Medical Massage for the Relief of Soft Tissue Chronic Pain
Medical Massage for the Relief of Soft Tissue Chronic Pain
Soft tissue chronic pain can be addressed and treated using medical massage modalities. The massage therapist, Gail Russo, will assess the condition or pain, and recommend a treatment plan along with a number of visits necessary to accomplish the goal of relieving pain. For massage therapy to be successful, it is critical to recognize that "frequency" of treatment is the key to overcoming the pain condition. Soft tissue does respond to massage therapy, but not in one single session. Gail explains the physiological effects of treatment and educates her clients on the benefits of massage in treating the condition. If you suffer from soft tissue chronic pain in the following regions, please consider massage therapy an "all natural" method of relieving pain.
Common Injury Conditions
Please Note: Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical treatment or medications. It is recommended that you work with your Primary Caregiver for any condition that is not soft tissue related. The massage therapist does not diagnose illness or disease, does not prescribe medications, and spinal manipulations are not part of massage therapy.

Massage Treatments
Therapeutic Medical Massage and Orthopedic Assessment
Russo Massage in Cary NC, specializes in therapeutic and orthopedic massage. Therapeutic massage is primarily used to treat specific regions of chronic pain, i.e., neck, shoulders, back, abdomen/upper chest, hips / glutes, upper and lower extremities. As a result of the massage therapist's assessment based on the client's input of how their body feels and what they notice, the and use a variety of precise massage strokes that may be a combination/blend of the techniques used in deep tissue/myofascial release, neuromuscular, trigger point therapy, and passive Joint Mobilization stretches in an effort to relieve muscle aches and pains and/or to remove toxins in the muscles that result in knots or fibrous muscle tissue. The goal of the treatment plan and techniques used should result in improvement over a period of time.
Myofascial Release Massage (Deep Tissue)
For relief of muscle aches and pain. The massage therapist applies deeper pressure strokes that will specifically address individual muscles. Used to relax and stretch the muscles, fascia (connective tissue), and related structures. Relieves deep muscle aches and pains. Note: - Good bodywork is not about mashing - a good massage therapist will ask you to provide feedback on your tolerance for the amount of pressure used. The proper amount of pressure will prove to be effective. (A good bodywork session should not be a painful experience)
Neuromuscular Trigger Point Therapy (NMTRP)
Trigger Points result in muscles which have been traumatized by accidents, injuries, occupational stress, and overuse. Once a Trigger Point develops, it can remain for life unless properly treated. Pressure is applied to the "trigger points"," (exquisite tender points where the muscles have been damaged) to alleviate muscle spasms and pain. When pressure is applied to the Trigger Point, the chemical/pressure cycle is interrupted, which helps to stop the contraction and the pain in the muscle.
Sports Massage
Often used for professional athletes and other active individuals, sports massage can enhance performance and prevent and treat sports related-injuries. used for event preparation conditioning, pre and post event treatment/massage.
Kinesio Taping
The Kinesio Taping method was founded by Dr. Kenzo Kase over 30 years ago. It is used from initial injury from acute to sub-acute, chronic to rehabilitation stages of clinical presentations. It is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Kinesio tape is Latex-free and can be worn for several days. It is safe for all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.
