Xcel
Coach: Jen Hansen, Sr. Head Coach: Tristian Rodriguez
Xcel Team (Silver pictured with Coach Chrissie)
Xcel is a new competitive program through USA Gymnastics that we at Platinum are very proud to participate in. Competitive gymnastics is well known for being incredibly intense and time consuming. Because of the difficulty and complexity of the sport itself, gymnastics has for many years been left only to the few truly gifted and willing to dedicate their lives to the sport. This left countless talented athletes unable to pursue the sport they love because of the demands of time, age, physicality, natural ability and/or overall intensity. Xcel has changed all of that. While any gymnastics program will be a challenge, Xcel provides the competitive experience without all of the restrictions and intensity of the traditional program. If your child is interested in taking her gymnastics to the next level, talk to our staff for more information on our fantastic Xcel program

Director Sue Jacoby
Sue Jacoby grew up in Thousand Oaks and got her start in the gymnastics world at just 4 years old
Going all the way through the competitive levels of the 1970's. Loving it every step of the way, she continued for 10 years and began coaching at 17 years old. At 19 she attended Moorpark College where she got her certification in child development with an emphasis in child psychology and emergency medical training. She continued her education with a move to Arizona where she majored in athletic training, focusing primarily on injury recognition, treatment and rehabilitation.
Upon returning to California in the coming years, Sue also returned to coaching gymnastics.
In the midst of coaching and starting a family, Sue began her own business operating a successful mobile gymnastics program. Traveling to over 25 schools per week and teaching gymnastics to children in preschool through middle school, Sue's mobile gymnastics program contracted with the City of San Diego, The Boys & Girls Club of San Diego, The San Diego Union School District and multiple private and public schools.
In 1993 Sue and her family moved to Hawaii where she was the director of the Maui County YMCA gymnastics program for 3 years.
Upon returning to the Thousand Oaks area, Sue again returned to coaching and directing recreational gymnastics while her 2 children began their journey in competitive gymnastics. During this time Sue participated as credentialed volunteer at both the 2003 World Championships and the 2004 Olympics Trials.
Currently, Sue is the recreational director here at Platinum Sports Center.
With over 20 years of program directing and 30 years of coaching experience, she brings her love of the sport with her. Sue believes that each child enters the sport of gymnastics for different reasons, as each child's journey in the sport is unique to them. With that in mind, she hopes that however long their journey may be, they experience the joys of the sport, that they have a positive experience, and that they use the benefits of their experience to take with them for the rest of their lives!.

Wanted to let you know how much my son is enjoying martial arts with you. I've seen improvement in his behavior, more respect and care about my feelings, a maturity with his sister and a drive to continue progressing with his skills. This has definitely been a good experience for him and he has met some positive peers to interact with. I have seen your style of teaching and feel it is working very well with my son. I'm very glad that we decided to switch to your program.

About our Martial Arts Director Daniel Wierman
Daniel Wierman, 27, grew up in LA's suburb, the San Fernando Valley and was raised in the city of Chatsworth.
Due to his homeschooling from elementary to high school, Daniel was instilled with a great sense of community and family. From this close circle, he was able to experience nothing short of an ideal childhood. He played in the the local baseball league, participated in his church volleyball tournaments and took on the Martial Arts; specifically Karate's Tang Soo Do, which became the most impactful of all.
What began as merely a hobby that he dabbled in at around the age of 12 eventually became his career.
Daniel began taking karate seriously when he was 16. He earned his first-degree black belt at the age 23 and his second-degree black belt at the age of 25.
Realizing his love for the discipline and his knack for teaching, he picked it up as a part time job.
With his growing success, he came to the conclusion that not only was Karate his passion but it would now become his primary vocation. Since then he has extended his knowledge in the Martial Arts to Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kick Boxing and Traditional Boxing.
Daniel's desire to teach has led him to many opportunities.
He taught with Cutting Edge Karate for 10 years, Agoura Karate for 2 years, and in 2005, started his own program for Special Needs. His love for teaching includes his desire to help others become fit and healthy, which brought him to Gold's Gym where the taught adult boxing for two years. Recognizing his instructing ability, Daniel started his own business, DW MMA, which entails private lessons and personal training in the Martial Arts and Boxing.
With his plethora of specialized education,
Training and applied teaching experience, we are thrilled that Daniel has become such a welcome and wonderful addition to our program at Platinum Sports Center!.

YOU! Camp by Jay King
Jay knows a thing or two about weight loss...and weight gain for that matter.
Born in Anchorage, Alaska and raised near Sacramento, California, Jay served 7 years in the Air Force branch of the Military and he is an Iraq War Veteran.
Jay has been an avid weight lifter since the age of 14. Among his fitness experience is Muay Thai and Cross Training.
After serving in the Air force, Jay gained 45 extra pounds!
Dissatisfied with how he felt, he dedicated himself to becoming healthier than he had ever been through a combination of better eating habits and unconventional training techniques.
This led Jay to King (Director of Platinum's Urban Gymnastics program) who taught Jay Parkour through conditioning drills, military discipline and habit-forming repetition.
He later utilized this training for two years as an independent contractor with the Army, teaching Parkour fitness to Kuwaiti youth.
We are very fortunate to have watched as Jay has nurtured so many of our students to a higher level of understanding, strength, confidence and ability.
A firm believer in fitness for longevity, function and health,
Jay has brought a unique blend of cross training and boot camp style know-how to create an Adult Fitness class at Platinum Sports Center, titled "YOU Camp," where he offers proven techniques that allow the individual to obtain a complete body transition at his or her own pace.
You! Camp
A specially designed class from Trainer and Coach, Jay King.
This personal fitness class is designed with YOU in mind.
It is fitness with a concept. Instructor Jay King will train you in drills, running, jumping, climbing, pressing and crawling. YOU will combine your own body weight along with movement to create the best YOU yet! YOU will work out your shoulders, chest, back, legs, arms, core and more to their full potential. YOU will move naturally at your own personal level, yet with Jay's help, you will learn how to challenge yourself and utilize muscle groups correctly as well as safely, to gain the maximum possible physical benefits ever.

Did You Know?
Did you know that Platinum Sports Center's 'JUMP FITNESS' is guaranteed to break a sweat in 5 minutes??!! Mythbuster.
Trampolining Is for Kids, Right?
WRONG! It breeds incredible results for people of all ages apart from the obvious health benefits, which are endless. Many studies have led scientists to conclude that jumping on a trampoline is possibly the most effective exercise yet devised by man. It can even make you look and feel younger! Regular cardiovascular exercise by rebounding on a trampoline is one of the vitally important factors to slowing down the aging process. Dr. James White of the University of California at San Diego, says that rebounding exercise is "the closest thing to the fountain of youth that science has discovered." Adding, "It has proven effective in decreasing the symptoms of over 80% of the patients reporting to our rehabilitation lab." As an exercise program, trampoline fitness is perfect for those starting from scratch. Clients who choose to, may bounce very gently to begin with, slowly building up to more energetic and advanced routines. Unlike jogging and running, trampoline exercise yields zero-impact on your joints and bodily systems. Trampoline exercise promotes health and well-being in numerous ways including the following:
Reduces body fat, which is highly beneficial for Diabetes and many other diseases.
Provides aerobic exercise resulting favorably for lungs, heart and respiratory system.
Gives the body natural energy when it is tired.
Helps to prevent against heart disease.
Offers relief of depression by initiating adrenalin and endorphin release, resulting in positive mood change, even promoting laughter.
Stabilizes blood pressure.
Assists in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Lowers elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Relieves neck, back pain and headaches.
Trampolining relieves stress, restlessness and promotes relaxation.
Benefits and Fitness - Exercise in Disguise
Burn 1000 calories per hour - Jump, jump and away!
When you jump; every muscle, tendon, organ and cell in your body is strengthened!
Jumping enhances balance, flexibility, coordination, reaction, speed, timing and agility.
If you bounce for just 10 minutes, it is like jogging for 30 minutes without the stress on your body.
Trampolining increases your metabolism, which means you are burning more calories!
NASA states that the benefits of the trampoline are 68% more effective than jogging.
Just as astronauts experience floating in space, your body is in a state of weightlessness at the top of the bounce.
Rebounding is an exercise that reduces your body fat and gives your body energy when it is tired.
Jump when you NEED energy, not just when you HAVE energy.
A natural facelift! Jumping affects your skin externally by tightening, smoothing and diminishing lines & wrinkles.
How Does all of This Work?
At the peak of a bounce, every cell in your body is suspended for a split second in a state of weightlessness.
At the bottom of the bounce, every cell in your body is receiving as much as 2-4 times normal gravitational force (2-4 times your weight.) As every cell is stressed, each in turn develops more strength! Because the body interprets the acceleration and deceleration of bouncing on a trampoline as an increase in gravitational pull, muscles and bones gain strength, far beyond what is considered normal. Every time you land on a trampoline, each and every cell is simultaneously getting stronger.
All Of Your Body
your face, legs, arms, calves, waist, back, shoulders, chest, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bladder and all internal organs are getting stronger and healthier - together. At the same time, your lymphatic system is working to remove poisons and toxins, providing you with DOUBLE the benefits.
Bottom line
Trampolining provides pure pleasure within the freedom of movement.
So, smile, laugh and enjoy 'platinum x-treme' fun !!!
Thanks for jumping with us... -The Platinum Sports Center, Team.
