What are the Entry Requirements for Your Playcare/Boarding Program
Your dog must be a small dog.
By that, we mean a dog that weighs less than 35 pounds, when fully grown. A fully grown dog that puts on a few extra pounds after admittance into our program, due to living the good life, is fine with us.
Your dog must be spayed or neutered.
Your dog must be on a flea prevention medication such as Frontline, K9 Advantix, Sentinal, etc.
Your dog must also be flea-free to attend playcare/boarding. If your dog has fleas, we will call to let you know that your dog will immediately be given a bath to remove the fleas with a flea bath at the standard rate for a bath. This is to protect the other dogs and keep Pupcakes Playcare a flea-free zone. Note: a flea bath only removes an infestation and will not prevent future infestations.
Your dog must have a current vaccination for Rabies, plus DHLP-P.
We strongly recommend your dog be vaccinated for kennel cough, and we do require your dog be 100% free of kennel cough, or any other contagious disease before entering the Pupcakes building.
Your dog must get along well with other dogs and people at all times.
There are no circumstances in which aggressive behavior will be tolerated. It is okay if your dog is shy as long as that shyness does not lead to aggressive behavior.
Your dog must be at least 8 months of age.
This requirement complies with state guidelines. We do allow and encourage talking to your vet about when your pup can join us. If your vet says yes, then, great! The earlier socialization occurs, the healthier for your dog. (Please contact us with any exceptions.)
Your dog must be in reasonably good health, meaning we must be able to take care of your dog without veterinary assistance.
Additionally, your dog must not be carrying, at any time, a contagious disease or parasite. A dog that develops a contagious disease or parasite after admission into playcare will have to stay home until he is well.
A dog with less than full mobility is acceptable
As long as the dog can cross a room without the need to be carried.
Are Daycare packages available?
Yes! There are various packages to meet you and your dogs daycare needs. Please note that they never expire. Although all packages are non-refundable, they are transferable to another dog in the immediate family, or as needed in the future.
FAQS
No puppies?
Puppies, which we, (and the state,) define as any dog less than 8 months old. We do want your dog to have all the adult vaccinations completed before entering playcare/boarding. We also want your dog to be grown and physically able to safely mix with other adult dogs. That's why no puppies. Please contact with any possible exceptions, or if your puppy has had all it's immunizations completed. If your veterinarian says yes to daycare, then let's talk! We love the youngsters. And, we make sure that they play safely!
Are there any breeds you will not admit to playcare/boarding?
Yes. We will not admit any bull breeds or mixed breeds of bull terrier descent, or any fighting dog, regardless of size, age, or demonstrated temperament. (The only exception is for French Bulldogs that pass our sociability test.)
I have a dog that weighs 38 pounds and gets groomed at your place regularly. He gets along fine with other dogs when he is there. Can we enter him into your playcare/boarding program?
Unfortunately no. While we groom dogs of any size and almost every breed, the entry requirements for our playcare/boarding program are more restrictive, and comply with state guidelines.
How often will my dog get to go outside when he stays with you in playcare/boarding?
As often as possible, weather permitting. We believe dogs, like people, need fresh air and sunshine, as well as frequent opportunities to go potty. You will love our outdoor play area. Come check it out!
My dog usually gets a daytime meal. Will you feed him?
Of course. When he checks in, bring his food in a container with his name on it, along with feeding instructions, and we'll make it happen! No need to bring a food bowl. We have plenty of those.
My dog takes medication. Would you be able to give him his meds?
Of course. Be sure to bring written, detailed instructions when you bring the meds at check-in. If the medication container has clear instructions on the prescription, we can follow that as well.
Should I bring along my dog's favorite toys, blanket, food bowl, bed or sleeping kennel?
We have plenty of safe toys, blankets, food bowls, kennels, and bedding at Pupcakes. Please leave your dog's personal things at home where they cannot be damaged by other dogs in playcare/boarding.
Will you take my dog on an exercise walk during the day like he gets at home?
Your dog is going to get so much exercise at Pupcakes, he will be one pooped pup by the time he gets home at the end of the day. All of our activities take place inside the safe confines of our indoor and outdoor play areas. The streets of Buckhead are very busy. For safety, we do not take dogs off-property for walks.
My dog is very shy. Do you do socialization training?
Not in so many words, but. we have found that many shy dogs warm up to other dogs when they are gently exposed to a happy group. We cannot guarantee our playcare environment will work for every shy dog, but it does seem to help many.
The last time I checked in on my dog, he was just laying there, sleeping. I thought dog playcare was full of fun and activity?
It is! Which is probably why you caught your dog exploring the inside of his eyelids. Dogs sleep quite a bit as it is. Dogs in playcare get a lot of activity and stimulation. To stay in balance, your dog, like most dogs needs down time to get ready for the next round of play. We generally let sleeping dogs lie; and we don't push a pup that needs his beauty rest.

How much will it cost to groom my dog?
Your Pupcakes groomer will take the time to listen to you carefully, examine your dog, and discuss all your options. Ans: It depends on how much time and effort it takes to groom your particular dog. Here is what you and your groomer will consider:
The breed or breed mix–big dogs and long-coated breeds take more time and effort to groom.
Breeds with cottony or silky coats generally require more work than coarse-haired breeds. Breeds with long hair will require more work that a short haired dog.
The coat condition–extremely tangled or matted coats take considerably more time to clean and untangle than coats that are not tangled or matted.
The complexity of the desired style.
A simple shave or a clip of uniform length generally takes less time to complete than a highly stylized cut.
FAQS
Are there any extra charges for grooming?
Everything listed in the menu for each service is included in the price we quote for your dog, tip to tail. There is no surcharge for grooming older dogs, or disabled dogs. If your dog's coat is matted or extensively tangled, the price for that day will be slightly higher to account for all the extra effort that goes into safely and gently de-matting your dog's coat.
Do you discount the price of a grooming for a puppy? They are small, so there is less to groom.
We only charge for the amount of time and effort it takes to groom a dog. While a puppy does not have as much coat to groom as a fully grown dog, puppies still take as much time to groom as a full-sized dog. Puppies squirm and resist grooming like a small child, so we take our time, go extra slow, and apply extra care to make sure puppy's first grooming sessions are agreeable. (You never get a second chance to make a first impression.) For all these reasons, we don't discount the price for puppies; and, most importantly, we do not charge extra to groom a puppy, as some locations do.
I've been told my dog can get very irritable when he is groomed. How would you handle that problem?
Safety is our number one priority when grooming your dog. Our procedures and techniques are based upon giving your dog the gentlest, most careful grooming possible. If, despite our best efforts, your dog decides he doesn't want to be groomed, and his behavior may jeopardize safety, we will do whatever your dog allows us to do safely or we will stop grooming. You will only be charged for the work that was completed.
I've heard heated cage dryers can be dangerous. Do you use them?
No. Although heated cage dryers can be used safely, we do not use them.
My dog hates to get his nails clipped. Will you be able to do it?
We approach nail clipping in the same manner as all grooming–if it can be done safely, we will do it. We find some dogs that are shy around nail clippers will accept nail filing. We can often file a dog's nails down to an acceptable length when the dog resists nail clipping.
I have a special shampoo and conditioner for my dog. Would you use it when she gets groomed?
Of course! Bring it in. We can even store your dog's shampoo in house so you don't have to lug it with you for every grooming. appointment. We are here to make you and your dog's life easier.
My dog has skin and coat issues. Can you help?
We will do whatever we can from a grooming standpoint. While we are not veterinarians, we can help your dog with short-term, simple issues such as dry, flaky skin; oily coat; brittle coat; or, flea infestation. We use high-quality shampoos, conditioners, and flea treatments to tackle your dog's most common coat and skin problems. For chronic problems, you should consult with your veterinarian.
Do you offer any stand-alone services such as teeth brushing?
We sure do! We offer, as stand-alone services:
Teeth brushing
Nail Clipping and Filing
Normally included in all grooming services, but may be requested as a stand-alone service.
Nail Polishing
Ask us about available colors.
Coat de-tangling/Brushing
Note: We can only perform de-tangling (also known as matting) and brushing if your dog's coat is clean, otherwise, we will need to include a bath and blow dry before brushing. Regular brushing and combing as well as professional brush-outs will help minimize any matting. Please note: If we determine that it would be best to cut your dog short instead of dematting him or her, we will contact you. Groomers do not want to cause harm or unnecessary discomfort to you dog. Be assured, this decision is never taken lightly and is in the best interest of the dog. Sometimes, matting can be so bad that it is resting on the skin and can cause skin issues, including, but not limited to redness, rashes, and infections.
