In this intensive weekend calligraphy workshop we will examine and practice letterforms in the Copperplate hand, a pointed-pen script that was developed in 16th century England.We will work with an oblique pen holder, pointed pen nib, ink, practice pads with grid and slant lines and creating our own guidelines.

This class will be an introduction to the pointed pen and Copperplate script. Copperplate is a graceful script that lends itself to invitations, envelopes, and lettering for formal events.
This workshop is an introduction to pen-written Roman Capitals. It is designed for the beginner and anyone wanting to improve their skill level in this elegant hand. Staring with a monoline writing tool, students will examine the classical proportions, structure, letter spacing and rhythm associated with the capitals.
We will work on reducing the size of our writing while maintaining even line weight and spacing; we will practice a variety of alternative capital forms and review basic concepts of layout.This is a class for those who have taken beginning Copperplate and wish to continue practicing their hand.
