History of Tortas Mexico Tortas Mexico started in October 1994 when Jaime and Mary Abarca opened the doors to their tiny 300 square foot restaurant located in La Canada, CA. Their philosophy was simple; fresh home-style food with an authentic Mexico City flavor, at a reasonable price. Soon, people were lining out the door and parking was scarce. They relocated on Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta in 1997. Their popularity continued to grow throughout the community and after nine years, they were again forced out when the property was sold. Once again Tortas Mexico was able to relocate to the La Crescenta/Tujunga border. Tortas Mexico continues to operate under the supervision of their daughter and son-in-law using the same philosophy that Mary and Jaime started over 13 years ago. All our food is made daily using only the best and freshest ingredients without using lard, preservatives, or artificial additives. All our salsas and guacamole are made from scratch and we continue to strive to deliver the most authentic flavor possible.
