Chianti Classico, Poggio delle Orecchie Perse, 2021
The Gerbais family has called the Aube home for four generations. Many of the vineyards in this region were planted after World War II, lending a younger energy and continuing evolution to its vignerons. Its southern location within Champagne and proximity to Burgundy has resulted in Burgundian winemaking influences applied to Champagnois traditions. The complexity and nuance in this cuvée is due in large part to their inclusion of Pinot Blanc, one of the seven traditional Champagne grapes seldom used today.

Featured Vintage Champagne
A. Bergère, "Millésime", Brut, 2013
$246.00
There is no wine region in the world that expresses its terroir as wonderfully as Champagne. Adrien Bergère, the third generation of Bergères to make wine under the family name, has set his focus on elevating the Vallée du Petit Morin to the top of Champagne's growing regions. He immediately began to experiment when he took over in 2014–vinifying all the parcels separately to better understand the diversity of the plots, giving way to a parcel-based line of Champagnes. He introduced small amounts of barrels to analyze his wines in different vinification styles and see what best expressed the terroir. The Vallée du Petit Morin runs along a hilly fault line, which Adrien feels offers a rich fruitiness yet a particular, inherent freshness: a balance of all parts to find harmony. An undersung yet spectacular vintage, the 2013 shows incredible tension which are built to last for a lifetime.

Pierre Gimonnet, "Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay", Blanc de Blancs, 2016
$294.00
As one of the founding members of the "Special Club," Didier Gimonnet and a handful of other Champagne grower-producers banded together in 1971 to pool marketing resources for their top cuvées—the only way they could compete with the giant "Doms" and "Dames" in their world. Gimonnet chooses to highlight Chardonnay in his "Special Club" bottling, making one of the most terroir-driven expressions of citrus and minerality coming out of Champagne.

White Loire
Featured Saumur Blanc
Guiberteau, 2023
$98.00
In 1996, Romain Guiberteau, a flailing law student, decided to return home to reestablish his family's domaine in Saumur. He reclaimed his family's holdings, many on the famous hill of Brézé. Under the tutelage of Nady Foucault of Clos Rougeard, he began releasing wines that have quickly become some of the most sought after in the region. This bottling of Chenin Blanc from vines ranging ten to ninety years old truly shows off the purity of the Loire Valley's mother grape.

Alsace
Featured Alsatian Wine
Riesling et al., Marcel Deiss, "Engelgarten", 2018
$121.00
In a region as old as Alsace, where winemaking dates back to the second century, innovation is usually uncommon and at worst, frowned upon. But that's exactly what makes the wines of Marcel Deiss so exciting (and what makes the man himself so controversial). Instrumental in changing Alsatian labeling laws to allow for blends, he believes more in showcasing the unique qualities of vineyards planted with multiple grapes over the individuality of a single grape. This field blend (of Riesling, Pinot Blanc, and other Alsatian varietals) from the sparse, gravelly soils of Engelgarten is a must for any white wine lover looking for something new.

Featured Chablis Premier Cru
Jean-Marc Brocard, Vau de Vey, 2022
$129.00
"If you ever needed one, Chablis is the almost perfect manifestation, and proof, of terroir itself." - Peter Dean, 2017 Peter Dean's quote speaks directly to the Premier Cru vineyard of Vau de Vey, one of the most beautiful in Chablis. Located directly across the Serein River from the seven Grand Cru vineyards, Vau de Vey shares the same limestone-clay soils as the Grand Crus. As if that weren't enough, the final wine is in the hands of the impassioned Jean-Marc Brocard, whose years of sustainable farming add even more depth & complexity to the final product.

The Wines of Domaine Raveneau
Domaine Raveneau
François Raveneau's wines gained a cult following decades ago, with wine lovers around the world jumping at the chance to get their hands on anything available. The Domaine has barely grown in size since the initial purchase of a handful of small vineyards within the best Premier & Grand Cru land right after establishment in 1948. Still farmed by François' sons and granddaughter, these small plots combined only equal about eight city blocks and exist on land more coveted than Fifth Avenue.

Featured Bourgogne Blanc
Henri Boillot, 2022
$114.00
Family-owned since 1885, the estate was originally named Domaine Jean Boillot, Henri's father. In 1996, Henri split off from his father and extended his range of appellations whilst dedicating himself to sourcing grapes only from the best growers. After his father retired in 2005, Henri reacquired all the original family parcels and brought them together under his name. His Bourgogne Blanc, drawing from the richness of his Meursault holdings to the linear minerality of his Puligny-Montrachet parcels, is the perfect introduction to this family's long winemaker tradition.

Featured Grand Cru Producer
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti
No winery is more famous or produces such legendary wines in Burgundy than Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The domaine has been co-owned by two families, the de Villaine's & the Roch's/Leroy's, since 1942. Aubert de Villaine, a humble, charming & highly intelligent vigneron, who is acutely conscious of the history of the domaine & the responsibility he bears towards it, has been the manager & face of the domaine since 1991, when Lalou Bize-Leroy left to focus on her own domaine. Often abbreviated as DRC, the winery makes some of the most exclusive wines in the world, and 98% of their vineyard holdings are in Grand Cru vineyards, including their 2 "monopoles", La Tâche & Romanée-Conti. DRC's wines, for those lucky enough to have tried them, are regarded as the pinnacle of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay.

White Bordeaux
Featured Bordeaux White
Château La Garde, Pessac-Léognan, 2022
$129.00
Although it's primarily known as a stand-alone grape variety, Sauvignon Blanc can also make a great blending partner under the right circumstances. Some of those circumstances include growing in the pristine gravel soils of Château La Garde within Pessac-Léognan. Others include pairing up with the exceedingly complementary blending partner, Sémillon. The soil contributes to the wine's powerfully pure aromatics, while the Sémillon serves to fill out the midpalate & body, creating a whole that is more complex, more intriguing than the sum of its parts.

German Riesling
Featured German Riesling Spätlese
Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Bollig-Lehnert, 2020
$63.00
Let's break it down: "Bollig-Lehnert" is a tiny family-run winery that own 10 acres in the impossibly steep Mosel River region. "Piesport" is a small town between two 90-degree bends in river. Within Piesport is a vineyard, "Goldtröpfchen," which means "droplets of gold." "Spätlese" indicates that the grapes were picked a little late, meaning this wine has a honeyed sweetness balanced by zippy citrus and slate.

Featured Grüner Veltliner
Veyder-Malberg, "Liebedich", Wachau, 2022
$105.00
Not only does Peter Veyder-Malberg farm an area of Austria so steep that grape growing families who have been there for centuries are sadly quitting on a yearly basis, but he goes beyond organic viticulture by constantly cultivating his working relationships with the myriad creatures who call his vineyards home. From mushrooms down to the microorganisms growing on the roots of the vines, his extreme care comes through his wines via layered minerality, electric citrus, and a unique savoriness that only Austria's finest Grüners can achieve.

Girolamo Russo, "Nerina", Etna, 2023
$111.00
Etna is unlike many other wine producing regions in the world. Most notably the home of Europe's highest active volcano, Mt. Etna, one would not consider this to be an ideal place to grow grapes—dangerously steep, rocky soils, unpredictable weather, and the threat of volcanic eruption at any point. Very few are up for the challenge of making wine under such extreme circumstances. The work of these daring vintners combined with the region's indigenous white varietals result in wines like "Nerina:" energetic fruit and fresh minerality with an elegant structure—making Etna Bianco the next big thing for Burgundy lovers.

Southern Hemisphere White Wine
Featured Australian Chardonnay
Chardonnay, Leeuwin Estate, "Prelude", Margaret River, 2022
$89.00
As one of the first five wineries in Western Australia's now world-renowned Margaret River region, the Leeuwin family is among the country's winemaking royalty. But don't let that fool you—this Chardonnay is not meant to be sipped pinkies-up from the finest crystal (although you certainly could drink it that way). This is a working man's nobility story: the Leeuwin's transformed their cattle ranch into a world-class winery roughly 50 years ago with the help of Napa's own Robert Mondavi. Fast forward half a century and not only is the family still at the helm, but they're also still making wine accessible to anyone and everyone.

Chardonnay, Catena Zapata, "Adrianna Vineyard - White Bones", Mendoza, 2021

The wines are made from seven vineyard sites that are meticulously chosen for their unique soil types, aspect, and cool climate to preserve freshness and intensity. Chardonnay lovers rejoice: Rhys is here to stay.

Featured California Sauvignon Blanc
Presqu'ile, Santa Barbara County, 2023
$72.00
This small, family-run winery located in California's Central Coast is quickly becoming renowned for their fresh, Old World-inspired wines, and this Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. In a full break with traditional American convention, no new oak is used for fermentation or aging; instead, they use neutral oak and even concrete. These vessels, along with the distinctly cool climate of Santa Barbara County, give this Sauvignon Blanc a fresh, vibrant, Sancerre-like feeling.

Featured Napa Valley Rosé
Robert Sinskey, "Vin Gris of Pinot", Los Carneros, 2023
$108.00
Dr. Robert Sinskey founded his winery in Napa Valley in 1988 with a vision to make balanced wines intended to pair well with cuisine. Sinskey reminisces that wine culture at the time felt more like a competitive sport where bigger is always better, and high scores from critics drove the American wine market. The winery's trademark delicate style is displayed perfectly in this rosé carrying the traditional French moniker, "vin gris", which indicates a light and refreshing Provençal-inspired wine.

Featured Beaujolais
Morgon, Marchand-Tawse, 2021
$76.00
Originally from Quebec, Pascal Marchand traveled the world before settling in Burgundy in 1983. After completing his oenological studies, he quickly rose to be a defining figure in Bungundian winemaking and a pioneer of biodynamics and sustainability in the region. Very early in his career he made the decision to transition completely to biodynamic principles in viticulture, holding a very firm belief that great wine comes from healthy vineyards. He became the only the second non-Frenchman to lead the winemaking team at Comte Armand. In 2011, in a partnership with fellow French-Canadian Moray Tawse, of the eponymous Tawse Winery in Niagara, Maison Marchand-Tawse was born. Combining their expertise they offer a snapshot of Morgon that showcases some of the best that Beaujolais has to offer.

The wines of Domaine Alain Gras and Saint-Romain are truly unique. The small village is perched above the Côte de Beaune on limestone cliffs lending minerality, elegance, and freshness to the grapes. Gras has been working passionately since 1979 with great respect to the land, developing wines that have become the standard-bearer for the village. Now joined by his son, Arthur, in his quest to become a reference point for all of Burgundy.

Vincent Girardin, "Les Vieielles Vignes", 2015
$211.00
Striking out on his own at the age of 19, Vincent Girardin took lessons from the history of his 17th-century family domaine and blended them with his own forward thinking viticultural practices. He developed longstanding relationships with growers who shared an exacting standard of perfection all over Burgundy to showcase the most important element of this historical place: the individuality of each terroir. Vinified from 65-year-old vines in the heart of Chambolle-Musigny, these wines are the model of elegance and refinement from a striking 2015 vintage.

Featured Grand Cru
Clos de Vougeot, Jean Grivot, 2018
$653.00
Grand Cru Burgundy may be the most profoundly titled wine of them all. Sacrificing none of the delicacies or nuances while also featuring depth & concentration, the classification is understandably hard to live up to. This unique site receives a more significant downdraft of air which keeps the vines cooler and yields a wine of exceptional elegance and balance. These wines perform best when allowed to purely represent the vineyard with little to no bells or whistles.

Featured Bordeaux
Clos Margalaine, Margaux, 2014
$168.00
Philippe Porcheron acquired this small garagista estate in 1998, located just outside the tiny village of Margaux. The Romans had referred to this place as "Marojallia," the name bestowed on the château. The "grand vin" debut in 1999 and made waves as on of the Medoc's first "Garage Wines:'' no bells and whistles, just good juice in a no-frills bottle. Renowned consultant Michel Rolland joined the team with the 2001 vintage and the estate continues to be one of the best boutique producers in Bordeaux. Located right down the street from first-growth Château Margaux and second-growth Rauzan-Ségla, "Clos Margalaine" is the second label of the estate, and this "little" producer packs a big punch with quality, elegance, and finesse.

If there were a name synonymous with the hill of Hermitage, it would be that of Jean-Louis Chave. The family began making wine in 1481, passing down wisdom through generations to create some of the most perfectly balanced wines in the world. Traditionalist to the core, the key to this perfect balance of his wines is the remarkable blending skill, which is showcased in all of his wine from the top Hermitage to his thoughtful Côtes du Rhône.

Featured Chianti Classico
Cigliano di Sopra, 2022
$109.00
Hailing from the village of San Casciano in the heart of Chianti (the very same as the famed Antinori "Tignanello" bottling), it's safe to say these hills are capable of world-class Sangiovese. It only helps that the husband and wife team behind Cigliano di Sopra pay such careful attention to their wine that their third family dog's name is Alice III. The way they make their Chianti—with whole-berry fermentation and neutral oak aging—allows the terroir of this small village to shine. This is not your average Chianti Classico.

Moccagatta, 2020
$126.00
Once kept in the shadows of the family business in patriarchal Italy, recent societal changes are bringing forth a new generation of women in wine. Among these rising stars is Martina Minuto, who serves as enologist for Moccagatta and is the fifth-generation proprietor of the estate. Perhaps it's the nearly 40-year-old Nebbiolo vines, or the female touch, but this is Barbaresco at its finest: with elegance, finesse, and substantive depth.

The Catena family not only has strong roots in Argentinian winemaking, they can also boast some of the very first. Nicola Catena, an Italian immigrant, planted his first vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina in 1902. Now in its fourth generation as a family-run winery, each family member has played a major role in enhancing the reputation and quality of Argentinian wine. This 100% Malbec is sourced from the estate's own 30-year-old, high-altitude vineyards in the Uco Valley, a prestigious sub-region of Mendoza.

US Pinot Noir
Featured Pinot Noir
George, "Hansen", Russian River Valley, 2022
$116.00
George Levkoff has quite the impressive résumé: a graduate degree from University of Chicago, a decade spent as a US bond trader, which he abruptly quit to start an internship at Williams Selyem in order to explore his true passion for wine. The best part? He is the least pretentious, most caring farmer you'll ever meet. He makes Pinot Noir that reads Burgundian on the nose and Sonoman on the palate, only makes three cuvées, and, even more incredibly, only makes 200 or fewer cases of each. Who better to create and personally bottle your Pinot Noir than the same person who cares for the vines year round?

US Cabernet Sauvignon
Featured Cabernet Sauvignon
Caterwaul, Napa Valley, 2022
$149.00
With a resume that includes the likes of Revana, Rivers-Marie, Maybach, and the cult legend Schrader, everything Thomas Rivers Brown touches turns to gold. His Caterwaul project is focused on sourcing only the highest quality fruit from 100 barrels spanning over 12 AVAs of Napa Valley. The result is a Cabernet Sauvignon laden with opulent blueberries, blackberries, and cassis, finishing with savory elements of sweet tobacco, baking spices, and cocoa.

The result is an easy-drinking, lighter bodied, food-friendly wine that fares well with a variety of cuisines.

Featured Junmai Ginjo Sake
Yamada Nishiki, Tensei, "Song of the Sea", Kanagawa
$97.00
Hailing from the same province as the famous Japanese woodblock art, "The Great Wave of Kanagawa", toji Tetsuro Igarashi brews refined and refreshing sake from this seaside region of Japan. Crafted from the "king" of sake rice, Yamada Nishiki, and supported by the rich underground water of the Tanzawa Mountains, this Junmai Ginjo has no added alcohol–just pure flavor from the starch at the center of these intensely polished rice grains. The delicate flavors and round texture are a great pairing with a variety of dishes, a perfect introduction to high-quality Japanese sake.
In 1979, the venerable French restaurant publication Gault & Millau set out to settle a score started three years prior between French and American wines. They created the World Wine Olympics, and to everyone's surprise, Trefethen's 1976 Chardonnay was declared "The Best Chardonnay in the World," beating out Burgundy's top producers. After the French winemakers and press expressed their extreme outrage, a rematch was held and overseen by Maison Joseph Drouhin and incredibly, Trefethen's 1976 Chardonnay, tasted blind, was again declared the winner. Why not try a piece of improbable wine history? (Just don't tell the French.)

Featured Rosé Magnum
Palette, Château Simone, 2021
$488.00
Although this rosé hails from Provence, it is anything but the typical pale, delicate poolside sipper the region has become known for. This iconic wine is renowned for its deep color, impressive balance, ability to age, and the wildly unique blend of grapes--mainly Grenache and Mourvèdre with a few star appearances from long-forgotten ancient varietals like Castet and Manosquin.

$124.00
Tokaji: a dessert wine so nuanced and impressive that Catherine the Great set up a garrison in the town of Tokaji to protect its delivery. Emperor Franz Josef sent Queen Victoria bottles religiously for her birthday. Louis XV referred to it as the "Wine of Kings". Beethoven, Peter the Great, and Thomas Jefferson preferred it to all other sweet wines. Don't you want to join this company of characters?
