The challenges experienced in a yoga practice help to calm the mind, create a sense of focusand bring the practitioner to the present moment. Our teachers encourage the students to notice sensations, thoughts, and stay present throughout class. This helps create a long lasting connection to the unseen elements of life and to feel more aware and present. Our students experience improved quality of sleep, a more joyful daily life, enhanced endurance, flexibility, focus, as well as healthy weight loss. Issues such as back pain, emotional stress, and feelings of self-confidence can be greatly increased through the discipline ion our yoga classes. We honor yourYouhave individual goals, beliefs, and needs. The classes are geared to enhance your quality of life, both physically and spiritually.
The Healing Power of Yoga
The many demands and responsibilities of modern life can be stressful. Now more than ever making time for self care, mindfulness and fitness is essential. The practice of yoga is both restorative and transformational. Our instructors are extraordinary in that each one has a deep, personal reason why they are involved in the practice of yoga, and has chosen to share their knowledge to help others experience the healing power -- physically and personally. Living in Los Angeles tends tobe stressful, busy, and burdensome. Achieving more strength, clarity, and focus, while easing the stress of everyday life can make every part of your existence more rewarding. The practice of yoga aims to remove impurities of both mind and body.

Yoga Classes: Strength Beyond the Physical
It is well-established that there is more to life than the physical. While it is important that we care for our bodies and keep them strong, flexible and healthy, the practice of yoga reveals deeper layers of the self so that we can explore a more meaningful and mindful journey through life. Practicing yoga asana certainly develops strength and power physically but with that comes a greater sense of peace, harmony, and engagement with the world at large, as well as in our inner lives. Course Curriculum Breakdown
Throughout the 200 hour training, trainees build a deep understanding of the foundations that support transformative asana practice. There will be a focus on the following simple foundational principles, actual time spent may vary however the time allotted for each section is as follows:
Anatomy and Alignment for Yoga
30 hours In-Class, 12 Home-Study. We believe in the importance of alignment and place a heavy emphasis on precise alignment for effectiveness and safety. We provide you with a practical, accessible and necessary knowledge of human anatomy. The objective for our anatomy course is that you know what you are talking about when you tell your students what to do with their bodies. It is here that you learn how to work in asana and why it's important to be aware of risk and how to avoid it with confidence.
Philosophy
18 hours In-Class, 12 Home-Study. Yoga can happen in many ways but no matter what form it takes we want you to understand how to keep it rooted in authentic yoga. For a physical practice to be called a yoga practice rather than just exercise, there are a few requirements. After completing this course you will know what makes what you practice and teach something called yoga and how it connects to the system as laid out in the ancient philosophical texts. We've created a user-friendly application of the yoga philosophy that transforms physical poses into tools for learning how to find your own authentic truth, peace and limitless potential and how to teach your students to do the same.
Teaching Methodology
25 hours. Knowledge of yoga, anatomy, alignment and philosophy is wonderful and will help you find peace and a deeper practice in your own life but that knowledge alone does not translate into a powerful teacher. We will teach you our time tested specific methodology for planning and delivering classes to your students in a way that inspires them deeply both on and off their mat. We believe in intelligent sequencing, commanding use of language and techniques for holding space that create an experience for your students that will keep them coming back to your class and help them live their yoga off the mat.
Practice
65 hours. These tightly-focused, themed practices will be held on each training day, the details of each type of asana and breathwork are studied. As you discover how the practice feels, experience your own challenges and triumphs, you become better prepared to teach people how to navigate their own yoga journey.
Practice Teaching
18 hours. In order to be as prepared as possible for the real thing, actually teaching students after this training you will be required to teach a class in order to graduate, which will be observed by our faculty and followed with ample constructive feedback, to gain actual teaching experience by employing the tools acquired during the training.
Independent Study
20 hours. With these tools, graduates can teach confidently and creatively in their own unique voice while staying true to the deep purpose of yoga practice.
Graduation Requirements
If you are searching for a deeper understanding of yoga whether you are interested in becoming a teacher or wish to study more of this ancient practice than what is explained in your favorite class about philosophy, alignment and anatomy then this program is for you. At Red Diamond Yoga we believe that yoga is a transformational journey to the self through the physical work of the asana practice but there is so much more to discover about the other limbs of the 8 fold path. Asana is just one of those limbs and we know that taking a deep look at this ancient wisdom will deeply inspire you both on and off the mat and change your life in ways you cannot imagine. Learn how the asana practice affects the movements of the mind, how to become the witness of your thoughts, let go of what doesnt serve you and believe in your limitless potential. Find your voice, connect deeply to your practice, and transform the way you see the world in this well rounded 200 hour program. You will leave with an enhanced perspective and the tools to teach public classes should you chose to take the seat. To graduate this course successfully, the following 3 objectives must be met:
Attendance Policy
One-hundred percent attendance or authorized make-up is required. If you miss a class, you may make it up in a future or concurrent training for no cost or you may hire a Red Diamond Yoga faculty member to teach a private lesson at their regular rate for such. In some cases, a missed class can be made up with a special assignment.
Teaching
There will be practice teaching throughout the course however at the end, you must teach a well-rounded flow class to your peers, the sequence for which will be written by you. This teaching final will occur the last weekend of the training.
Anatomy Assessment
This happens at the end of the course. The exam covers the content of the training. All of the information you need to pass the exam is contained in this manual. If any section is failed, its remediation will be decided by the lead trainer at the time.
Philosophy Assessment
This happens at the end of the course. In contrast to the anatomy exam, the questions asked are provided ahead of time.
Meet the Teachers
Sheryl Utal (Co-Owner)
Sheryl is the co-owner of Red Diamond Yoga, and truly believes in the power of yoga to heal. She discovered yoga over 10 years ago, while suffering from many common physical and emotional issues. She fell in love with the practice, and while building physical strength she began to awaken. She learned first-hand that practicing yoga creates awareness of the self and provides the tools to heal, physically and emotionally. Practicing yoga has been transformational for her. Out of her own healing journey, her compassion for others grew. Sheryl became compelled to share the gifts that yoga has given her with as many people as she could. After over a decade long career in Real Estate Development, she became a yoga teacher and founded Red Diamond Yoga in West Los Angeles in 2013 with her Mom, Arlene. The intention for this studio is to be a place where everyone can heal, practice finding gratitude, self-love and seek to reach their full potential. Red Diamond Yoga was born from an open heart and a genuine desire to share what Sheryl truly believes in, the power of vinyasa yoga to build awareness, confidence, concentration, coordination, strength, a sense of self – and most importantly, learn how to let go. Sheryl hand selects the most talented teachers she can find to teach at Red Diamond based on their compassion and expertise. Sheryl leads the community along with her Mom and her wish is that all students who practice and study yoga at Red Diamond feel empowered, learn about acceptance, compassion, how to take responsibility for their thoughts, and the importance of living in the present moment. From time to time Sheryl returns to teach classes but these days she stays busy running the studio and enjoying her own practice.
Laetitia Guyot
Laetitia received her 200-hours Yoga Alliance certification in Venice Beach, California, including prenatal, therapeutic and restorative yoga. She started practicing yoga to heal and relax her own body from Martial arts competitions. She immediately fell in love, decided to give more space to yoga in her life and eventually became a teacher! Laetitia later decided to deepen her knowledge in therapeutic yoga and obtain a 'Yoga for Cancer' certification in New York allowing her to work with cancer patients and survivors. She teaches to share a passion and help people to find their inner peace and joy. In a fast-paced world, through a dynamic Vinyasa flow, she invites her students to practice compassion, stillness and to focus on breathing. Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement," and Vinyasa yoga is a series of poses that will move you through the power of inhaling and exhaling. Vinyasa movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like. As a martial artist you will sometimes see her adding a little bit of it into her classes!

Class Descriptions
Intermediate Flow
These classes are designed to help you build on the foundations you learned in basics classes. You will deepen your understanding of alignment, build strength, flexibility and balance. These classes are always exciting because in every class you learn and do something new. Our teachers hold space for you to embark on an inner journey as you move through the postures you will find a deeper connection to yourself and practice letting go of what doesn't serve you. We do suggest taking some beginner classes prior to establish a strong foundation.
Midday Flow 10$
This one hour mixed levels vinyasa class will offer something for everyone. Expect an intelligently-sequenced class that keeps the focus on mindfulness and breath-work as you explore your own limits. You are encouraged to walk the line between effort and ease, it's not a one-size-fits-all practice, feel free to modify!
Yoga Basics
This Class is perfect for students new to yoga or anyone who wants to get back to basics! All Yoga Basics classes are designed to give you the time and support to understand the proper alignment of Yoga asanas (postures) and breathing technique. You will begin by focusing on the basics, but it won't stop there. In this class you explore the physical poses and the awareness that builds while you practice them. Yoga Basics class teachers are experts at helping you master form, understanding how to breathe, and helping you build confidence in the postures while exploring the wonders of Yoga.
Power Hour
Enjoy a power yoga style flow designed to build heat, energize and detoxify the body. Poses are instructed with precise alignment and modifications are offered to help students practice within their ability level. Expect core work, twists, balancing postures and breath work to round out this invigorating practice. Some yoga experience recommended.
Breathwork
Breathwork is an "ancient healing technology" and one of the most transformative healing modalities available to you. It is a meditation practice that allows you to connect directly with 'prana' or 'chi', the Life Force that breathes and animates you. By relaxing the brain and calming the mind, you are able to connect with your energy, have it flow through you, raise your vibration, to help you find calm & clarity ...all you have to do is BREATHE! Bring your yoga mat and wear comfortable clothing. 'Uncle' Robert Bahedry is a certified Breathwork Meditation practitioner of the 3-part breathing technique, a 3000-year old Pranayama active mediation. Robert stumbled upon the practice in 2008 at a time in his life when he was in search of a healing modality that would compliment his burgeoning yoga practice. It continues to be a life-changing experience for him. Come and discover how, by simply breathing consciously and with intention, you also may release energetic blockages to help reach your true potential.
Dynamic Deep Stretch
This class is designed to release tension, align and create space in the whole body. A slow but deep practice targeting chronically tight areas such as shoulders, back, hips, hamstrings and quads. Deep Stretch is an accessible class that everyone needs – athletes, advanced practitioners, weekend warriors, first time yoga students and everyone in between. Tight muscles can cause imbalance and pull the body out of alignment which can lead to injuries and chronic pain. Recommended for first time yogis, people who sit a lot, do a lot of weight training, endurance sports, and repetitive motion sports.
Silent Ear
In silence, come sit and receive acupuncture in your ears. Think of it as group therapy with non verbal communication as you join only in presence and commonality to de-stress and recharge. Points used to increase parasympathetic nerve activity, in other words to de-stress and create a balance of the whole body while releasing the potential for joy, letting go of sadness, fear and anger. Come as often as you need: weekly or biweekly to enhance your own journey whether it's stress or pain management or working to strengthen your mental and emotional health. You can also combine it with group acupuncture/meditation class to learn how to meditate then come during the week for Silent Ear to enhance your practice.
Yoga Sculpt
This class complements your regular yoga practice while boosting your metabolism and pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights. A total body workout Yoga Sculpt classes are set to energizing music and designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group. Free weights are added to a vinyasa yoga sequence, creating resistance and intensifying each pose. Strength-training exercises such as squats, lunges, bicep and tricep curls are incorporated to build lean muscle mass, burn fat, and increase metabolism. You will see visible results in your body. It is recommended that you are comfortable practicing at an Intermediate before taking a Yoga Sculpt class.
Yin Yoga
A restorative class designed to release tension and calm the nervous system. With the gentle support of props, students passively stretch and energize the deep connective tissues of the body, open the joints, and restore alignment. Practiced primarily on the floor in resting postures, Yin Yoga compliments a more active (Yang) practice because it improves flexibility, ease and balance. The passive physical exploration of Yin Yoga helps to release tension and is also beneficial for those recovering from injury or trauma. Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of deep relaxation.
My First Yoga Class
If you are completely new to yoga and/or movement in general and you want to learn the practice in a more detailed, broken down way, this class is for you. It will be a continuous series of 4 classes allowing you to learn about the different yoga postures and how they relate to each other so that you can jump into any yoga class. (We would recommend starting with basic's right after) you will know what the main poses are and how to execute them. This class will also teach you the moon, sun A and B salutations that are commonly found in vinyasa yoga classes. You will also learn how you can modify these sequences to your needs. It will be a bit more of a workshop-y class with some flowing at the end to get you prepared for what you will experience in our other classes at the studio. Even if this class is targeted for very beginner yogis, everyone is welcome. It can be a great class for yogis who want to refine their practice and understand their body and poses better. Since this class works in a series of 4 classes repeated each month, it is recommended to do commit to the full series, but if you miss a class on month, you know that you can catch that missed class again the following month.
Acupuncture & Meditation
Take your meditation practice to the next level with acupuncture. WHAT is it? ACUPUNCTURE: Used for thousands of years and based on a theory of meridians or pathways in the body. Using single use, sterile, thread like needles at specific points on the body to access energy in those meridians. With ear acupuncture we tap into a microsystem of the whole body for a balancing effect. This particular treatment, NADA has been used since the early 80s starting in NYC to treat heroin addicts coming off methadone. Since then, it has been used for PTSD, disaster relief, stress, sleep, depression and any time to calm and balance the nervous system.
Pregnancy Yoga
In this class all aspects of pregnancy are covered including yoga postures specifically tailored for strength, balance, and renewal in a rapidly changing body. Yogic breathing techniques are included in preparation for labor and delivery. Simple meditations and inspiring reflections on ancient and modern ways of birthing and mothering are shared for increased confidence. Moms are encouraged and supported in building enriching community that they can connect with on and off the mat.
Our mission is to inspire people find their strength and potential by teaching the philosophy and physical poses of yoga and to help people facilitate inner peace, physical fitness, spiritual growth and to cultivate a sense of community.
Our vision is to fill the world with the light and warmth of yoga and in doing so we strive to provide transformative and rejuvenating yoga experiences for you on your path toward your highest potential. We believe in the power of yoga to enhance the experience of life and we encourage you to explore different styles of yoga, body movement, breathwork, and meditation. At Red Diamond Yoga everyone is welcome, individual differences are honored and non-judgment is practiced to guide our students toward the most open, balanced and spiritually abundant life. We value quality instruction, safety and cleanliness. We invite students of all ages, physiques, abilities and backgrounds into our studio where we welcome everyone with open arms, compassion and acceptance.
