The Weekend Art Club is a time for children and their families to get creative, relax and have fun while exploring art, artists, different art materials and techniques and to learn great projects that can easily be recreated at home. Time to channel your inner artist! This is also a place to explore some of your own artistic interests.
An Exploration in Watercolor & other Water Based Media
In this 5-week course, we will work with watercolor, ink, and gouache. The students will explore both the unpredictability of wet media as well as the ability to create fine and detailed lines with ink. Particularly, we will look at the figure and how it has been handled historically as well as in contemporary art.
An Exploration in Self-Portraits & Identity
A multi-media investigation including painting, drawing, photography and video of ourselves as the subject. Each week we will introduce a different medium and/or approach to the time-tested genre of self-portraiture, which will be explored in terms of it's formal, psychological, and conceptual properties.
Harlem Renaissance Globe Trotters (Ages 3-5)
Travel from LA to New York, Africa and Australia through art that reflects the history and customs of these cultures from the 1920's to present.
Students will learn to work with natural indigo and fiber reactive dyes, various dyeing techniques and basic color theory and will then use these skills and techniques to dye natural fibers that will be used in the accompanying Macrame Weaving Workshop the following weekend.
