Historic Rivercene, on the National Historic Registry, is a large mansion built by the industrious riverboat baron, Captain Joseph Kinney. His fleet carried passengers and freight from New Orleans to Montana. A single trip netted Captain Kinney $50,000, which he used to build and furnish Rivercene. The home has eleven imported marble fireplaces, 300-pound walnut front doors, a hand-carved mahogany railing for the grand staircase, and eleven bedrooms. The State of Missouri copied the architectural plan of Rivercene for the present Governor's Mansion.
