200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Winter/Spring 2019

The Fall semseter is a hybrid of in person and online training that meets every other weekend , involves a community service project, and ends with a weekend long retreat. This program is an information packed program that exceeds all time and curriculum requirements laid out by Yoga Alliance. Students who study at Om will have a strong understanding of: asana (physical poses), pranayama (breath control), anatomy and physiology, history & philosophy (through lecture and the exploration of sacred texts), sequencing, teaching styles, lifestyle of a yoga teacher, meditation. Students will also touch upon some more advanced yogic theory and practice such as Chakras, Nadis, Ayurveda, Essential Oils Etc… While this program is heavily influenced by Vinyasa, students will also come away from the program with an understanding of, and experience with: power yoga, chair yoga, Kundalini, Yin Yoga, gentle yoga, restorative yoga and more. Each student is required to co-teach a beginner yoga series while they are in training, and complete 50 hours of class time with a RYT 200 or higher (all classes outside of YTT are free at OM during the duration of training, but classes may be completed outside of the studio). At OM, we believe strongly that yoga can and should be accessible for everyone and every body and this is why we have created a program that nurtures teachers who can teach to a wide population of students while nurturing each trainees own personal practice. Our program has a strong foundation in breath and meditation and we hold true to the deeper aspects of the practice and it's philosophy and history. Respect for the practice and each other is of the highest importance.
300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training 2019

Prerequisite: 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certification through a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga School The Spring 500 Hour (+300) Yoga Teacher Training is the sequel to your 200 hour yoga teacher training certification (which is the prerequisite to take this course) that takes place in our beautiful Watertown, CT studio. Lead by Jessica Proulx, 500 Hour ERYT, this training expands on your 200 hour training and explores the deeper aspects of the yoga practice from a personal perspective and as a teacher. With the main focues of this training on Vinyasa, Ayurveda, Advanced Meditation, and advanced Pranayama, each student will travel down a road of self discovery and observation and develop a more complex teaching practice. This training program consists of Advanced Asana, Advanced Pranayama, Advanced Meditation, Bandhas and Mudras, Ayurveda for the Yoga Teacher, Sacred Texts and Deeper Practices, Ethics, Teaching Vinyasa, Advanced Anatomy, and a Practicum. Students will also be required to complete a minimum of 50 Hours of asana/meditation studio practice and observation over the course of the year (outside classroom time)

Deep Tissue Massage

A deep tissue massage at The Om Center is a great way to get a deeper healing for the musculature of the body. Your therapist will use deep, more direct pressure to move past the most superficial layers of the body and get into the deeper muscles and areas where the client may be experiencing any areas of pain or discomfort.
Thai Massage

Thai massage is an ancient form of body work that has begun to gain popularity here in the west. Practiced traditionally, full clothed on a Thai Mat, this practice gives the practitioner the ability to move their client's body in a way that would not work on a table. A complete Thai massage incorporates a traditional combination of acupressure, energy meridian work, and yoga-like stretching for an overall balancing experience.
Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage is a massage technique that uses heated stones to relax and massage sore muscles. The stones are either placed on areas of the body to use their heat alone, or as massage tools used in combination with essential oils used in aromatherapy. Basalt rocks are for their heat retention properties, and are usually heated to around 125-150 degrees using hot water. The smooth, rounded stones are then placed along various points on the body to open up energy channels and promote circulation. This is a very relaxing 75 minute massage and always a great gift for someone you love!

Private Sound Healing

Private Sound Healing sessions take place in our beautiful meditation room space. Surrounded by an ocean mural, and next to our little Zen, meditation pond, spend an hour in deep relaxation as your guide takes you through a short meditation and long sound healing session to bring you into a state of surrender and balance. Choosing to lay on the floor, on mats with bolsters and comfy blankets or supported in an anti gravity chair- you will have the option to cover the eyes with a eye pillow, choose an essential oil (if that serves you), use blankets and pillows that we have available or you may bring anything you need to be comfortable. Throughout your session, your guide will play a series of crystal and Tibetan singing bowls tuned to different vibrations and frequencies meant to help you balance your energy centers, slow the chatter of the mind, and vibrate deep into every cell of the body to help you find a sense of well being. Private sessions can also include a short Reiki session that can be discussed with your practitioner.

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by laying hands on or above the body, and is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. *Clients will remain fully clothed for the duration of the session.
Cancellation Policy: We require a 24 hour cancellation notice. If 24 hours are not given or client is a no-show, client will be charge 100% of full service price. All appointments will need a credit card to hold appointment.

The Omie Massage Program is an autopay program that gives you the convenience of a low monthly charge for massage, as well as added discounts and advantages at Om. The Omie Massage program is $60/month for 1 monthly 60 minute massage. When you join, all other massage and body work programs you receive each month are 10% off their normal price. For those who receive regular massage or even just want the one massage per month, this is a wonderful opportunity. There is no commitment to OM- here we ask you to make a commitment to health and your own wellness, you can cancel at any time.

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes creating an area of suction. One of the earliest documentations of cupping can be found in the work titled A Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies, which was written by a Taoist herbalist by the name of Ge Hong and which dates all the way back to 300 AD. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage. Many athletes use cupping as a means of rehabbing specific areas of the body. The side effects of cupping are fairly mild. Bruising should be expected, but skin should return to looking normal within 10 days. According to the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine: "Where there's stagnation, there will be pain. Remove the stagnation, and you remove the pain." The old Chinese medical maxim holds that pain results from the congestion, stagnation, and blockage of Qi, or vital energy, vital fluids, lymph, phlegm, and blood. If pain is the essence of disease, then suffering is a result of obstructed or irregular flow in the body. Chinese cupping is therefore a method of breaking up the blockage to restore the body's natural flow of energy.
