Ages: 18 mths - 36 mths, Time Duration: 45 min. This is a parent - tot class. Parents are included in the structure of this class to provide the opportunity to interact with their child in a gym setting. The skills worked on in this class include running, skipping, and hopping. The obstacle course is used to encourage climbing and discovering the world around your toddle in a safe and padded environment. Children do not need to be potty trained for this class. The class is held in the enclosed kindergym area with time spent in the loose foam pit at the end
Preschool
Ages: 3 - 4 years, Time Duration: 45 min. These classes are structured with parents watching. This is the first time many children this age are working on taking turns, listening to directions and following in a line. This is a great opportunity to expose youngsters to a class setting. Skills focused on in these class include basic body shapes, rolling forward and backwards, being off the ground on bars and rings in the kindergym setting, climbing the rockwall to work on basic strength, rope climbing to encourage overall body strength, balancing on hands and feet while on a beam and much more. Most of the class is spent in the enclosed kindergym area
Kindergym
Ages: 4 - 5 years, Time Duration: 60 minute. This class is structured to work on more basic gymnastics skills including cartwheels, handstands and bridges on floor, front supports and circling skills on bars, balance skills including jumps and hops on beam along with rolling skills and dismounts. This is a co-ed class in which the girls will be exposed to the strength required to do many of the same basic skills the boys work on. On vault skills focused on are running and punching on the springboard. Bars the students will work on casting along with forward and backward circling skills to develop into dismounts. Time during class is spent in the kindergym along with the large gym facility
Advanced - Kindergym
Ages: 5 - 6 years, Time Duration: 60 minute. This class is structured to develop skills geared toward competition level skills. The athletes will continue to work on basic gymnastics skills including cartwheels, handstands and bridges on floor, front supports and circling skills on bars, balance skills including jumps and hops on beam along with rolling skills and dismounts. This is a girls only class in which the girls will be exposed to the strength required to do many of the skills they will be working on in a more structured class. On vault skills focused on are running and punching on the springboard, dive rolling and flat falls. Bars the students will work on casting along with forward and backward circling skills to develop into dismounts. Time during class is spent in the kindergym along with the large gym facility. More conditioning is built into this class structure to prepare the athletes for expectations of a team track setting. If competition is the directions you think you want your child to go, this is a great way to ease them into the transition
Recreational Classes for Boys and Girls
Beginner Girls
Ages: 6 and up, Time Duration: 60 minute class once a week. Basic body shapes, flexibility and conditioning. This class will focus on correct shapes in rolls and cartwheels. Bars students will begin learning to support themselves and circle around the bar. Balance beam athletes will work on beginning balance moves including jumps and hops, walking and turning, along with beginning acro skills of rolls and jump style dismounts. Vault will focus on the run and approach on the board with building strength of stick landings
Intermediate Girls
Ages: 6 and up, Time Duration: 90 minute class once a week. Girls will begin working on walkover skills forward and backward on floor along with roundoff shaping and beginning back handspring drills. Bars students will master the pullover and back hip circle and begin working kip stations for body shaping. More time is spent conditioning during this level to ensure safe skills. Balance beam they will focus on learning a cartwheel on beam along with handstand on beam and a handstand dismount. Vault they begin to do drills up to the table and will begin to go into the pit with their landings. There is still focus on running shapes and styles
Advanced Girls
Ages: 7 and up, Time Duration: 2 Hour class once a week. This is where the girls will learn roundoff back handsprings, front handsprings and front tucks. Bars will focus on the kip and strength, along with low to high bar transitions. Athletes may begin flipping dismounts into the pit. Balance beam girls will begin to work on front and back walkovers on the beam along with full turns and split jumps. These skills require much more air awareness to complete. Vault the athletes will work on vaulting over the table with soft landings in the pit. There will be specific focus on conditioning skills to build gymnastics strength and flexibility
Beginner Boys
Ages: 6 and up, Time Duration: 60 minute class once a week. In this class, the boys will learn basic gymnastics skills including forward rolling skills on floor and basic headstand and handstand positions. They will begin to work on the high bar learning swinging skills and work on being off the ground. Rings they focus on pull ups and leg lifts which are key parts of the foundational skills on this event. On parallel bars the boys will learn short routines including front support swings, leg cuts and straddles, and swing dismounts. Vault focuses on punching and running at the spring board. On the mushroom the boys will begin to learn the basic body positions necessary to complete a round. This in one of the hardest skills for the boys to acquire and the most exciting when they accomplish it
Intermediate Boys
Ages: 6 and up, Time Duration: 90 minute class once a week. This class focuses on the more advanced skills. Cartwheels, handstands, round offs, and limbering skills on floor. Inversions skills and strength holds on rings and parallel bars. Boys will learn how to complete a circling skill on the mushroom top and a basic routine on the pommel horse. At this level vault skills are focusing on front tucks and handspring flat falls on the resi pit. This class also spends time working on strength and flexibility
Advanced Boys
Ages: 6 and up, Time Duration: 2 Hour class once a week. In this class, the boys will learn routines that could translate into a competition setting. Athletes will work on dismounts and flipping skills on each of the apparatus. On floor the boys will start to work on back handsprings and front handsprings. On rings the boys will begin to work on flyaway dismounts, inverts to shoot outs and swings. This is the level in which the boys will learn routines and flares on the pommel horse to put together routines. More intense conditioning and flexibility are performed in this class to ensure the safety of the athlete while performing their skills
Tumbling Acro Class
Ages: 6 and up, Time Duration: 60 minutes class once a week. This class focuses on basic floor tumbling skills including cartwheels, limbers, handsprings and aerials. Upon mastery of skills, combinations are then put together to create short tumbling passes. This class also includes time to work on core conditioning which is critical for safe progressions while tumbling
Team Track Developmental Program
Little Sparks
Ages: 4 - 6 years, Time Duration: 90 minutes class twice a week. This class focuses on basic body shaping required to go clean safe progressions. The focus of this class into as much skill development as it is body awareness of what the correct shapes are needed to do skills safely. This class will work on perfecting basic shapes like tuck, pike, straddle and splits. There is more strength training involved to develop the body control that will be needed for the upper level skills to come
Fireballs
Ages: 5 - 7 years, Time Duration: 2 Hour class twice a week. This class will begin working on shaping for the harder skills like limbering and handsprings. They will also begin working on swings and basic kip shapes on bars. Vault will begin to focus on the running techniques to develop explosive runs on vault. Flipping is introduced to assist with body and air awareness. There is more focus on conditioning in body shapes during this class to again stress the need for safe progressions in gymnastics
Pre-Team
Ages: 5 - 8 years, Time Duration: 2 Hour class three times a week. This class they will begin to work on the skills needed to move to team. There is a focus on strength and flexibility every practice along with skill development. The skills these athletes will be learning are part of the Level 3 routines that they will be competing at the next step. Focus is still on technique with straight legs and pointed toes along with body shaping to develop balanced and strong athletes
Usag Xcel Competition Team
Our XCEL team is growing every year. This is a chance for those athletes that want to compete without the time commitment of the JO program. XCEL athletes are leveled by the skills they can perform. Their routines are designed around the skills they are working on in the gym. This team is a great way for athletes to experience being a competitive gymnast. USAG J.O. Competition Team
Our USAG J.O. Competition team focuses on the skills needed to lead into an optional gymnastic career. The Junior Olympic program is a highly structured program that building on strength, conditioning, flexibility and progressions. The routines performed at the compulsory level are the same routines that require precision in performance hitting all poses correctly and elegantly. There are required mastery of skills in order to progress to the next level
Compulsory Levels 3 - 5
Time Duration: 4 hours 3 days a week. Our Level 3 - 5 team travels in the state of Iowa during their competition season with one out of state travel meet. Their competition season starts in late September and runs through the State Championships in early December
Optional Level Gymnastics Level 6 - 10
Optional level gymnasts have received qualifying scores out of the compulsory levels. These athletes are now able to make up their own routines and showcase skills that are strong for their body type and strength. This is where the fun routines that you see on the Olympics and World competitions start. The season for the Optional Team runs from early January through the State Championships where athletes level 8 - 10 can qualify for the Regional Competition in Late March. Level 9 and 10 athletes can qualify to the National competition form there in April. This season consists of 4 travel meets across the midwest with 2 additional meets in Iowa

Birthday Parties
Come and join us for your child's birthday. We offer a place for those energetic youngsters to run around and burn off that pent-up energy. We offer use of our birthday party room for cake and present opening. This allows you to focus on the fun of the birthday without having to worry about the mess. Bring in your own decorations and decorate the room to your liking. Basic Birthday parties cost $110 for an hour in the gym and half an hour in the party room. Price covers 10 children with an additional $7 charge for each additional child, and we provide the invitations. Please contact the office for further information.
Open Gym
We offer Open Gyms the second Friday of every month. This is a time where you can drop your child off and run errands or enjoy a night out without the kids. Coaches are provided for a safe environment with activities throughout the night including using the parachute and relay races. Parents are welcome to stay and play with their kids if they would like. Open gym sessions run from 5:00 - 6:30 and 6:45 - 8:15 with a cost per session of:

Lunch Bunch each Wednesday 11:30 - 1:00
This is an opportunity for parents to drop off their children to have lunch with the coach and open gym time to follow. Drop off a sack lunch with your child and they will eat picnic style in the party room, then they spend an hour in the gym running and playing. The coach will work with the child in a less structured setting than a class time, but still focusing on safety and basic gymnastics skills. Cost is:

New Year's Eve Overnighter
Our New Year's Eve Overnighter is a great way to have a night off and not have to worry about hiring a babysitter. Drop your child off at the gym between 9:00 and 10:00 pm, and we will take care of the movies, craft activities, fort-building and games. Pizza and snacks will be provided along with breakfast in the morning. Pick up is between 9:00 and 10:00 on New Year's morning. This is great way for the kids to have a great time and play with their friends. Special Dietary Foods for Gluten Free and Peanut Free needs will also be provided. This event is open for kids age 5 - 13. Cost is $40 for the first child in the family, $35 for the 2nd, $30 for the third, and $25 for each additional child. Members receive a $5 discount. Sign up is required for this event to prepare for staffing and food needs
4th Of July Parade
Prairie Fire Gymnastics won a Parade award this past year at the Grinnell Parade. We have representation in the cities of Newton, Grinnell and Lynnville - Sully. For each of the parades, PFG provides the candy and toys to pass out to the youngsters watching along the parade routes. This is a great way for kids to enjoy the 4th in a controlled and exciting way. On the float we set up mats and a spring board. The athletes get to show off skills they have been working on at the gym while the float carries us through the parade route
