Chianti Classico
Much can be written about this hallowed ground of vines. The first mentions of chianti wine go back to the 1300's. Around 1700 cosimo III de' medici, grand duke of tuscany, created the 'lega del chianti', comprised of farmers in the villages of gaiole, castellina, radda & greve in chianti. While chianti has historically been a blended wine, sangiovese, italy's noble grape variety, has always been the star

Massoferrato
Massoferrato is made from grapes grown on the marzovilla family estate. They purchased a property in impruneta in the 1990's, with a dream to one day make wines of their own. They planted 3 hectares to sangiovese exclusively. After waiting for the vines to mature, they decided to make their first wine in 2008. All the wines, including the white, are made from sangiovese. The massoferrato rosso is raised in custom twenty hectoliter barrels made from slavonian oak. A 'selezione' or reserve wine was eventually made in 2014. The name' massoferrato', or iron boulder, comes from the iron-rich rock which overlooks the vineyard

Montalcino
Often considered the mecca of sangiovese, montalcino has a relatively short but resonant history. In the 1860's clemente santi started experiments there with fine clones of sangiovese coming from the chianti hills. This was the birth of brunello di montalcino. Now there are over 200 producers on the mountain and these wines are considered some of the finest in the world
