Avtar Walia, owner of Tamarind in the Flatiron section of Manhattan opened his newest restaurant Tamarind Tribeca at 99 Hudson Street at Franklin Street. Set in a handsome corner art deco building, the modern 11,000 square foot venue seats 175 people on two levels, the main dining room and windowed bar and cocktail lounge on the first floor and a 1,500 square foot mezzanine. Mr. Walia has assembled a highly skilled team of chefs representing many of India's varied regions to produce new dishes and classic fare. Anchoring the dining room at the restaurant site is a tandoor kitchen with glass walls and a ceiling high tall black metal roof. Intimate booths with banquette seating are divided by sheer curtains and located under the mezzanine. A floating cantilevered stair leads up to the mezzanine which is used for dining, private parties and special events.
