In 1983, after watching one of his son’s last high school football games, Jerry Paliga, Sr. and several other parents wanted to gather for a pizza and a pitcher of beer. It was then that Jerry realized there was no place to go in Lansing and how his hometown needed such a place for families to enjoy.
Together with Don and Paula Wright, Jerry and Carol Paliga, Sr. decided to sell their heating and air conditioning business and open the area’s first hometown pizzeria – Popolano’s. The demand for more than just pizza encouraged the founders to expand their menu to include many of their classic Italian family recipes.
