Charles ReevesCharles Reeves and Holly CluseHolly Cluse opened the Penny Cluse Café in May of 1998. Named after Holly’s childhood dog, PennyHolly's childhood dog Penny, the café serves up breakfast and lunch every day, all day. Charles grew up in New Jersey, went to school in Providence and had a pretty good stint in San Francisco. Opening a breakfast and lunch place was a natural extension of his restaurant career. He’s always focused on small, independently owned restaurants that cater to a local crowd with dependable food and friendly service. Holly also grew up in New Jersey, went to school in Providence, and lived in San Francisco working as a teacher (and dreaming of Vermont).
Penny Cluse is located on the corner of Cherry and South Winooski in the heart of downtown Burlington. The clientele is about as diverse as it gets. Students, professionals, families, artists, politicians, tourists all vie for a table in the busy restaurant. Ask any regular and they’ll complain that there’s been a wait every Saturday and Sunday since the day Penny Cluse opened!
