In 1968 general contractors, Gene Bergmark and Carl Skogland, built The Silo restaurant with the intentions of selling it. At the time, they couldn't find a buyer, so the two men decided to open the restaurant and run it themselves. They started with Deep Dish Pizza which The Silo is still famous for. In 1984 Gene Bergmark bought out his partner Carl. In 1988 the Pikes and the Tarmans purchased The Silo from Gene. They remodeled The Silo extensively by adding new doors, windows, floors, outside deck and new bar area. They also gutted the kitchen area and redesigned it to bring in "state of the art" equipment to serve their guests faster. The Pikes and Tarmans also extended the existing menu to include great new Entrees, Sandwiches, Salads, Appetizers, Stuffed Potatoes and Desserts. A huge array of Deep Dish and Thin Crust Specialty Pizzas were also added.
