Myofascial Release/John Barnes Method
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, self treatment instruction, enhancement of strength, improved flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.
Deep Tissue
This type of massage disrupts adhesions, elongates shorten muscles, stimulates weak muscles and works to restore normal tissue fiber and length. Pressure ranges from medium to deep.
Neurokinetic Therapy
Stop chasing pain and find out what is causing your pain through NKT. NKT finds the dysfunctional movement patterns and resets the neural pathways in the brain. Your body has learned that abnormal is normal and has created compensation patterns to help you. Although, the body has created these compensation patterns it does not mean these patterns are correct. The body will do what it needs to do to keep you as functional as possible even if that means recruiting muscles to do another muscles job. Through NKT we look for facilitated muscles and inhibited ones and the patterns created between the two. This is done through muscle testing. NKT can be done as a stand alone service or incorporated into your massage session.
Reiki
Is a healing practice that originated in Japan used to facilitate balance in the mind, body and spirit. It is non-invasive and is facilitated through light touch and performed usually on a massage table. Reiki treats the whole person and sessions create balance moving you towards wellness helping you feel and function better.
Bio Mat Therapy
Is a FDA medical device that uses Far Infrared Rays, the healing power of Amethyst crystals and Negative Ions to restore balance and harmony in the body. Far Infrared Rays penetrate 6 inches into the body benefiting muscles and all the cells including blood vessels, lymph glands and nerves. These rays revitalize the biological function of the cells to increase blood circulation, promote perspiration, relieves neuralgia, backaches and arthritis and eliminates toxins. Since FIR waves can penetrate deeply into our body it can warm our body from inside out and stimulate our system. Amethyst is known for its power to detox the body from harmful elements and also produces far infrared rays. Negative Ions help change an acidified body to an alkaline body. It is effective for stiff shoulders, headaches, insomnia, chronic constipation and allergies.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a safe, hands on approach that uses gentle sustaining pressure to release restrictions in the connective tissue allowing for better movement and decrease in pain. Over our lifetime we encounter traumas whether it be breaking a bone when you were a child or having bad posture due to your job. These traumas create restrictions in the connective tissue ultimately squeezing the area like a straight jacket over time. These restrictions hold memory and begin to pull and cause tension in other parts of the body (Think of a pull in sweater). If these restrictions are not addressed pain, discomfort, misalignment and dis-ease occur. Myofascial Release is beneficial for the following conditions but not limited too:
Chronic Pain
Headaches
Sports Injuries
Fibromyalgia
Scleraderma
Reynaud's
Jaw Pain (TMJ)
Migraines
Back Pain
Carpel Tunnel

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue seeks to restore normal tissue fiber and length and focuses on the deeper layers known as the connective tissue. It is performed slowly and deeper than a Swedish Massage. Deep tissue in therapeutic in nature. This type of massage disrupts adhesions, elongates shorten muscles, and stimulates weak muscles. Deep muscle is beneficial for releasing toxins stored in the muscles which cause inflammation and block nutrients and oxygen from entering the muscles causing them to become ischemic. The stored toxins and inflammation create "knots" in the muscles creating irritation, pain and stress. Deep Tissue Massage works to breaks up and release the built-up toxins by loosening the muscles and restoring normal muscle tone. With the toxins released, blood and oxygen can circulate to the muscles producing a hyperemia (the red that appears when getting a massage). After your massage you will need to drink plenty of water to flush the toxins out of the body and keep them from recirculating. Pressure ranges from medium to deep and at times can cause some discomfort but should never be extremely painful. You should always communicate with the therapist about your pain level when receiving a deep tissue massage. "It is with great pleasure that I recommend Roots of Vitality. A high stress job coupled with a demanding schedule has made my monthly massage with Kelly a key part of my overall stress relief and well-being strategy. Kelly goes out of her way to ensure my experience is top-notch every time. She seeks to create a therapy plan to ensure I always get the most out of our sessions. She always leaves me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. In closing, I highly recommend Roots of Vitality for all of your therapy needs." -Amy Cameline.
Reiki
You may have heard about Reiki and may even know someone who has tried it but are still wondering what it is and if it may even help you? Reiki is a healing practice that promotes balance in the body helping you feel and function better. It is a non-invasive technique that can be safely used with medical treatments and prescriptions. People who receive Reiki treatments often report feeling more centered and less stressed. Whether you are looking to relieve stress, find relief from the side effects of chemotherapy, improve your sleep, manage or decrease pain, feel less anxious or depressed, Reiki may help you. Most people who receive Reiki treatments report Reiki has improved their life in more ways then one. Reiki is performed via light touch and at times slightly off the body. Clients are fully dressed and lying comfortably on a massage table. The practitioner will scan your body to detect differences in your energy fields and to find imbalances. As imbalances are found the practitioner will place their hands on or off the body to help restore balance to the area. Clients may feel hot or cold sensations, tingling, or an overall sense of deep relaxation as they receive Reiki. Reiki is beneficial for everyone to receive especially due to the hectic and busy lifestyles most people lead. Reiki is safe for everyone including; infants, children, adults, geriatrics and pets. Testimonials: "Reiki has helped me manage my migraines! I feel that I can deal with everyday stresses better now too!" Lindsay Bailey My name is Bruce Corwin. I'm a Harvard graduate, corporate executive and long-time believer and practitioner of alternative mind-body techniques. I did my first session (and several subsequent sessions) with Kelly this winter. I was so inspired by Reiki and Kelly that I wrote a blog post about it that was read by thousands of people. I found Reiki to be the most dramatic and powerful psychological healing remedy I've ever experienced, hands down.
Medical Massage
Medical Massage is a results oriented therapy and is focused on specific treatment areas based off a diagnosis from a doctor. Treatment is formulated to resolve issues and restore normal functioning. Prior to treatment you will be evaluated thoroughly by your Massage Therapist to develop the best course of action. Medical Massage does not refer to a specific technique in fact it employs many. Since, medical massage is directed by a physician, some insurances will cover your therapy sessions.

I have known Kelly for years, and she is a very kind and compassionate person. When I saw she was doing massage, I called to make an appointment. I live with CHRONIC pain mainly caused by fibromyalgia. I have been to numerous massage therapists, chiropractors, and pain management programs through the years, and never found relief from the pain as I did when Kelly worked on me. She is simply amazing with a God given talent. After she worked on me, I was pain free for over a week. That is unheard of for me. I highly recommend her services to people with or without pain. I will continue to see her for healing.

I had my first appointment with Kelly yesterday. Her knowledge of the human body and how she was able to get into those tight spots to help me with some leg, hip and shoulder issues was amazing, unlike any massage therapist before. I immediately knew I was coming back so I booked two more appointments. I feel great today and I slept like a baby. Thanks Kelly. See you soon.

I was incredibly pleased by my massage from Kelly. I have been to many therapists, and Kelly is right up there with the best of them... She has an energy that is warm and refreshing. She is passionate about her work, and holds herself to the highest standards. Her massage is ideal for deep tissue or therapeutics, which is perfect, for all my aches and pains, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. Plus her knowledge of herbs and supplements, as well as Reiki and essential oils, compliments her passion as body worker. Whenever I am able to get a massage from Kelly, it is a treat I look forward to! Enjoy!

It's hard to find that Therapist that can just get it right with your stressed out body. Kelly is that person that can knead it away. She is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff. Go see her, you won't regret it.

I was extremely satisfied with my experience at Roots of Vitality. The service was excellent and my therapist Daniel was great - very knowledgeable and kind! The main reason I made an appointment was that I have had a lot of pain in my neck and back, and then earlier this fall, I sprained my neck and back during a work-related incident. Daniel recommended that I see a chiropractor, and I plan on following his advice, as well as returning to Roots of Vitality in the future. My back felt brand new when I left! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

What My Ankle Pain Taught Me.
I was moving through my day as usually when I noticed my ankle bothering me. I made a mental note of it and went on with my business. Over the next few weeks it yelled at me some more and I made more mental notes. Months went by and this pesky ankle pain got worse. It was affecting me in all areas of my life. I started not walking as much, which I love, could not run after my daughter at the park like I used to and so forth. Being the massage therapist I am I started assessing the situation. What muscles are too tight? What is over stretched? How are my body mechanics when working? The questions went on and on and on. I put a plan together to get this fixed. I would go and get it massaged, have the chiropractor look at it and started to strengthen it through PT. Nothing seemed to do the trick! As time grew on I am became more and more frustrated with this as anyone would. I was frustrated with the pain but what was frustrating me even more is that every where I went for help put me into a compartment and did not look at the whole picture. What do I mean? I mean this; the massage therapists loosened my tight muscles, the chiropractor adjusted my ankle, the physical therapist gave me strengthening exercises, the manual therapist released and reset muscle firing patterns, the personal trainer gave me exercises for whole body training but what each area failed to do was to look at me as a WHOLE until now! I recently was introduced to Original Strength training. I watched the videos, read the book and put the resets to action. Within 3 days of doing the resets my ankle pain was gone. I was moving better, my posture improved and I could walk with out pain! What happened!? The original strength resets got me moving again and reconnected to my inner strength that I had lost. Now I am able to do the strengthening exercises PT gave me, get massaged and the muscles will stay balanced, the firing patterns will hold and so forth! It took me on a year long journey to find what was missing. With that all being said there is not a one trick pony, a quick fix to ease it all. If we do not move well and I mean back to the basics well how can we expect any of the other modalities to work properly? All of those modalities are great! They all had great tactics at addressing the issue presenting but with out assessing how well I moved none of them could address my underlining issue. My advice to you is do not give up on your journey to be pain free and to seek out a practitioner that is well trained in a variety of areas. Now who wants to go for a walk?
