Types of Massage
We have studied various modalities to provide you with a tailored, therapeutic massage experience. During your massage, your therapist may incorporate any number of techniques, including Trigger Point Therapy, Orthopedic massage, Lotus Hands, and Connective Tissue Massage, among others. During your massage and after, our hope for you is that you gain more awareness of the natural healing process your body is going through. With this in mind, your therapist may make suggestions to support your continued health, such as stretches, improving your posture while you sit at your desk, or simple changes in your product or dietary choices. We hope to work with you on an ongoing basis to promote and maintain your health and well-being.
Swedish Relaxation Massage
Most people are familiar with this type of massage. The goal of Swedish Relaxation Massage is to bring whole body relaxation with long strokes, directing blood to the heart. There are a total of five strokes attributed to this style: effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, friction and vibration. Swedish Massage has been shown to reduce pain, inflammation and joint stiffness and to increase circulation. It uses light to deep pressure.
Trigger Point Therapy (Neuromuscular)
A technique created by Janet Travell, Trigger Point Therapy deactivates trigger points that may cause local pain and referred pain and other sensations, such as headaches, in other parts of the body. Manual pressure, vibration or other methods are used to reduce pain in your connective tissues. This method is different than acupressure, reflexology, and pressure point massage.
Connective Tissue (Myofascial Release)
This manual massage technique stretches the fascia and releases bonds between fascia, integument and muscle. It involves a slow, firm manual pressure in various directions or skin rolling. The goal is to eliminate pain and increase range of motion.
Deep Tissue Massage
This technique is used to relieve severe tension in the muscle and fascia. It focuses on the muscles beneath the top surface muscles. Deep Tissue is recommended for athletes, or others who are involved in intense physical activity, and people who experience consistent pain or have been injured. It is not uncommon to have pain replaced by other muscle soreness the day or two after a deep tissue massage. It is important to communicate with your therapist what you are feeling when receiving deep tissue massage.
Pregnancy Massage is a therapeutic massage tailored to meet the expectant mother's unique needs. To provide comfort and safety for the mother and baby, the mother will be positioned carefully during the massage using pillows and cushions. Pregnancy Massage has been shown to relieve stress, reduce swelling in arms and legs, and relieve pains in the muscles and joints. Pregnancy massage is a popular complementary therapy during pregnancy for back pain and other aches when pain relieving medication is limited. Certain massage techniques (such as deep tissue massage) and areas of the body should be avoided during pregnancy. Please provide 24 hours notice if you would like a pregnancy massage.
Chair massage is great for short massages, for those who are unable to lay on a table, for sporting events, and at offices for improving health consciousness or showing staff appreciation. It is more convenient than traditional table massage because chair massage can be done in almost any location and clients remain fully clothed. Chair massage boosts energy, alertness and productivity while reducing stress and muscle tension. It also addresses repetitive use injuries obtained from daily activities. Structural Integration, designed by Dr. Ida Rolf, is a 10-session form of deep tissue bodywork dedicated to lengthening shortened fascia (soft tissue) and realigning the body. This process reduces chronic pain and discomfort from the human structure while helping restore balance. Each session is dedicated to a different part of the body, systematically lengthening the soft tissue while putting the body back in relationship with itself and the field of gravity. In any area where repetitive motion occurs or where the muscles are confined in a "holding pattern", the body will eventually lay down collagen fibers; although these fibers are an important part of healing injuries, their construction can cause muscle layers to be "glued" together in a chronically shortened state. Spot work can also be done on trouble areas without going through the 10 session series. Structural Integration uses slow, deep strokes to create friction (heat) and literally lengthen and release short tissue, re-aligning the blocks of the structure and ultimately obtaining balance throughout. This bodywork also greatly increases range of motion and joint mobility, relieves chronic pain and helps to create a body free from the restraints of everyday life.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It works with the flow of your body's energy through working the seven chakras of the body. You will find yourself in a great state of relaxation and peacefulness which stays with you long after the session is over.
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach for relieving tensions deep in the body. It is helpful for addressing migraines, headaches, fibromyalgia, scoliosis and many other conditions.

James, Most therapeutic massage.
I have been getting massages for years and I have never had a massage as therapeutic as the one I received at Resolution Massage by Andrea. I have recommended her to everyone I know and they all say the same thing.
Mary, Great for those who travel.
After a lot of travel, sitting for hours on planes & sleeping on a few different beds I couldn't seem to rest well at night once I was back in my own bed. I decided to get a massage to see if that would help and WOW! It was exactly what I needed. Andrea is great at catering to your specific need. She really seeks to have you leave feeling the difference.
Beth, Helps relieve elbow and shoulder pain.
I have to say, I've been to a variety of massage therapists, but Andrea tops them all! A couple of years ago I had shoulder pain and she fixed it. Then I had elbow pain (tendinitis?) and over the course of three visits, I was healed. Today I just hurt, and now I feel great! She really knows exactly where to focus and gives a great deep tissue massage! Call her, you will be happy!
Anthony, Second to none.
I've had massages for several years from a number of massage therapists from Seattle to New England (and in between), and Andrea is second to none. I was fortunate enough to find her through Google. First off, she provides a very therapeutic and relaxing massage. She is also very attentive and genuinely wants to know what areas warrant the most attention. In short, I highly recommend her, and think she is the best massage therapist in Madison.

Acupuncture is a complementary medical practice that has been used for centuries to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, emotional and mental conditions. It entails stimulating precise points on the body with a very fine needle, which is manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation. Acupuncture needles are solid (not hollow) and extremely fine — much thinner and smaller than those used for vaccinations. Your acupuncturist will quickly and gently tap the needle into your skin, which typically gives a small "pricking" sensation that is not painful. You may feel a rush of warmth to the areas being treated, or a calming feeling of heaviness. Electroacupuncture is used to amplify the effects of acupuncture. Tiny electrodes are attached to the fine acupuncture needles and a small current is run between two needles. You may feel a slight tingling sensation, or nothing at all. Electroacupuncture stimulates the body's natural pain killers, reducing inflammation and the "stress hormone," cortisol. It is now recommended by the VA as an alternative to opioids. Ear acupuncture is the stimulation of acupuncture points on the outer ear. It is used to treat stress, depression, headaches, allergies, addictions and pain. Treatments can be given while you are still fully clothed and sitting in the office.
Cupping is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that uses small "cups" and heat on the body to focus blood flow in an area. Focused blood flow helps your body by flushing built-up toxins through the lymphatic system. Cupping is a deep tissue massage, much like Gua Sha, but works deeper in your muscles and fascia. After a session using cupping, you may have circular marks on your skin from the cups. These marks will go away within 24-48 hours. Post treatment is the same as Gua Sha.
