Potato Creek Johnny stood a mere 4'3", but dressed in buckskins and sporting a full beard, he was the epitome of the old-time prospector. He soon became one of Deadwood's premier tourist attractions, and spent the rest of his years happily entertaining visitors to Deadwood, and panning for gold. He died in 1943, and was laid to rest in Deadwood's Mount Moriah Cemetery, alongside Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane.
