Octagon
2016 Octagon
A wine of highly distinctive character, achieved in blending estate-grown Bordeaux varietals, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Petit Verdot, Octagon's great prestige rests further on its being created only in fine vintages, and with the most astute selection from the harvest. This is the highest expression of our estate's European derivation and inspiration, crafted to be a wine of distinctive character and age worthiness in every incarnation.

Whites
2019 Pinot Grigio
Amiably tolerant of great variations in growing season conditions, Pinot Grigio is always at the forefront of drinkability and food friendliness in our range of white wines. It is harvested promptly when ripe, to conserve its structuring acidity, and fermented and aged in stainless steel with scrupulous isolation from oxygen. A deceptively simplified palate is backed by alluring tropical notes, suggestions of salinity and ample mouth feel.
750 ml$15.00
2019 Chardonnay
Our classic Chardonnay ripens on the vine with potential alcohol in the familiar and food-friendly range of Burgundy, 12.5 to 13 percent. Since 1979 our approach in the winery has captured the brilliant varietal essence of the wine, without resort to oak or to malolactic fermentation, resulting in immediate approachability and the broadest applicability in dining.
750 ml$15.00
2018 Sauvignon Blanc Reserve
We celebrate an entirely new generation of this wine at our estate, planted in sites prepared specifically for its three clonal varieties, selected in New Zealand for their adaptability to our warm growing conditions. Fermentation and aging in stainless steel, with extended contact with the lees, capture the vibrant aromas and refreshing palate of Sauvignon Blanc with firm body and lively food friendliness.
750 ml$22.00
2019 Vermentino Reserve
Native to the maritime growing regions of Liguria, Corsica and Sardinia, Vermentino has adapted splendidly to our warm climate in Piedmont Virginia. A spontaneously ingratiating white wine of self-proclaiming love for seafood and fish in all preparations, Vermentino's dry but distinctly luscious minerality is complemented by generous palate weight and length, which we capture with fermentation and aging in stainless steel, under continuing lees contact of at least 7 or 8 months.
750 ml$23.00
2019 Chardonnay Reserve
The grapes are allowed to achieve a proportionately higher potential alcohol on the vine than our classic Chardonnay. Then, selecting 2nd and 3rd-use barrels of French and American oak for fermentation and for aging, we preserve Chardonnay's inherent effusiveness and lengthen its palate performance without malolactic fermentation. Core varietal aromas and flavors are thereby captured, and extended by batonnage through several months on the lees.
750 ml$19.00
2019 Viognier Reserve
Planted widely now in many regions of Virginia, Viognier evolves so vividly in our Piedmont terroir that we were the first to abandon oak and malolactic fermentation to reveal the complexity within its warm climate sultriness, and the vitality of middle palate sustaining its floral opulence. A wine of full body and adaptability with game as well as the traditional pairings of fish, shellfish, poultry and Asian cuisine.
750 ml$22.00
2018 Fiano Reserve
Produced for the first time on the East Coast in 2015, Fiano is a grape of ancient ancestry in the vineyards of central Italy near Rome and Naples. A grape that adapts greatly to warm climates such as ours, Fiano has drawn the attention also of growers in south Australia and in Argentina's Rioja region. We are truly excited to take the lead by presenting this varietal from the slopes of Goodlow Mountain.

Reds
2018 Merlot
Established as one of the estate's most important and consistent varietals, this classic Merlot is one of our most popular wines, for its very gratifying palate and food pairing manners. Supple, silky, yet with attractive tannic grip, the wine is forthcoming with luscious aromas and flavors which suggest it most frequently in everyday dining, and when a glass by itself is desired.
750 ml$15.00
2019 Cabernet Sauvignon
A Cabernet Sauvignon bred on the vine and in the winery for early approachability, the wine nevertheless evolves in bottle to repay patience in its consumption. Because of its vivid fruit and moderate concentration of tannins, its food pairing range is broader than expected, while still giving great satisfaction especially with rich red meats and game.
750 ml$15.00
2018 Barbera Reserve
This wine of Piemonte, Italy, has long been a strong favorite in our list, for varietal expression and its adaptability to a broad range of possible culinary pairings. It is also the favorite discovery in red wines, for palates previously tending toward whites, and with any requirement of avoiding bold tannins. Barbera refreshes the dining experience of everyone.
750 ml$22.00
2017 Sangiovese Reserve
One of our more popular Reserves in red wine, Sangiovese's great natural appeal is augmented in blending with up to 25 percent with one or more Bordeaux varietals, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. The wine's inherent food-friendliness and generously forthcoming plum and luscious red berry fruit are thereby enriched to offer firm body and elegant texture in classic pairings with roasts, pastas, and grilled fish.
750 ml$25.00
2018 Cabernet Franc Reserve
This especially food-friendly wine is so varietally characterful and intriguing that its outstanding response to our terroir has sustained its ranking among the most honored and loyally followed wines we produce. We grow vines originating from the Loire Valley as well as Pomerol and St Émilion, as the foundation of a wine famed for elegance and complexity as well as considerable age worthiness.
750 ml$25.00
2014 Merlot Reserve
Appearing only in superior vintages, the production of this wine is simply a happy dividend. Its production is naturally limited by not being required for blending the Octagon of that year. Cultivated, as are all the varietals destined for Octagon, in carefully selected blocks of our Goodlow Mountain vineyard, this wine is vinified for the greatest durability of shelf life and concentration of varietal expression.
750 ml$32.00
2017 Petit Verdot Reserve
The distinctively darkly colored and assertively tannic blending varietal of Bordeaux, cultivated here originally for its contribution to Octagon and with those strict standards, our Petit Verdot has shown itself able to satisfy a winelover's taste for rich, earthy dark berry flavors and great palate length. Produced in this way in limited volume, the wine is capable of extended cellar life, and benefits from several years in bottle.
750 ml$35.00
2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Our rarest wine, the Reserve Cabernet will age at great length and respond to the highest demands for varietal expression. The wine is based on a grape selection identified by long experience as the finest for our growing region, and grown in specially selected small vineyard blocks. It is aged at least a full year in old and new French oak barriques crafted for us in Piemonte, Italy.
750 ml$40.00
2017 Nebbiolo Reserve
The pre-eminent wine of Italy, and possibly of all red wine, Nebbiolo has distinguished itself as one of our leading varietals since our first vintage, 1998. Our style is inspired by Barbaresco in cultivation and aging, and the wine unfolds in bottle at the stately pace for which it is so greatly appreciated by connoisseurs, for the most savory pairings of meats and game.
750 ml$35.00
2019 Allegrante Rosé
Blending our internationally esteemed Nebbiolo with recently established Petit Syrah has resulted in a vintage wine of complex aromatics and gratifying mouth feel, with the delightful lightness desired in a fine rosé. In 1835 Senator Henry Clay acquired Allegrante, a highly prized and beautiful thoroughbred, from Governor James Barbour, hereditary owner of this Estate. This mare contributed in establishing the stable of Ashland Farm which eventually won three Kentucky Derby. Today, from the same slopes where Allegrante roamed in her youth, we are crafting an elegant, vivacious and classic old world rosé.

Dessert
2015 Paxxito (Malvaxia)
Moscato Ottonel and Vidal grapes are harvested young, to capture the fruit's acidity, and in a traditional Passito method, allowed to air dry and raisinize on racks open to outdoor ventilation for months, concentrating flavors and sugars. A lengthy fermentation is induced naturally in older barriques, where aging continues for another year, in protracted lees contact, continuously stirred. Incomparably vigorous and luscious, every vintage is destined for lengthy cellaring.
375 ml$32.00
Philéo
A non-vintage composition of Moscato Ottonel, Traminette, and Vidal, Philéo has won top honors for Moscato in international competitions and is one of the estate's most widely loved wines. Very long and cold fermentation in stainless steel, scrupulously avoiding oxygen contact, results in a genuinely refreshing dessert wine with a light, clean finish, of great appeal with fine cheeses, fresh berries, and famously with crême brulée and tiramisù.
