Services & Fees
Time for a Walk® offers a wide array of services including Daily Dog Walking & Pet Sitting, Overnight Pet Sitting, Pet Transportation, House Sitting, Alternating of Lights/Curtains, Mail/Newspaper Retrieval, and more all at affordable prices. Time for a Walk® specializes in dog walking and pet sitting services, offered in Arlington, and select areas of Alexandria and McLean, Virginia.
Free Initial Consultation
Note: Historically most consultations last 30 minutes or less. An extended consultation fee will be applied to consultation time exceeding 30 minutes. FREE consultations are scheduled Monday - Friday (excluding holidays) between 9AM and 4PM.
At the initial consultation, we meet you and your pets, gather all information relevant for the visits, and discuss your needs and those of your pet.
All prospective clients must provide two sets of house keys at the time of the initial consultation. One set of keys will remain with your pet's caregiver and the other will be secured at our office. If keys are not provided at the initial consultation, a $10 administrative fee will apply to accommodate their retrieval at a later date. Please double check any new keys to be certain they are working.
Dog Walking and Pet Sitting
Puppies
Daily mid-day visits greatly assist in the maintenance of a housebreaking schedule. Proper housebreaking requires a consistent schedule of bathroom breaks for your puppy.
Cats and Other Pets
We specialize in helping cats, fish, rodents, reptiles, and virtually all other pets enjoy their days at home when their parents are unable to walk, feed, or otherwise care for them. Walking, feeding and caring for your pet are not the only things we will do. We can clean litter boxes, turn on/off the lights, bring in the mail/newspaper, and water your plants. Each walk/visit is concluded with a hand-written note describing any notable activities related to the health and well-being of your pet.

Daily visit rates apply to customers wishing to use our services without committing to a monthly contract.

Due to insurance liability and workers compensation regulations, Time for a Walk® employees are no longer permitted to walk three or more dogs together. Time for a Walk® is more than happy to care for three or more pets within the same home, with yard visits, and or walking pets either individually, or in pairs (two dogs together, from the same home) assuming that the pets can be walked together safely.

Monthly Contract Rates; (M-F, excluding Holidays)
Customers requiring recurring dog walks or pet visits can take advantage of our competitive monthly contract rates. Monthly contract dog walking / pet sitting services are provided at approximately the same time once per day, Monday through Friday excluding holidays between the hours of 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Please note: monthly contracts are not available for durations of less than three (3) consecutive calendar months. Please refer to the "holiday surcharge" section below for additional holiday information.

Overnight Pet & House Sitting
This is a great alternative for you and your pet! We know how much of a hassle it is to kennel our pets, not to mention the stress on our pets and the guilt we as parents feel. With our overnight pet & house sitting, your pet(s) will experience the pleasure of staying in their own home while you're away. When you return, you'll be able to catch up with our hand-written notes detailing the highlights of our stay with your pet.
Overnights are available 7 days a week, holidays too.
Visits include caring for your pet
An evening walk and feeding, staying over-night, and a morning walk and feeding. Checking mail, collecting newspapers, watering plants, and performing a cursory house check.
An additional midday walk is recommended for dogs

Overnight Pet & House Sitting Rates

Standard
Includes a 30 minute visit between 5-7pm. Your sitter will return by 10pm for an overnight stay of 8 hours.

Pet Taxi
Does your pet need to be driven to the vet or another destination within the Washington metropolitan area? Time for a Walk® offers safe, reliable, insured pet transportation for your beloved pets at reasonable rates!
$25 flat rate for the first 5 miles

Waiting charge at pick-up or destination location prorated at $34/hr.

If your pet needs medications or supplements we are qualified and happy to help with that too.

For Cats and Small Pets (excluding dogs)
Visits scheduled on the day of, day before or the day after the following holidays will incur an additional Holiday fee of $25 per Holiday (charged once per Holiday). New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
For Dogs
Visits scheduled on New Years Eve (after 5:00 PM)/New Years Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas incur an additional Holiday fee of $25 per Holiday.
Other Info
Reservation and Cancellation Fees
Visits scheduled or cancelled with less than 2 business days notice will incur an additional $15 fee as our caregivers must adjust their schedules to accommodate these late requests. Please Note: Time for a Walk® business days are defined as Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays.
Caregiver Meet & Greet Fee
Clients wishing to meet their assigned caregiver(s) may do so for an additional fee of $10. Please call the office to schedule your Meet & Greet session.
Lockout Fee
Clients requiring their Time for a Walk® keys on file to regain access to their homes will incur a lockout fee of $25 during normal business hours and $40 outside of normal business hours. Please Note: Time for a Walk® business hours are defined as Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays.
FAQ
Do you pet sit animals other than dogs?
Yes! We will gladly care for your furry loved ones: dogs, cats, birds, fish, small animals and exotics.
Do you have references?
We will gladly provide client references upon request!
Are you licensed, bonded and insured?
Yes! We are licensed, fully bonded and insured to protect you and your pet. Copies of these certificates will be made available upon request.
Do you use independent contractors?
No, all of our our pet caregivers are employees of Time For A Walk, LLC. Providing our clients with a broad team of employees ensures consistent quality, continuity of service, and reduced client risk through workman's compensation insurance.
How do you choose your pet caregivers?
Our primary goal is to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our clients, their pets and property. Our caregivers undergo an extensive screening process before being hired, including reference and background checks. Our caregivers are carefully screened and meticulously trained. We will never hire a caregiver that we wouldn't feel comfortable hiring for our own pets.
Will I be assigned the same pet caregiver each time I use the service?
We try to assign each client a "regular" caregiver. Occasionally your caregiver may be sick, on vacation, etc. In that case a fully trained and informed substitute will be assigned to your pet(s). We keep electronic profiles on every client's pet so that any of our caregivers can knowledgeably serve any of our clients at a moment's notice. Sometimes it will be possible to meet a substitute caregiver, and sometimes it will not. Rest assured -- your pet and home are in good hands with any Time for a Walk® caregiver.
Can I call my pet's caregiver directly?
No. Out of respect for our employees' privacy and to maintain our high standard of customer service, please do not call your caregiver's home or mobile phone. To guarantee prompt and uninterrupted service, please direct all calls through our office number only at 703.738.6832. Any services requested directly through your pet's caregiver cannot be guaranteed.
How do I cancel or add a walk or other service?
Just call 703.738.6832 or email us at Reservations Email by 9 a.m.! This gives us time to get schedule requests with our caregivers before they start their day. If you are calling to add a walk, we will call you to confirm. If you are calling to cancel a walk, we will call to confirm only if you request a confirmation. Note: A late reservation/cancellation fee applies in instances in which Time for a Walk® receives less than two (2) business days notice. Time for a Walk® business days are defined as Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays.
What are your office hours?
Our office hours are M-F from 9 to 5. We routinely assist our clients over the phone throughout the day. If you happen to reach our voice mail during office hours, please leave us a message and rest assured that we will contact you immediately upon receiving your message. Alternately, existing clients may try our emergency line number at 703.203.0341 if the matter is urgent.
What is your snow policy?
To ensure the overall safety of our caregivers, we reserve the right to cancel services if the Federal Government is closed. If we decide to cancel services, we will state that in our outgoing message and attempt to contact each client via e-mail and by phone. There will be no charge if we cancel your walk due to inclement weather.
Do you offer pet sitting services when I travel?
Absolutely! Time for a Walk® handles all types of pet sitting reservations. Call 703.738.6832, or email us at Reservations Email to discuss your particular needs.
What if I need to change my weekly schedule?
Simply call our office to discuss your needs. If your caregiver's schedule cannot accommodate your request, we will be happy to assign another caregiver to meet your needs.
Do you offer referral incentives?
Yes! Our business continues to grow from the kindness of your referrals. There is no greater testimonial than you referring us to others. As a thank you, we'll give you a 10% credit towards future services for each new referral that signs a monthly contract (Offer not to be combined. Contact the Time for a Walk® office for additional details and restrictions).
