Shoppe Talk
May Shoppe Talk - 2014
I don't remember a year that I have been so happy to greet May's arrival!
After such a long, cold winter and a slow start to Spring in April, I am so ready for nice weather. Flowers popping up all over, fresh breezes, and birds singing outside my opened windows, hm-m-m-m, it doesn't get much better than that. Well, if my windows were clean it could be better, but that's another story!
One nice thing about this past winter is that I was able to do more sewing than usual.
I know many of you did the same. We've had many quilt tops brought in to show us how they've turned out. We love seeing your finished projects and encourage you to share them with us.
May is a busy time of year that takes us away from our sewing machines for a while.
There are flowers to plants, gardening to do and holidays galore.
First, remember Mom on Mother's Day. Perhaps she (or Grandma) is the one who shared her love of quilting with you.
What a priceless connection with our heritage. In quilting, we are sharing the love for others that Mom taught us. Treat her with a visit to her favorite quilt shop or give her a gift certificate so she can treat herself.
Do you have a graduate this year?
Whether it is from high school or college, graduates appreciate receiving a quilt for their dorm room or first home. T-shirt quilts seem to be the popular choice for graduates. We have several books with new fun settings for the T-shirts, something other than the usual 4x5 setting with sashing. Be sure to look those over the next time you're in and thinking about a T-shirt quilt for your favorite graduate.
Lastly, we have Memorial Day.
We can honor our military personnel's service with a red, white and blue quilt. Renewed patriotism in our country is giving all veterans the thanks they so richly deserve. If you don't have a family member or close friend to honor, you can Google “Quilts of Valor”; donate a quilt to that organization and they will give your quilt to a veteran to enjoy.
The whole month of June is set aside for the All Iowa Shop Hop.
Start planning now to explore Iowa and the many quilt shops we have in the state. If you can't make it to all of the shops, the state is divided into six regions, visit all the shops in one region and you're eligible for great prizes. Visit the All Iowa Shop Hop website for complete details: the regions, the shops, the prizes and a picture of the All Iowa fabric!
Summer will be here and gone before we know it with the busy schedules and activities of the season.
Be sure to take time for you, enjoy the days and don't let your sewing machine get “rusty”!
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Kathy Wilgenbusch.
Classes 2014
Gone Quiltin'
6:30-8:00 PM: The third Tuesday of each month. Please come and join us as we kick off the new year with the new edition of Gone Quiltin'. We meet the third Tuesday of each month and this year we are starting the year with a mystery quilt that will be spread out over four months. Each month we will also feature "Staff Pick" when we have a chance to share with the group some of our favorites. The evening is filled with great conversation, giggles and just the joy of hanging out with others that share our passion of quilting. Sometimes we even squeeze in a snack or two. We're looking forward to seeing you soon. Carol D.
