Piano lessons at Scherzo Music School are year round with flexible periods during summer and winter.
The piano lessons are scheduled in 30, 45 or 60 minutes, once or twice per week. Enrollment is ongoing throughout the year.
Scherzo Music School's program is an excellent way to introduce children as young as 3 years old to the benefits of music education.
Lessons at Scherzo Music School does not follow a "one size fits all" approach. We design each students approach based on the cognitive and dextral development of each of our students. We design our piano lessons plan from some of the most popular approaches. Our program includes rhythmic development, ear training, reading, singing and proper piano technique. We encourage our students and parents to set goals in order to see the progress or each student. These goals can be participation in piano recitals, peer performances, or taking standardized music exams like the ABRSM.
We know how difficult it is to choose the right approach, the right teacher and schedule.
At Scherzo we work as a team; so when you enroll at our school, you are in the hands of not only one but a team of highly qualified professionals to oversee the student's music education. Our school coordinators are available before and after to help you with the enrollment process. Piano lessons can be combined with other instruments or with our Music Discovery Class for children between 3 to 5 years old.
For intermediate to advanced and adult students
We offer performance opportunities all year round and students are also encouraged to participate in ensembles. Students might also opt to follow a standardized music exam curriculum like the ABRSM exam.

Voice
Scherzo Music School's voice lessons are year round
With flexible periods during summer and winter. The program is structured in 30, 45 or 60 minute lessons, once or twice a week, and enrollment is ongoing throughout the year.
Voice lessons are an excellent way to introduce children as young as 5 years old to the benefits of music education.
Our program at Scherzo Music School does not follow a "one size fits all" approach, but instead customizes the curriculum to fit the needs of each student. Our voice teachers teach a variety of styles of music, including classical/opera, musical theater, and pop/rock.
Learning to sing is similar to learning any other instrument
Except the instrument is a part of your body. Voice lessons usually include voice warm ups and other exercises to strengthen the vocal muscles and build technique, as well as learning songs. Beginning singers will start by learning proper posture, breathing, and how to sing with a relaxed, open throat.
After learning the basics, students will begin learning more challenging vocal technique concepts
Like increasing range (being able to sing higher and lower), dynamics (singing louder and softer), agility (moving faster between different notes), and resonance (shaping the sound to make it stronger and clearer). Voice students also learn the basics of music theory and how to read music.
For intermediate to advanced students
We encourage the exploration of different genres and styles of singing. Some students choose to focus on the traditional musical theater or classical repertoire, while others study exclusively current popular songs. We encourage all of our students to set specific musical or performance goals, such as performing in student recitals, auditioning for a musical theater production, or taking a standardized music exam (such as the ABRSM).
At Scherzo Music School
We believe that even very young children can begin developing their musical and vocal skills. Many people have been told that it isn't a good idea for young children to take voice lessons, but there is no scientific evidence to support this idea. There is no reason that young children shouldn't learn to sing, as long as they are singing in an age-appropriate way and not forcing their voices to sound older. For some young beginners, it works well to combine voice lessons with another instrument, such as piano.
If you are interested in voice lessons for yourself or your child
We are happy to answer any questions that you have or schedule a new student assessment to see if voice lessons are a good fit.
Your voice
It's possible to sing almost any style of music with healthy technique, so it's important to find a teacher who is comfortable teaching the music that you like to sing. Singing without good technique can cause the voice to get tired or scratchy, and can even damage the vocal cords. Singers are like athletes, and vocal training is very much like training for any other sport: proper technique allows you to consistently perform better, with reduced risk of strain or injury.

Intermediate to advanced and adult students are encouraged also to actively participate in other musical interests such as singing
ensembles, and performances. Students in the violin program are encouraged to participate in their school's orchestra. Students might also opt to follow a standardized music exam curriculum like the ABRSM exam.
The Violin
The violin is a small
four-stringed instrument that is played with the dominant hand bowing the strings while the non-dominant hand fingers notes on the fret board. While most commonly played in orchestras and classical music, the violin has found its way into many genres of music, such as rock, pop, and folk music. The violin comes in various sizes to accommodate the size of the student. It is important for a student to practice on an instrument with the correct size.
Scherzo Music School sells and rent violins of all sizes.

Guitar Lessons
Scherzo Music School offers guitar lessons year round.
The lessons can be scheduled in 30, 45, or 60 minute lessons once or twice per week. The enrollment for the lessons is ongoing throughout the year. Guitar lessons are focused on a solid foundation of proper technique and repertoire for the instrument. In addition to learning the instrument, the lessons include note reading, ear training and theory. The lessons also include exposure to different styles and genres of music for the guitar, so once a student learns the basics, he/she will have the option to choose their style of music. Students in the guitar lessons can opt for lessons on an acoustic or electric guitar.
The Guitar
The main difference between acoustic and electric is that the electric must be plugged into an amplifier and it is ideal for bands.
On the other hand, an acoustic has a more subdued tone and is very versatile. It can also be played while singing, making it an ideal choice for those who are interested in vocal performance, or experienced vocalists looking for an instrument to accompany their singing. Scherzo Music School offers options for students who want to play guitar and develop their singing skills.
Both acoustic and electric guitars come in different sizes
types of bodies and strings. It is important to consider the size, as well as the type of string when purchasing or renting an instrument. Our teachers will be available to have an assessment and help parents and students to make the best decision regarding the best type and size for each student's needs. Scherzo Music School has a rental program that allows students to rent and change sizes when necessary without an additional charge. Click here for information about rentals.

The Instrument
Believed to be the oldest musical instrument
the flute is also one of the smallest and lightest. Although categorized as a woodwind instrument, flutes are usually made of nickel, silver or silver-plated brass. A reedless instrument, sound is produced by blowing air into a hole, with the instrument being held parallel and to the right of the musician.
The instrument produces a soprano sound
using three different octaves. The piccolo, a smaller variation of the flute, has a pitch that can go an octave higher. The flute is one of the most popular instruments used in concert bands and one that can be used in many different musical genres. Its popularity, size, and sound make it a favorite in bands, orchestras, jazz and instrumental groups. The flute is also well recognized as a solo instrument that can produce both delightful melodies and harmonies.
Part of the woodwind family
the flute is played by blowing air across a mouthpiece to create sound. While commonly played in orchestras or marching bands, flautists have also been featured in contemporary music.

In fact, its original name is violoncello. This is a direct descendant of bass violin. And as a part of the family, it is one of the biggest bowed stringed instruments having about a dozen of players in a symphony orchestra. Cellos are a standard part of orchestra. Famous musicians had made use of cello concertos having a solo cellist as the center of the orchestra and the other instruments serve as accompaniments.

Music Discovery for children 3 to 5 Years Old
Our Music Discovery Group is for children between the ages of 3 and 5.
The Music Discovery Group class meets once per week for 30 minutes. It is designed for a small group of up to 5 students. The group can be a great choice for those who may not be ready for private lessons. It may also be a good fit for those who would like a more social setting. While some students are ready to go in to private lessons after just one 10-week session, others stay in the group for more sessions.
In this lively class
students will learn the basics of music notation and rhythmic patterns. Students will learn this through the use of singing, movement, rhythmic instruments, and flashcards. Singing songs as a group not only strengthens the voice, but also aids in pitch accuracy and listening skills. In like manner, listening activities and call-and-response games will help the student get familiar with core rhythmic and melodic concepts. Also, it will help them develop ear-training skills. In the long run, all of these skills will benefit your musician in any future study of music.
The Music Discovery Group
coupled with individual instruction, works well for many young children. Because of the range of activities that keep their attention, a private 15-minute piano lesson can be scheduled in addition to the weekly group. With one-on-one training, students will learn about proper posture, sound production, technique and musicality. Parents are encouraged to sit in during private lessons, but are asked to stay in the waiting area for the group class.
In order to enroll in the class
an assessment is required. It is free, and you can schedule an assessment with one of our coordinators: here.
