The Tara Hideaway was officially recognized as a historic landmark in 2008. It was originally opened as Lynch’s Chicken Shack in 1929, burnt to the ground in 1931, and was rebuilt a year later in the log cabin style that still permeates to this day.
Over the years this location has spawned much lore, from the name Tara deriving from a dog of previous owners to suspected bootlegging and gangster activities of Capone and Dillinger.
In 1997 Phil Barbatsis launched Phil’s Tara Hideaway focusing on the traditions of the past while presenting guests with a contemporary, relaxing, and affordable dining experience.
Over the years Phil has teamed up the chef Brad Nordeen to create unique Greek-Mediterranean inspired cuisine using only the freshest and highest quality ingredients.
Phil’s focuses on using locally grown and raised products, daily sourced fresh fish and seafood, & specials based on the bounty of the season.
