Rosebud Espresso” started here on Capitol Hill in 1991 by Jerry Peterson and was known as Capitol Hill’s first coffee house. In December 1993, Robert Sondheim and John Busey purchased what became “Rosebud Espresso and Bistro.”Over the years, people have often asked us about the origin of our name “Rosebud.” For those who have seen the 1941 film classic, it’s a secret until the end of the film, but to the younger generation, it is perhaps a mystery. There are many hints throughout our cozy restaurant and lounge that may help to answer these questions. It’s a childhood symbol of the main character in the film for some and for others it depicts a scandalous Hollywood affair – open for speculation even to this day.Whichever version of the story you believe, we welcome you to our quaint neighborhood spot that, after 22 years, continues to be committed to fine food and spirits served in a warm, comfortable environment. As I now carry on the tradition at Rosebud Restaurant and Bar, I am delighted to have such dedicated team of employees and loyal patrons. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or new ideas as I welcome community feedback. With everyone’s support, Rosebud will continue to remain Capitol Hill’s casual local venue for so many people offering excellent cuisine, cocktails and culture.
