Our ice cream company was started in 1984. The first location to open was in the Riverplace development and was named Fratelli, meaning brothers in Italian. The three brothers; Tim, Todd and Michael, were among the first to bring a super premium locally made ice cream to Minneapolis. The ice cream was, and still is, made in small batches to provide for the freshest product. After a few years of success at this location the brothers opened another location at the corner of Franklin and Hennepin and named it Sebastian Joe’s Ice Cream Café in honor of their Grandfather Sebastiano who was nicknamed Joe upon arriving in New York from Italy.
The brothers continued to experiment with different flavors and expanded their ice cream repertoire to include over a hundred flavors. The next location to open was in the Linden Hills neighborhood, just a block from Lake Harriet. In addition to these two retail locations Sebastian Joe’s also provides ice cream to numerous restaurants and coffee shops around town. The company has grown and has remained true to its mission which is to provide the highest quality ice cream made with the best ingredients.
