between Dry needling vs. Acupuncture?
Dry Needling is designed to address the body's muscle system by relieving muscle tension through activation of the trigger point, Acupuncture is intended to treat the nervous system by interacting with nerve endings, releasing endorphins which in turn relieves pain and tension in muscles. Acupuncture is not limited to treating muscle pain only, but treats many more conditions

Microneedling & Nano Needling Services
Welcome to our Microneedling service page at Tree of Life Therapeutic Massage & Spa located in Plymouth, MN! Here, you will learn everything you need to know about Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, and the differences between Microneedling and Nano Needling.
What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, and promoting skin rejuvenation. This process helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation, leaving your skin looking smoother, firmer, and more youthful. At our clinic, we use the latest technology and techniques to ensure that our Microneedling treatment is safe, effective, and tailored to your specific needs. Our team of professionals has years of experience in this field and is committed to providing you with the best possible service and care.
What Is Nanoneedling?
Nano Needling, also known as Microchanneling, is a gentler alternative to Microneedling. Nano Needling involves the use of a device that contains short, hair-like needles that only reach the epidermis. The length of the needles used during a Nano Needling treatment ranges from 0.25mm to 0.5mm. During a Nano Needling session, the needles create tiny channels in the epidermis, allowing topical products to penetrate deeper into the skin. This process helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Nano Needling is a less invasive procedure than Microneedling, and therefore may require less downtime. Patients may experience mild redness and sensitivity in the treated area for a few hours after the treatment. Nano Needling is an ideal option for those with sensitive skin or who are looking for a less invasive treatment.
Microneedling vs Nanoneedling
While both Microneedling and Nano Needling are forms of collagen induction therapy, there are some differences between them. Microneedling uses longer needles that penetrate the skin's dermis, while Nano Needling uses shorter needles that only reach the epidermis.
Benefits of Microneedling
Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
Microneedling promotes the production of collagen and elastin, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Improves skin texture and tone
The increase in collagen production stimulated by Microneedling can also improve skin texture and tone, resulting in smoother, more even skin.
Reduces hyperpigmentation and scarring
Microneedling can improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation and scarring by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and promoting skin cell turnover.
Enhances product absorption
The tiny punctures created by Microneedling allow skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, enhancing their efficacy and results.
Minimally invasive
Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that requires no downtime. Patients may experience some redness and sensitivity in the treated area for a few days after the treatment, but can typically resume their normal activities immediately.
Safe for all skin types and colors
Microneedling is safe for all skin types and colors, making it an ideal option for a wide range of patients.
Improves overall skin health
Regular Microneedling treatments can help to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin, making it look brighter, smoother, and more youthful.
Cost-effective
Microneedling is a cost-effective alternative to more invasive procedures such as laser treatments or chemical peels. At Tree of Life Therapeutic Massage & Spa located in Plymouth, MN, we have several Microneedling package options for you to choose from. Book your Skin Consult appointment to talk with Ariel, our skincare professional, and see what's right for you.
Benefits of Nano Needling
Stimulates collagen and elastin production
Nano Needling creates tiny channels in the epidermis, triggering the skin's natural healing response and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. This helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, and improve skin texture and tone.
Enhances product absorption
The channels created by Nano Needling allow skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin, improving their efficacy and enhancing their results.
Improves skin hydration and elasticity
The increased collagen and elastin production stimulated by Nano Needling helps to improve skin elasticity and hydration, leaving the skin looking plump, firm, and youthful.
Reduces skin sensitivity
Nano Needling is a gentle procedure that does not damage the skin's barrier, making it an ideal option for those with sensitive skin.
Improves overall skin health
Regular Nano Needling treatments can help to improve the overall health and appearance of the skin, making it look brighter, smoother, and more radiant.
Minimally invasive
Nano Needling is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require any downtime. Patients may experience mild redness and sensitivity in the treated area for a few hours after the treatment, but can typically resume their normal activities immediately.
Safe for all skin types and colors
Nano Needling is safe for all skin types and colors, making it an ideal option for a wide range of patients.
Choosing the Right Service
At Tree of Life Therapeutic Massage & Spa located in Plymouth, MN, we have several Nano Needling package options for you to choose from. Book your Skin Consult appointment to talk with Ariel, our skincare professional, and see what's right for you. In conclusion, choosing between Micro Needling and Nano Needling depends on your individual skin concerns, sensitivity, downtime availability, and desired results. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and let our skincare professionals help you choose the right service for your skin. Choosing the right service can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to skincare treatments like Micro Needling and Nano Needling. Here are some factors to consider when deciding which service is right for you:
Skin Concerns
The first step in deciding which service is right for you is to identify your specific skin concerns. If you have mild to moderate skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation, Nano Needling may be the right choice for you. If you have more significant concerns such as deep wrinkles and scarring, Micro Needling may be a better option.
Skin Sensitivity
Another factor to consider is your skin sensitivity. If you have sensitive skin, Nano Needling may be a better choice as it is a gentle procedure that does not damage the skin's barrier. Micro Needling, on the other hand, may cause some redness and irritation, especially in those with sensitive skin.
Downtime
Micro Needling may require a longer downtime than Nano Needling. If you have a busy schedule and cannot afford to take time off from work or other activities, Nano Needling may be the better option as it typically requires minimal downtime.
Results
The results of Micro Needling and Nano Needling can vary depending on your skin type, concerns, and the number of treatments you receive. Micro Needling may offer more dramatic results than Nano Needling, but it also requires more downtime and may be more uncomfortable.
Consultation
Finally, it's important to consult with a skincare professional to determine which service is right for you. A skincare professional can evaluate your skin type and concerns, and recommend the best treatment plan to achieve your desired results.

Microneedling & Nano Needling F.A.Qs
What's the difference between nano needling vs microneedling?
The main difference is the tip of the cartridge being used for your service. Nano-needling can also be called nano infusion because it uses tiny cone-shaped tips to infuse serums into your skin. Microneedling uses a cartridge that has small needles on the end of it that penetrate into your skin, causing tiny micro-wounds to force collagen to form.
Does Micro Needling or Nano Needling hurt?
Neither service should be painful. Your skin is numbed for micro needling, so any area you're getting work on shouldn't be uncomfortable. Nano infusion doesn't require numbing and feels like vibration on the skin. On some areas of the face, such as your forehead, it could be slightly uncomfortable because your bone is closer to the skin. Both services have the ability to turn up or down the intensity of the tips being used, so be sure to vocalize to your esthetician if you do feel uncomfortable.
How will my skin look after the treatment?
Nano Needling is pretty non-invasive, so you won't leave red or terribly flushed. Your skin may be light pink, but it will go down very quickly. With Micro Needling you should expect to be pretty flushed and/or red after the treatment. We are causing micro-wounds on your skin by puncturing tiny needles into it, so it is expected to see flushing. However, the redness should go down in a couple of hours.
What should I do to prepare for a Micro Needling or Nano Needling service?
Stay away from retinols/retinoids for at least a week leading up the appointment, and no exfoliation at least 2-3 days before. For Micro Needling, you are expected to be red after the treatment and your skin can be pretty sensitive. We advise looking ahead at your schedule and not doing any strenuous activity that can work up a sweat, and absolutely no spending time in the sun for extended periods of time without protective gear or sunscreen. Nano Needling requires much less healing time and you won't be as sensitive as Micro Needling. We will have a full list of contraindications upon signing your paperwork, but if you have any questions about the treatments or which service is right for you, you can schedule a free consultation with our esthetician to discuss your options and treatment plan.
How many treatments are recommended to see results from Micro Needling or Nano Needling?
Nano infusion will help plump and brighten the skin right away, but because it's not invasive as microneedling, you will need more treatments to reach your desired result. Microneedling forces collagen to form and after about 3-4 weeks post-treatment is when the collagen starts to pump out from the healing process. Typically most people will need 3-6 treatments of microneedling, possibly more depending on the severity of concerns. Remember, everyone's skin is different and responses to treatment can vary widely. As with any goal you're trying to achieve, it takes time and effort to get there. There is no such thing as a "one and done" service to treat all concerns and conditions on the skin. However, we can certainly create a plan together to help you achieve whatever goals you may have for your skin.
What is the downtime after Microneedling?
There is typically some redness and sensitivity in the treated area for a few days after a Microneedling treatment, but patients can typically resume their normal activities immediately. Sunscreen and makeup can be worn the day after the treatment.
Is Microneedling safe for all skin types?
Microneedling is generally safe for all skin types and colors, but it's important to consult with a skincare professional to determine if Microneedling is the right treatment for you.
How can I prepare for a Microneedling treatment?
Before a Microneedling treatment, it's important to avoid sun exposure and any topical skincare products that may irritate the skin. Our skincare professional can provide additional guidance on how to prepare for your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

As an athlete I am always looking for best way to relax and recover. I love the infrared sauna! It's warm relaxing atmosphere and variety of light therapies to enhance recovery make a huge difference for me in getting back on the court. I highly recommend adding a sauna treatment to any of the services at Tree of Life!

Having been a chronic back pain and Allergy sufferer for many years, I only wish I had tried the Infrared Sauna Therapy sooner! The benefits for me were an immediate sinus pressure relief, decrease in muscle tension and a tremendous increase in energy, with an overall added feeling of happiness/well being! That was an added plus I didn't expect! I expected to get really hot and sweaty during the sessions and that is most definitely not the case. Infrared technology heats your core temperature slowly, promoting many healthy benefits but not a sweaty body! I am now adding the Infrared Therapy session to my bi-weekly regimen!

I find the infrared sauna both helps me relax and prepares my muscles for a massage. I use the light therapies for what ever my needs are that day, detox, pain relief, or even just relaxation. I have a better massage experience when I'm able to use the sauna for 30 minutes first. It has been a beneficial addition to the many options TOL has to offer for health and wellness.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long are my sessions?
Recommended sessions are 30 minutes. You can be exposed to infrared heat for hours and it will never cause your skin to burn. In fact, infrared heat is so safe it is used in hospitals to warm newborn babies.
What should I wear?
Towels and robes are provided. Feel free to bring a bathing suit or other garment to wear during your treatment.
Is this safe if you are Pregnant?
Its is highly recommended NOT to use this Sauna if you are pregnant.
Are there any Contra-Indications?
Micro Point Stimulation
Micro Point Stimulation

Dolphin Neurostim is the world's first device specifically designed to reduce sympathetic stress for the reduction of soft tissue pain.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does it really work?
Dolphin unit works by reducing stress (called sympathetic upregulation) to help relax tight muscles, ease nerve compression and fascia tension to relieve chronic pain.
Is it painful to experience?
Not very. However, some individual points may be tender or hyper sensitive, and treatment may resemble the strong, tingling sensation known as "De Chi" in acupuncture.
