Our class is the true, authentic Bikram series–26 postures and 2 breathing exercises designed to work the entire body—every bone, muscle, joint, tendon, ligament, gland, organ, and blood vessel. The room is heated to approximately 105° Fahrenheit, with roughly 40% humidity. The same postures are done in the same order every class; so once you have taken one class, you will know what to expect every time after that. This class is 90 minutes long.
Silent Bikram Yoga
The silent class is also the Bikram series–the exact same sequence as the hot class–but instead of leading you verbally through the postures, the instructor practices with you–leading by example. This class requires a working familiarity with the Bikram yoga series, and thus is NOT appropriate for first-timers. (However, if the Silent Classes are the only ones you can come to, please contact us and we will work with you!) The silent class is an opportunity for experienced Bikram hot yoga practitioners to practice with an instructor.
This class uses the same postures and sequence as the regular Bikram hot class, but it is done quicker, with more flow and less rest time. This class is 60 minutes, rather than 90.
Hot Power 50
Hot Power 50 is a 75-minute class practiced at 105 degrees. The series is very similar to the Bikram series, involving 50 postures instead of 26. It is a detoxing, full-body workout. Temperature is 105 degrees.
Warm Gentle is a beginner-friendly, gentle practice to bring ease and opening to joints and muscles. It is ideal for those who feel inflexible, who want stress relief and who want to ease particular body issues. Athletes and people recovering from shoulder and back injuries use this class to add stretching to their routines; it is also a perfect class for those who may not be quite ready for a hot class! The Warm Gentle/Deep Stretch class begins as a slow full body warm-up through most joints and muscle groups. It progresses to more traditional yoga postures that emphasize balance, strength and stretch. The end of the class will focus more on deep stretch of large muscle groups and relaxation. Often a theme for the day will unfold as we work the poses. Temperature is approximately 80 degrees.
Focusing on graceful transitions in and out of asana, Hot Hatha is a challenging, yet fluid class. It moves through a Bikram style warm up, and then eases into a steamy Vinyasa flow. This class is soothing and strong; a balanced flow welcoming of all levels. Temperature is approximately 103 degrees.
Created by Ana Forrest over 40 years ago, Forrest Yoga is a practice designed to free up physical and emotional blocks in the body. Forrest Yoga does not require strength or flexibility; it only requires a willingness to learn how to feel authentically and respond honestly. The practice is founded on five pillars — Breath, Strength, Integrity, Spirit, and Going Deeper. It teaches you how to build strength safely, work with injuries, and connect more fully to your breath. Pose modifications are given to suit all levels of students. What to expect: deep breathing, unique abdominal work, pose modifications to heal and strengthen the neck, shoulders, back, knees, and hips; vinyasa combined with long held standing poses. Temperature is approximately 78 degrees.
The prenatal class is a non-hot class designed to stretch, strengthen, and prepare body and mind for pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Prenatal yoga is one of the most-recommended forms of exercise during pregnancy, and is an ideal practice to keep yourself and your baby healthy. You will receive physical benefits such as a reduction of back pain, leg cramps, sciatic issues, etc.; but you will also cultivate many mental and spiritual powers as well. The word "yoga" means "union" (from the Sanskrit "yuj"—"to yoke"), referring to the union of body and mind. The yoking together of body and mind occurs during the practice of yoga, and it also occurs during childbirth. You will develop mental and spiritual discipline, breath control, and the ability to stay relaxed in uncomfortable situations. This is a fairly "rigorous" prenatal yoga class, to really help you get/stay in shape, and prepare for the rigors of labor. The Hot Spot is the only yoga studio in the Mid Hudson Valley offering authentic Bikram hot Yoga--no alterations, no knock-offs; just the pure sequence of 26 postures, 2 breathing exercises, and 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The elevated temperature helps the body to stretch easier, with less chance of injury or overstretching, much as heated steel can stretch and be reshaped without fear of breaking. In addition, the heat and humidity increase the cardiovascular aspect of the practice, as well as enhance the detoxification process that occurs with hatha yoga. Practicing in a heated room also helps to foster mental discipline, as well as patience with and faith in oneself.
