Heart Mandala for Self-Esteem with Nya Patrinos
Sat, Date: 10/18/2014; From: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Wouldn't it be powerful if you fell in love with yourself so deeply that you would do just about anything if you knew it would make you happy? This is precisely how much life loves you and wants you to nurture yourself. The deeper you love yourself, the more the universe will affirm your worth. Then you can enjoy a lifelong love affair that brings you the richest fulfillment from inside out. -Alan Cohen. Often we forget to celebrate and nurture ourselves. Sometimes our inner critique is so strong that we say things about ourselves internally that we would not say to our worst enemy. Many times we rely on other people's compliments and encouragement to determine our own self-worth. In this busy life, we can easily forget who we are and what makes us unique and special. The self-esteem heart mandala reminds us to celebrate ourselves as the success we already are. During the process of mandala making we are forced to slow down and remember our greatness. Yours is the energy that makes your world. There are no limitations to the self except those you believe in. -Jane Roberts. Use collage, paint, writing, colored pencils and markers to visualize all this year's successes, future successes and wishes in a beautiful individual heart mandala. You can take this piece of art home to remember your past, present and future accomplishments. Invoke the power of the second chakra to create the life you have dared to dream about. About Your Guide: Nya Patrinos (RYT 200), a competitive athlete from the age of 6, started practicing yoga as a way to heal chronic knee pain after all else failed. She is passionate about yoga, art and meditation as tools for healing. She has studied Therapeutic Vinyasa and Yoga Philosophy at Loyola Marymount University, Yin Yoga under its founder and lineage holder Master Paulie Zink, Yoga Nidra at the Yoga Academy of North America, and Yoga and Art at AyurYoga Eco Ashram in Kerala India. Having worked as a Set Decorator for twenty years in the high pressured film industry, she has used yoga, art and meditation for stress management, personal balance and to enhance overall well-being. Qigong can improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions. About Your Guides: Brian Kukan - had no idea that picking up a discarded flyer advertising meditation classes in 2007 would be the moment that his life started to change. Only a few months after he started meditating, he heard about Reiki, and he knew that he needed to learn more about it. After reading books, attending Reiki circles and classes, and receiving many attunements, one could say that it has completely altered his life path. Sometimes all you have to do is get out of your own way and listen. Eric Hallinan - Most peoples quest towards any kind of truth is usually a reactive response to trauma, with a certain desperation, and my story is no different. In February of 2012, one of my lungs had spontaneously collapsed. Dr's don't know why this happens, what causes it or how to prevent it. Pretty scary. I underwent surgery to remove part of my lung and this was by far the hardest experience of my life. Through my stint in the hospital it became clear to me that Western medicine is very good at putting "Humpty Dumpty" back together again, for which I am eternally grateful. However, when it came time to recover it was up to the patient to seek sound nutritional advice, mental and emotional perseverance strategies, and regain physical strength. I wasn't sure how I was going to do it but I knew that I didn't want to find myself at the mercy of a medical paradigm whose guess was as good as mine. It was time to take responsibility. The journey began. I walked into the world of herbs, nutrition, and mindfulness with open arms and mind. Then I began looking for a low impact, soft martial arts that would be meditative in nature yet strengthen the physical body. Qigong fit the bill. The benefits of Qigong can be unforeseen at first until your inner strength surfaces and helps you adapt to overcome the challenges of life. My intentions were never to teach but in doing so it has deepened my understanding and connection to the practice. I've been blessed to have the loving support of friends and family through my journey and now, I've learned to be there for myself so I may be there for others. Often times we are concerned with vitality and longevity which Qigong offers but above all, Qigong makes you a better human being. For me, it's one piece of the puzzle to a balanced life. Nutritional Therapy
Nutritional therapy uses an assessment process to identify imbalances in body chemistry. These imbalances or nutritional deficiencies are corrected through diet, lifestyle changes and targeted nutrients. Nutritional therapists do not diagnose or treat disease, but work to correct imbalances with the goal of gently guiding individuals back on the path to health.
Hypnosis
Hypnosis is a state of inner absorption, concentration and focused attention. It is like using a magnifying glass to focus the rays of the sun and make them more powerful. Hypnosis allows people to use more of their potential, move through emotional blocks and spiritual blocks. Hypnosis can be used for weight loss, smoking cessation, phobiasstress relief, creating healthier belief systems, and overall wellness.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Raindrop/Aroma Therapy
The Raindrop Technique is a method of using Vita Flex, reflexology, massage techniques, etc., and essential oils applied on various locations of the body to bring it structural and electrical alignment. It is designed to bring balance to the body with its relaxing and mild application. It will help align the energy centers of the body and release them if blocked, without using hard pressure or trying to force the body to change, which should never be done.
Thai Massage
Also known as Thai Yoga Massage, Thai massage respects the body's limits, while encouraging clients to reach their edge of flexibility-but never beyond. Thai massage uses acupressure, massage, and passive-assisted stretching, where therapists help clients move into their stretch.
Healthy Life Style Coaching
You will work one-on-one with a counselor. The goal is to educate, empower, and support you to make long-term healthy changes by building self-efficacy and skills you can use long past the end of one on one counceling. Healthy Life Style coaching addresses exercise, nutrition, stress, weight, tobacco cessation, abusive relationship cycles, self defeating habits, emotional, spiritual, and physical healing.
Detoxification
The practice of detoxifying the body to rid it of unhealthy toxins has been around for centuries. Hippocrates recommended fasting to improve health, and many religious groups have historically used fasting as a way of purifying the spirit. Your practitioner will walk you through detoxification of your body and your environment while rebuilding your helath and vitality.
Household Detoxification
Our world is full of toxic chemicals that cause serious health risks. Learn and understand chemicals to avoid, personal care products on the do and don't use list, and household cleaning products that will clean without harming your health. Your practitioner will walk you through detoxification of your home and work environment while rebuilding your helath and vitality.
Reiki Fusion
The literal translation of the word Reiki is: "spiritually guided life force energy." It is a Japanese form of energy work that promotes deep stress reduction, relaxation and aides healing processes on a quantum level. Reiki Fusion is my personal note to the traditional Usui Reiki method, adding the use of chakra energy cards, sound, aroma, crystals and light touch based on my experience as a physical therapist and holistic practitioner. It can be preformed in person or sent remotely.
Dream Life Coaching
A form of coaching in which we utilize the interpretation of your nighttime dreams to help you achieve your daytime desires. We dive deep into the psyche, taking a close look at the key dream symbols and scenarios your subconscious/higher self is choosing so carefully to communicate to your waking self. Like an archeologist we search to uncover the mystery of what lies beneath and bring it to day light where the pieces can be put together and really seen for what they represent. According to our findings we can then determine powerful affirmations/mantras and different types of dream activations suited to heal your unresolved dreams. Dream work/ dream alchemy is incredibly rewarding for the soul and in return supports your daytime desires in ways you never could have imagined. A "meaningless" dream snippet becomes a meaningful guide to help you navigate through your everyday life.
New to Yoga? Yoga Etiquette
Welcome!
We are excited to welcome you to The Yogi Tree Center for Growth! The Yogi Tree is a holistic living center, where you can lay down your roots and develop a yogic practice and a healthy, yogi lifestyle. We want to support you on every step of your journey ensuring you feel supported and have a place to receive guidance and have your questions answered; from an everyday practice, to addiction recovery, to preparing for one special day, such as birth. The Yogi Tree offers over 25 classes per week taught by highly experienced teachers. The many workshops and special events held each month help deepen your understanding and connect you to community. The Yogi Tree has created a warm, family style environment that provides an opportunity for growth and change in a safe, non-threatening, compassionate way.
What should I wear/bring?
Wear something comfortable like sweats, shorts or workout clothing. Bring a bottle of water, yoga mat, and a towel if you like. Eye coverings and meditation pillows are nice to have. We do have mats you can borrow, but we recommend you invest in your practice and purchase your own. (Yoga Mats and Eye Pillows are available for purchase in our retail center)
Which class should I take first?
If you have never done Yoga before and are nervous, dealing with an injury or haven't worked out in a while, we recommend you start with a Restorative or Deep Stretch Yoga class. If you are new to Yoga but have a regular exercise routine, the Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga classes would be a great start. Happy Hour Yoga is a fun, energetic class that is designed for the beginner to intermediate student. The Mat Pilates class is designed to increase core strength and can work for new and seasoned students. Qigong class is about moving, breathing and quieting the mind. The Meditation Hypnosis class is a meditative practice designed to release stress, increase relaxation and work on emotional or spiritual blocks. The Restorative and Deep Stretch Yoga classes are excellent not only for newer students, but also for students who seek relaxation or stress reduction.
I'm not very flexible can I do yoga?
There is a practice for everyone. Not all yoga is "pretzel" yoga. Many of our classes focus on increasing strength and alignment. With regular practice and an open mind, your flexibility will improve at a pace that is right for you.
How many classes should I take per week?
We recommend 3-5 times a week. As with any practice, doing it regularly is the key. However, even once a week is helpful and simply doing some stretches or deep breathing on your own for five minutes a day will increase the benefits.
How do I sign up?
All of our classes are on-going and while no pre-registration required, we do recommend you sign in online. As a new student, find the class you want on the schedule and show up! For your first time, we do recommend arriving about 15 minutes early to fill out the new student form, talk to the teacher about any physical limitations that you may have and get set up for class.
What if I have an injury?
Let the teacher know prior to class and they will be able to modify poses or even suggest alternatives that can help to alleviate the pain and encourage healing. The most important thing is to listen to your body and if something hurts or doesn't feel right, stop and let the teacher know.
I can't do what everyone else can, is this right for me?
Remember yoga is not a competitive practice. Every body is different so the odds are no two poses will look the same. Honor your body and just do what feels right. If it does not feel good, slow it down and/or ask the teacher for help.
Yoga Etiquette
Yoga is a Sacred Practice Please observe the following:
Yoga is practiced in bare feet so please remove your shoes before entering the studio.
It is better to eat after a yoga class than before, as with any exercise.
Sweating is a great way to release toxins in the body.
However, if you sweat a lot, bring a towel to go over your mat so we can keep our props clean and fresh. Yoga Mats are available to borrow, but we do recommend you purchase your own. (We do carry Mats for sale)
Please do not wear heavy perfumes or oils to class as many people are affected by scents.
Please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing that allows you to move
For Kundalini practices you may consider a head covering and a meditation shawl. (Look under FAQ's for more details)
Yoga is non-competitive
Please respect your body and its limits. Rest when you need to. Slow and steady consistent action will return beautiful results.
Please notify the instructor of any injuries that you may have prior to the class and inform them if something doesn't feel right.
Please make putting away the props/mats/blankets neatly a part of your practice.
Please keep voices low in the lobby so as not to disturb the classes in session.
You must sign in and pay before class. This is very important as it ensures that our teachers are paid.
No cell phones allowed in the studio.
Please leave all of your expectations and judgments of yourself and others at the door. We strive to respect diversity in all beings.

Conscious Pregnancy Teacher Training with Jennifer Lakhmi Chand Kelly
Fri, Sat, Sun, Date: 2/6/2015 - 2/8/2015; From: 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The Journey from Woman to Mother. February 2015- June 2015. A 105-hour Comprehensive. 1 week-end a month (Fri.Sun). This Conscious Pregnancy Specialty Training prepares a KRI Certified Kundalini Yoga Instructor to teach Conscious Pregnancy and Post-partum yoga classes, with emphasis on serving women and building community. This comprehensive course is an incredible preparation for women who are planning to become mothers or are interested to educate girls or women. The training is open to women who are not Instructors of Kundalini Yoga, but work as health care professionals or are simply interested in knowing more about Kundalini Yoga teachings for woman. Using the wisdom and practical knowledge of Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, participants experience personal transformation and awakening about their identity as a woman and her journey as a mother.
Curriculum
The curriculum is based on the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, who began to teach the revered and ancient teachings of Kundalini Yoga and Humanology in the West in 1969. He emphasized that everyone is spiritual; however, most people do NOT know how to be HUMAN! He did not want to collect disciples and never initiated anyone. He instead trained students to be teachers who could inspire others to live as conscious humans. The training begins with the yogic view of the identity of a woman, including her very unique aspects, potentials and her challenges. We will practice yoga and meditations which are specifiÂc to support her wisdom, grace and invincibility. As well as studying the nature and psychological base of the male. From these two polarities we can start to investigate how intimate relationships can be developed using conscious communication and a secure self-identity.
Conscious Pregnancy Curriculum Overview
Throughout the course we give special attention to investigating how the partner transforms during the pregnancy and parenting experience. Building a conscious "family culture" based on compassion, kindness and caring is something that can be learned. Each participant will give presentations, lectures and two yoga practicums. We will view Yogi Bhajan DVD lectures and birth DVDs. Since 1977 Tarn Tarn Kaur has taught this Specialty Training around the globe, inspiring women from all cultures, paths and walks of life. We welcome participants from various countries because their sharing and knowledge of this material expands the understanding of mothering.
