Class Descriptions
Open Level
Challenging Vinyasa or flowing series of poses, experience suggested. It is recommended but not required that you attend Basic or Level 1-2 classes before attending Open classes.
Level 2 - 3, Anusara
Engaging the Universal Priciples of Alignment unique to Anusara Yoga. Intermediate to advanced practice, The most challenging level, recommended for people who are ready to explore advanced variations of arm balances, inversions, jumpbacks, backbends and lotus. At this level the student will be familiar with principles of alignment and a wide range of asana. Assumes the student has ability to do Adho Mukha Vrksana (Hand Stand) at the wall and Urdhva Danurasana (Upward facing Bow/Wheel) with straight arms.
Level 1 - 2
Building from a familiarity with Level 1, the basic asana and principles, including inverted positions and backbends. More challenging asana are added and a deeper level of understanding of the practice is conveyed.
Open Level, Anusara
Engaging the Universal Priciples of Alignment unique to Anusara Yoga we'll explore advanced asana in depth, challenging vinyasa or flowing series of poses, experience suggested. It is recommended but not required that you attend Basic or Level 1-2 classes before attending Open classes.

Each session will focus on your needs and goals. We offer private, and semi- private small group yoga sessions at your home or at the studio when available. Please indicate your desired date and time and instructor. We will confirm or arrange an alternate appointment depending on availability
John Seelye
John Seelye is a senior yoga instructor with over 25 years of teaching experience who is well versed in the all levels of yoga practice
The healing arts of yoga therapeutics and support of the subtle energy bio fields through the use of Pranic Healing and Reiki
John is a certified Anusara® Yoga instructor
A graduate of the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy program, Pranic Healing Level III, Reiki Level II and Yoga Therapy programs. His meditation practice dates back more than 25 years. A lifelong interest in human potential continues to fuel his journey
He has been teaching private sessions, group classes, and leading retreats and teacher trainings in New York City and the Hamptons for over 25 years.
He founded One Ocean Yoga 11 years ago, that today operates every summer in a tent-studio and in doors every winter on the grounds of Channing Daughters Winery. John teaches private sessions by appointment in the Hamptons and NYC and offers workshops in various studios in the northeastern US
In addition to teaching yoga
John is on the Review Committee for Certification in the School of Anusara® Yoga and is expecting certification as a Master Trainer for future Urban Zen Integrative Therapists in the near future. He also sponsors and produces yoga related events throughout the year, including concerts with Krishna Das, Wah, The Hanumen, David Hykes and benefits for Urban Zen and Bent on Learning

Isabella Channing
Isabella, the owner and primary teacher of The Shack Yoga, a yoga studio in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay is a certified Jivamukti Yoga instructor.
She began teaching in 2003 in Uruguay, South America where she was originally trained in the Sivananda Yoga method. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Health & Wellness Coach and has extensive training in Ashtanga and Anusara methods of yoga. She currently teaches private and group classes in NYC, the Hamptons, and Uruguay. She has partnered with John Seelye to host One Ocean Yoga on her family's vineyard in Bridgehampton, NY
Nina Heller
Nina Heller is a highly skilled health practitioner.
She has spent more than twenty years devoted to the healing arts. Nina is certified and licensed in Anusara yoga, fitness training, and massage therapy including: Medical, Cranial Sacral, Visceral Manipulation, Swedish, and Tai Massage, Sports Therapy and Shiatsu. She trains privately in swimming pools and on land. Nina is a long-time expert in alignment and therapeutic healing practices. She is devoted to her clients and their families and to their continual well-being. She has helped many individuals avoid hospitals and surgeries. Katherine Shapiro
I continually aspire to integrate yoga into every aspect of my life.
Liberating the body and mind through daily practice in order to develop into a more loving and compassionate being. I am grateful for all my teachers, some quite accidental. Life is the Guru. Thank you Krishnamacharya, Pattabhi Jois, Alan Finger, Gary Kraftsow, John Seelye, my children, family and friends. I am a senior yoga teacher with over 13 years of teaching experience. My certifications include ERYT - 500 registered with Yoga Alliance, Power PIlates and a BFA in Dance. I teach privately and in studios in New York City and the Hamptons including One Ocean Yoga, YogaWorks and Hospital for Special Surgery's Public Education Division and Greenberg Academy for the Ageing. Elizabeth credits Sally Kempton as her primary influence and mentor of the last 8 years, and honors Sally's teachings, along with Richard Freeman's, as the foundation of what she offers in her classes. Linda Muse is a certified Kripalu Yoga, Yoga Zone, and Yoga Ed. instructor who has 17 years of experience teaching yoga to adults and children.

Karen Meyer
Karen has been described by many as a "natural born teacher".

Frances Jones
By the grace, and with the blessing, of her teachers Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois, Frances Jones is an Authorized Level One Ashtanga teacher.
Frances has had a daily practice for the past 17 years and has been teaching Ashtanga for the past 13 years. Six trips to India have given her a solid grounding in the practice; on her last trip to India she was fortunate enough to assist Sharath in the Mysore shala. Gen Kelsang Norden
Gen Kelsang Norden is an English Buddhist nun.
Ordained as a Buddhist nun in 1994, Gen Norden has been teaching Buddhism and meditation in the US and the UK for the past 18 years. Her teachings are inspired by her deep love of Dharma and her many years of practice. Gen Norden moved to the East End of Long Island in 2010 when she was asked by her teacher Ven Geshe Kelsang Gyatso to become the Resident Teacher of Vajravarahi Buddhist Meditation Center, Sag Harbor
Mitten Wainwright
Mitten was introduced to Yoga at the age of 55 and in her very first class realized that the asana practice is a special gift to the body, mind, and spirit.
She believes that it gives one the opportunity and ability to move with greater harmony and grace through the rhythms of life. Having lived in NYC for 60 years, of which 30 of those years she taught early childhood education at Park Avenue Christian School, Mitten was more than delighted to move east and continue teaching here, this time Yoga to adults as well as children. With practical insights, she encourages her students to take a playful but carefully aligned asana practice on the mat out into their daily life. Mitten honors her many Anusara teachers and John Friend's tradition, gives gratitude to those who have encouraged her to teach, and appreciates the many students who continually open her eyes to new possibilities

Evelyn O'Doherty believes in yoga & meditation as a means to facilitate an energetic inward turning as well as create a dynamic connection between the mind & body.
A lover of Siddha Yoga meditation and a faithful practitioner of the Anusara Universal Principles of Alignment, Evelyn's yoga experience focuses on the power of the breath, the principles of alignment and the poise of the heart in order to dive within and maximize our human potential. She loves to incorporate vinyasa flow and meditation into every class
Monica Kadash
Monica - Yogini with an accent!
Monica grew up in a small town in Switzerland where she started practicing hatha yoga at the age of 14, over 30 years ago. Hatha yoga, along with chanting and meditation have been the pillars of her life, allowing her to experience happiness and freedom from within. She completed her teacher training in the Anusara style and philosophy, and holds a certificate at the 200 hour level. Monica has been teaching for eight years; she is known as an inspirational teacher who's main focus is alignment, breath and the language of the heart. While teaching a well rounded class, she has the ability and gift to take her students to a place of deep stillness within. Monica is also a professional Doula, certified by DONA International, who serves and educates women during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, making this most defining time truly remarkable.
