Barolo, Damilano, "Lecinquevigne", 2020
$77.00
What better way to start your journey through a wine list than with Barolo: Italy's "King of Wines"? Founded in 1890, the Damilano estate is now in its fourth generation and continues to produce some of the most powerful and compelling wines of the region. The "Lecinquevigne" name refers to the 5 famous vineyards from which their old-vine Nebbiolo grapes are grown: Bussia, Le Coste, Castellero, Ravera, and La Cavourrina.
Timorasso, Colli Tortonesi, La Colombera, "Derthona", 2022
$94.00
From vines nearly lost among the sea of peach and apricot trees and forests of chestnuts ridden with white truffles, Timorasso has risen to become one of Italy's most noble varieties in the 21st century. Since 2000, winemaker Elisa Semino has been a key figure in leading the grape's Renaissance, being locally named the "Queen of Timorasso". Conjuring the je ne sais quoi of Burgundy, a rich mid-palate à la Chenin Blanc, with the exotic perfumed notes of Viognier, Elisa's expression of Derthona displays notes of white peach, tangerine, alpine mountain herbs, and almond flowers finishing with a salty minerality which will have you begging for another sip or bottle...

Nascetta di Novello, Elvio Cogno, "Anas-Cëtta", 2023
In the Collio region of Friuli Venezia Giulia come some of Italy's finest white wines. The La Ponca estate, found in the hamlet of Scriò, is poised to become one of the great producers of the region. Luscious forests in the foothills of the Alps surround their terraced vineyards that abut the Slovenian border a mere twenty miles from the Mediterranean Sea. The winery takes its name from the "ponca" soil type it sits upon. This soil consists of layers of sandstone alternating with marl and silt that give their wines a distinctive minerality. La Ponca produces a wide range of varietals indigenous to the region with a focus on the famed Friulano. The Friulano grape is typically poured in trattorias throughout Friuli as an aperitif served with prosciutto and cicchetti. La Ponca's expression is a different story that lends notes of flint, pear, and apricots, with a scent of wildflowers and mint in the distance. Where this wine truly shines is its signature textural mouthfeel begging for another sip.

Biancolella, Ischia, Antonio Mazzella, 2024
$91.00
The island of Ischia, the largest of the Phlegrean Islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea, is about 20 mi. offshore from Naples. It is roughly 6 miles east to west and 4 miles north to south, entirely mountainous, and is famous for its thermal gardens created by its volcanic activity. Antonio Mazzella crafts this singular wine from what he describes as "vertical vineyards" on the steep hills mere feet from where the land meets the sea. Brimming forth with sun-kissed freshness and radiant texture, not many wines can convey a "sense of place" quite like this one, just try to not be swept away to an island paradise after one sip.

First released in 1998, Failla focuses on all types of Vitis vinifera from Syrah to Viognier. Chardonnay, though, holds a special place in the hearts of winemaker Ehren Jordan. The estate boasts eight different bottlings of the grape, with their Sonoma Coast cuvee being the gateway expression of multiple vineyard sites. The plot of land responsible for producing the majority of their Sonoma Coast bottlings lies on Olivet Road bordering the famed "Olivet Lane Vineyard." This vineyard site has been creating expressive and elegant examples of Chardonnay since 2013. Ehren is always one to experiment with different grapes, winemaking practices, and vineyard sites. We hope you enjoy one of California's finest bottlings of Chardonnay.

Penna-Currado, "Curra", 2023
$158.00
After leading the celebrated Vietti winery for over 35 years, Luca and Elena launched this more intimate venture in 2023, centered around a beautifully restored 16th-century cascina in Serralunga d'Alba and select vineyard parcels across the Langhe and Derthona. Luca oversees winemaking with his renowned enological expertise, while Elena's talent for hospitality and commerce shapes the wines' journey beyond the cellar. Their beautifully distinctive labels, illustrated by artist Giuseppe Stampone, capture the spirit of a new beginning and the enduring allure of Piedmont.

Featured Nebbiolo di Langhe
Aldo Conterno, "Il Favot", 2021
$114.00
Aldo Conterno is often called the "King of Monforte," one of the true icons of Barolo. But not every masterpiece has to wait decades in the cellar. Il Favot is his love letter to Nebbiolo in its youth. Sourced from younger vines on the family's historic estate, the wine is aged in French oak for just the right touch of softness and spice. Instead of the brooding austerity you might expect from Barolo, here you'll find pure vibrancy: wild cherry, raspberry, rose petals, and a whisper of sweet spice. The tannins are silky and inviting, making this a Nebbiolo that charms immediately rather than testing your patience.Think of Il Favot as Nebbiolo dressed for the evening — graceful, approachable, and ready to dance across the table with your meal.

Featured Barolo
G.D. Vajra, "Albe", 2021
$118.00
In Barolo the sun stays a little bit longer in the sky, hovering all day, keeping the grapes and their leaves at full attention. Its path from East to West seems to just take longer, an expression known regionally as "Albe", where the wine takes its name. It is the magic of Barolo, the unexplainable, that takes the thinned skinned Nebbiolo into a complex, tannic, food driven wine that has no rival in terms of originality.

Featured "Le Menzioni" del Barolo
RPM PRESENTS: "LE MENZIONI" DEL BAROLO
In 2010 the Barolo region was officially demarcated and recognized for its 181 "Menzioni" (think "Premier Cru" and "Grand Cru" classifications in France). These designations celebrate the soulfully expressive characteristics of each site's diverse soils, varying altitudes, and unique grape growing typicity. Outside of the Cote de Nuits in Burgundy, there is perhaps no other region that is studied and dissected in greater detail than the zone of Barolo. We are excited to highlight these "terroir-driven" wines from some of the greatest producers and vintages.

Barolo Riserva
Featured "Le Menzioni" del Barolo Riserva
Bussia, Parusso, "Vigna Rocche", 2013
$512.00
Barolo Riserva is the crown jewel of Italy. A rarity made by select producers in only the best of vintages, one doesn't need to wait for a special occasion to pull the cork-- the act of opening a bottle in itself becomes the celebratory event. Requiring over five years of aging before release, this Barolo Riserva offers layers of flavor that transcend what you might find in any other wine.

Barbaresco
Featured "Le Menzioni" del Barbaresco
Bricco di Neive, Cigliuti, "Vie-Erte", 2019
$178.00
Since the founding of Cigluiti in 1964, the winery's focus has always been quality over quantity. In Piedmont before the 1980s, it was sacrilegious to practice "green harvesting" or cutting grapes to concentrate the quality of the remaining grapes. Renato of Cigliuti was told by his neighbors he was throwing away money for green harvesting, and in his first vintage, he produced 300 bottles. Today, he and his daughters stand as one of the premier producers of Barbaresco that no one has ever heard of. Their Bricco di Neive hails from a small plot known as Vie Erte just outside of the town of Neive. Renato's approach has always been to let the terroir speak for itself in the glass through his mantra, "this blessed land." His Vie-Erte does just that by lending notes of bright red fruit, orange peel, white pepper, and mint that scream nuance and finesse.

Riserva, Produttori del Barbaresco, "Don Fiorino", 2016
Angelo Gaja is the man credited for bringing the small commune of Barbaresco out of obscurity. His influence has changed the way the world views Italian wine to this day. A master of Nebbiolo: the austere, tannic grape once considered only quaffable after decades of bottle age, Angelo saw its potential as a world-class wine. Despite pushback from his peers, he employed new (and what most considered outlandish) practices both in the vineyard and the winery to promote freshness and elegance in his wine. The story of Gaja is a truly fascinating one, but is best told through a glass of his stunning Barbaresco...(hint, hint).

Featured Chianti Classico
Istine, 2022
$82.00
Novel thoughts don't come to mind when thinking about Chianti. Originally delimited in 1713 by Cosimo Medici III the original region between Siena and Florence is now known as: Classico. While the wines will always be intertwined with history; the Istine estate embraces their traditions while marrying modern technique and equipment in both the winery and the vineyard. The result is a wine that displays the qualities that made the region famous over three hundred years ago combined with luxury and balance from the lessons of modernity.

Orcia Riserva, Fabbrica, "Tinia", 2020
$153.00
There is a new age of producers in lesser-known areas of Tuscany that are taking Sangiovese to new heights. Tim Manning, UK expat and winemaker in Tuscany for decades, is a leader of this new age at Fabbrica Pienza. Fabbrica is in the Orcia DOC, just past the border of the famed region of Brunello di Montalcino. Fabbrica's Sangiovese is grown at high elevation on mineral-rich sandy-clayey soils reminiscent of soils in Crozes-Hermitage. Tim's winemaking is both classical and boundary-pushing, utilizing whole-cluster fermentations, very long macerations, and a mixture of concrete and large oak for aging. The Tinia Orcia Riserva Sangiovese, taken from two of the estate's best parcels, exudes finesse with haunting aromatics of rose petals, crunchy red cherry, strawberry, and fresh Tuscan herbs. This wine is the perfect balance of accessibility with a thought-provoking nature.

In recent years, top Brunello di Montalcino producers have sought high-altitude vineyards to capture Sangiovese's typicity in warmer vintages, purposefully preserving its varietal finesse. Le Ragnaie is fortunate to possess a coveted plot on some of the highest elevation vineyards, where they harness the sun's rays for a formidable and refined wine with fresh acidity – a rare achievement today. Le Ragnaie's Brunello embodies traditional flavors of sour cherry, wild strawberry, saddle leather, and tilled earth. The resulting wine is a more pronounced, luxurious bottling that only the region of Montalcino can provide.

Featured Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
Ventolaio, 2016
$257.00
Brunello di Montalcino has risen to be the premier interpretation of Tuscan Sangiovese. At the Riserva level, it ranks among some of the highest aging requirements of any other table wine in the world. By law, it may not be released until the 6th year following harvest, and is mandated to mature in oak for a minimum of two years. Full in body, a Riserva designated Brunello expresses all the traditional flavors one expects from the varietal with an emphasis on black cherry, chocolate notes, and a dark earthiness. The resulting wine is a more pronounced, luxurious bottling that only the hill of Montalcino can provide.
Lying just beyond the beaches of the Tyrrhenian Sea is the region of Bolgheri, known as the "Golden Coast." Here, you will find Italy's most luxurious and collected wines that rival those of Napa Valley and Bordeaux. Sandwiched between the greats of Le Macchiole, Ornellaia, and Guado al Melo is the small family-run winery of Giovanni Chiappini. Unlike most transplant producers seeking the more recent wine buzz of the region, the Chiappinis have been tending to this land since the early 1950s. Since their inception, they have been humbly cultivating their land of olive groves, vegetable gardens, fruit groves, and, most importantly, vines. Chiappini's bottling "Felciaino" masterfully blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc into a powerful yet elegant style that stands up against the best of Bolgheri.

Featured Amarone della Valpolicella
Musella, 2018
$162.00
Just outside of Verona lie the hills of Valpolicella which is home to one of Italy's greatest wines: Amarone. Composed of a blend of special, native varietals, Amarone's claim to fame is a result of its unique production method, appassimento. Directly translating to "withering" or "fading", appassimento refers to a special grape-drying process that concentrates the sugars and flavors in grapes destined for Amarone. Full-bodied and powerful with ripe fruit, these wines deliver a unique expression of Northern Italian wine.

Veneto Reds of Quintarelli & Dal Forno
Featured Producers
Quintarelli vs. Dal Forno
DRC vs. Leroy...Lafite vs. Latour...Conterno vs. Gaja... the wine geek's equivalent to a political debate (notwithstanding a little BS) in a quest for the single greatest expression of a particular wine. In Valpolicella, two producers indisputably reign at the top of the quality pyramid: Quintarelli and Dal Forno. Both producers commit maniacal attention to fruit selection, sorting down to the individual berry if necessary to achieve the best extraction of flavor possible. Quintarelli's genius in the cellar is carried out through more traditional methods of èlevage, while Dal Forno boasts one of the most technologically advanced wineries in the world. Preference in the resulting wines can be polarizing depending on the taster, but the quality of both is unquestionable. Where Quintarelli masterfully draws elegance and otherworldly aromas out of his Amarones, Dal Forno excels in achieving depths of concentration winemakers in Napa only dream about.
Just south of the Swiss border lies the sensational region of Valtellina. With vineyards terraced upon impossibly steep mountains, Valtellina is home to the best Nebbiolo outside of Piedmont. Here Nebbiolo is called "Chiavennasca" and produces one of Italy's most sophisticated reds. Positioned at a near 90 degree incline, mechanized farming is not an option here forcing grape farmers to look after each grape by hand. With high risk comes great reward in Valtellina and with one of the prized vineyards named Inferno, it becomes apparent how grape farmers feel about working at these heights.

Cristiana Tiberio and her brother, Antonio, have transformed their small winery in the quaint village of Cugnoli, Abruzzo, from barren land to star status in under 20 years. With stints at producers like Jacques Selosse in Champagne, Nicolas Joly at Coulee de Serrant, Egon Muller in the Mosel, and multiple producers in Chablis, it is no wonder that Cristiana's wines are some of the best in Italy. She specializes in single vineyard, old vine, and special clone bottlings that express a distinct side of Abruzzo that not many capture. Her Archivio is meticulously crafted from massal selected 67-year-old vines from four special biotypes of Montepulciano. Archivio, translating to "archive," is a homage to these biotypes, and each is named after the Tiberio family's dogs: Tione, Quarmari, Diana, and Otto. The final wine produced exudes a distinct silky texture with tart raspberry and savory spice mingled with violet inner florals.

Featured Etna
Etna Rosso, Girolamo Russo, "'a Rina", 2021
$88.00
Famed winemaker Giuseppe Russo of Girolamo Russo has been instrumental in the recent surge in popularity of Mt. Etna wines. In his early years, Giuseppe had his eyes set on his career in music and literature. However, in 2004 he returned to his hometown of Passopisciaro to tend to his father's 18 hectares of 100-year-old vines planted to varietals native to Mt. Etna. He rose to fame within the region after studying under some of Etna's greatest producers: Frank Cornelissen, Marco de Grazia of Tenuta delle Terre Nere, and Andrea Franchetti of Passopisciaro. As a classically trained pianist, Giuseppe is no stranger to precision and focus. His spellbinding wines of extreme elegance and depth can only be created on the volcanic terroir of Mount Etna. His "'a Rina" bottling exudes bright red berries, sweet spice, and a faint hint of tobacco displaying the true essence of Mt. Etna.

Pax, "Alder Springs", Mendocino County, 2021
$124.00
Pax Mahle has always been focused on producing great wines from great vineyards. From the onset of his career he channeled his energies into sourcing the best fruit he could find and, if he couldn't, would farm it himself. After the success of his initial project, Pax and his wife Pam founded the eponymous Pax Cellars. Utilizing much of the same land for this label, he started to produce an entire range of wines focused on elegance, freshness, and Old World techniques. All his grapes are hand-harvested, foot-crushed, and fermented whole cluster–a nod to his favorite producers in the Rhone–and he has continued to innovate by farming Chenin Blanc, Trousseau Gris, Gamay, and Vermentino. Alder Springs is a site he has been working with since 2005 and produces exceptional fruit around the town of Laytonville, more reminiscent of the Rhône he draws inspiration from.

Featured Vin Santo del Chianti
Felsina, 2016
Literally translated "Holy Wine", Vin Santo has a rich history dating back to the heart of the Renaissance era. Using the unique passito method, grapes are dried out on straw mats to concentrate sugars and amplify complexity. Legend has it that a 14th century friar once used leftover Vin Santo from Mass to heal the sick. We're not guaranteeing a miracle, but might suggest that a glass of this 'enlightened spirit' can cure what ails you
