"Tom is wonderful- hands down! I spent a fair amount of time on Yelp searching for a reputable massage place. I sent out several emails to see which would give me the best response. Tom's answer was by far the best- he took time to answer my questions and concerns I expressed in my email. This put me at ease that he was legitimate and could help me out. I'm only 24 and found out a few years ago that I have scoliosis- which goes a long way to explain my almost chronic neck/shoulder/back pain. I've had massages in the past and been to chiropractors in the past but none of them really helped much (nor did they notice my scoliosis). I was concerned I might run into that again- but I definitely did not. Tom sits you down before even starting the session to talk about your goals and how your body feels, etc. It is great to have a check-in so that he can tailor the massage even more to help you get the most relief. I've only had 2 massages with Tom so far, but I've noticed a difference and intend to have more! His massages are definitely worth every penny! Plus he is full of great advice about healthy habits and fun to talk too!"
"So glad I met Tom when I did. Finding out that I have 2 herniated disks in my neck that was giving me excruciating pain in my back, shoulder and arm, I didn't know where to turn but to the ER and hospitalization. Finding Tom has kept me and is currently keeping me out of the Emergency room now. With his massage techniques he has relieved so much of my pain, not saying I am fixed, I will be going in for surgery but for now his therapy has given me freedoms that I haven't had in months. I am almost 100% pain free now and I know its because of the care and expertise that Tom has taken to get me here. I now have a weekly schedule to keep me where I am at and will continue to see Tom after my surgery to make sure I maintain and never get back to where I was. Thanks Tom, I appreciate everything you've done. You're a lifesaver!!"
"When I first moved to San Diego in 2005 I was in dire need of help with my aching back, neck, forearms, and wrists. Perhaps by a stroke of luck, or the universe was listening to me that day, I ended up as a client of Tom Annese. O……M……G….! To say this man has magic in his arms would be an understatement. Not only was he able to bring tremendous relief to my problem areas, his technique and skill helped uncover the main source of my issues. Through shoulder and neck therapy, Tom has made it possible for me to continue working, relieved my pain, and helped improve my overall well-being tenfold. While traveling, I've had appointments with other massage therapists, and none have ever even come close to the skill, knowledge, and level of professionalism Tom provides with each visit. He carefully listens to me describe issues I'm having, provides good advice and guidance, and works tirelessly to help alleviate the pain and discomfort I bring to him. Tom also makes it very easy to book appointments online, has great prices, and has a relaxing office that's convenient for me to visit. The welcoming, quiet, and beautiful facility at Re.kin.ect is just an added bonus to the outstanding physical therapy that Tom provides."
No words can fully express how excellent Tom is at his job. You need to go for a massage with him to experience it for yourself. I have been going to Tom for about 10 years and he is truly phenomenal. I suffer from migraines and severe tension in my neck. Often when the migraine medicine and Chiropractor can't get rid of the pain, I will go to Tom and he knows exactly what to do to make me feel better. His pricing is reasonable. I highly recommend him!
Tom has provided massage therapy for me since 2010, beginning at his previous location. I had never had a professional massage and didn't realize that it could be associated with therapuetic treatments until Tom explained the potential benefits and his approach. I was recovering from an accident and had muscle tightening that I thought I could ignore until I realized it was a distraction preventing me from focusing at work and enjoying my lifestyle at home. Tom listened to my unique situation and catered his treatment accordingly. I returned several times until I felt that my situation had improved and stabilized. Over time I returned to Tom when knots or tensions slowly crept back, and each time I wondered why I didn't go more often. I think it was because I tried other massages, and though they were relaxing I felt that they were standardized and lacked the personal approach that Tom gave. I returned to Tom's new business location recently for preventive therapeutic massage to keep ahead of problems before they develop, and again he catered his treatment to my new needs with a genuine desire to help. I would recommend his business and any therapist whom he recommends without hesitation.
Tom at re.kin.ect has saved me money. I used to see a chiropractor and massage person every 4 to 6 weeks, but now I only see Tom for a deep tissue massage. Tom is very knowledgeable of the body. I have recommended him to many people.
TYPES OF MASSAGE
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue, or fascia. This type of massage focuses on the muscles located below the superficial muscles. Deep tissue massage is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity (such as athletes), and patients who have sustained physical injury. It is not uncommon for receivers of deep tissue massage to have their pain replaced with a new muscle ache for a day or two as a result of the intense, deliberate and focused work. These new muscle aches are part of the healing process. The term "deep tissue" is often misused to identify a massage that is performed with sustained deep pressure. Deep tissue massage is used to treat particular muscular-skeletal disorders and complaints and employs a dedicated set of techniques and strokes to achieve a desired measure of relief. It should not be confused with a "deep pressure" massage, which is one that is performed with sustained strong, occasionally intense pressure throughout an entire full-body session, and that is not performed to address a specific complaint.
Amma Therapy is an extremely specialized form of massage therapy based in Taoism. Dating back about 5000 years to the period of the legendary Yellow Emperor of China, Amma Therapy combines deep tissue manipulation with the application of pressure and friction to specific points. While acupuncture inserts needles into the energy pathway to stimulate and move the energy, the Amma therapist relies primarily on the sensitivity and strength of the hands. Amma Therapy has been proven to be an effective and powerful therapy for people of all ages for the promotion of health and wellbeing, the prevention of illness and for the treatment of specific diseases. Amma Therapy can help with but not limited to stiff neck and shoulders, lower back pain, muscular pain, indigestion, constipation, headaches, premenstrual syndrome, anxiety, poor sleep patterns and stress. There are advanced treatments for headaches, rigidity and pain in the neck, spasm and intense pain of the neck, upper back muscles, acute and chronic sinusitis.
Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage the muscles. The five basic strokes of a Swedish massage are effleurage(sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading or squeezing), friction and vibration/shaking.During a Swedish massage, there is less emphasis on working out serious adhesions or knots in the muscle tissue. The therapist won't push your pain limits in order to get the muscle to release. Sometimes people may even fall asleep. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, lowering stress levels, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis.
Massage during pregnancy offers undeniable physical benefits throughout every prenatal stage. In most cases, massage is perfectly safe and can help the mother-to-be relieve general body aches, pains, and tension that her body is going through. Receiving massage throughout a pregnancy can help in many ways including but not limited to the following: Stimulating blood flow (may prevent anemia) Increase muscle tone and flexibility (alleviating muscle cramps and spasms) Stimulates lymphatic system (may help prevent/reduce edema) Relieve headaches Help alleviate morning sickness Reduce fatigue Alleviate backaches and leg cramps Alleviate ligament pain Relieving aches and pains Alleviate stress on weight-bearing joints Learn relaxation skills Release physical and emotional tension Research has shown that women who receive massage while pregnant may have easier deliveries, a reduced chance of post-partum depression, and regain their bodies more quickly. While receiving a pregnancy massage, you are positioned on your side using specially designed bolsters and pillows to allow the therapist access to your back. Likewise, more specially designed pillows are used to position you in a semi-reclined position so you can receive work on your belly and anything else that you would normally have massaged if lying flat. No matter the position, you will always remain properly draped except for the area being massaged. At Re.kin.ect Therapeutic Massage, we require a release from your doctor stating that it is ok to receive a prenatal massage. You will not be eligible to receive your first prenatal massage until after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
