Slow-Sale Discount
After each 30-day period our merchandise goes unsold, we deduct an additional 10% off of the original price. When you find something interesting, chances are you're not the only buyer with an eye on the prize.
Merchandise Guarantee
We take great care to inspect, clean and repair merchandise prior to accepting it into our showroom. Each piece is handpicked and committee-approved, and we make every effort to accept only the highest quality pieces in town. While good to mint condition is preferred, we will occasionally bring in worn pieces when they are unmistakably charming.
Fair Trade Pricing
Pricing is always a decision made in partnership with our consignors, but condition, style, manufacturer reputation and original purchase price are all factors in the pricing equation. We are confident our pricing formula will appeal to your keen bargain-hunting senses.

How Does On the Road Again Work?
Please give us a call at 708-949-8504, email:consign@ontheroadagainconsign.com, and we will be happy to answer any questions.
Step 1: The Evaluation Process
Before we get started, we need to be sure that your merchandise is saleable.
Send us a picture
From a picture, we are able to get a sense of the style and condition and are then able to ask some educated questions about your furniture. You can e-mail us pictures at consign@ontheroadagainconsign.com, physically bring them in or mail them to us and we will return them at no cost to you. Please make an appointment to meet with either Nancy or Jeanne to review and discuss your items in private. We can arrange to travel to your home to review larger items.
Condition
To be saleable in our store, the merchandise must be in good to mint condition. Evaluating your furniture on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, we look for pieces that are in between a 7 and a 10.
Style
We welcome quality items that have a timeless sense of style. Furniture, like clothing, can go in and out of style. Out of date furniture can be well-constructed and in pristine condition, but if the style is not saleable today, then we would not be able to handle your merchandise.
Original Purchase Price
We like to take into consideration the original purchase price of your furniture. This helps us to develop an asking price and to see if it can command an asking price that would make sense for you as the consignor and for us as your agent.
Step 2: Pricing
Our pricing formula includes several factors
Condition, style, finish, color, original sale priceand in some cases, what the piece could be purchased new for in the current market. Any information and historical information that you have on the piece is also helpful. We will factor in our experience with how other similar pieces have sold in the past as well.
Our pricing specialist will carefully inspect your items
and then recommend pricing with consideration given to condition, quality of constructions, manufacturer, original purchase price, style, and market demand of the item. We view each consignment as a partnership. It is in everyone's interest to price items at a fair market value that would realistically sell within 30 days.
Step 3: Logistics
Logistics
Getting the merchandise to our store: If it is possible for you to deliver your merchandise to our store, we are able to assist you during any of our normal business hours. For larger items, it is best to call ahead to be sure that we have some strong backs on-site to give you hand. We also offer an affordable and professional pick-up service. Rates vary based on location. Just call for details.
Step 4: Touchup
Touchup
We'll take it from here! We polish and touch up your furniture to make it as desirable as possible. After all, it is in our interest to sell your merchandise for as much as possible! From there, we professionally merchandise your furniture, and our professional sales staff will work to sell your items.
Step 5: Sale and Payment
Sale and Payment
Upon the sale of your furniture, we will write you a check for our agreed-upon compensation. Checks are batched together at the end of each month for the previous month's sales. Checks are available for pick up at the shop after the 15th of each month.
What are the consignment terms?
Minimum of a 90-Day Consignment Period.
On the Road Again pays the consignor 50% of the item's sale price. Our commission for handling the sale is the remaining 50%.
At 30 Days, the price of the item will drop by 10% of the original sale price.
At 60 Days, the price will drop by another 10% of the original sale price.
At 90 days, the consignment period will expire. Any item remaining in the store after the expiration date which has not sold may be removed by the consignor.
Additional Service fees may apply to items that require excessive cleaning or repair work. These fees will be discussed with consignors prior to accepting the item on consignment.
Commission Checks are available for pick up at the shop after the 15th of each month.
Checks that are lost can be replaced for a $25 fee.
Our Story
We have found ourseleves on another journey, here with our new shop "On The Road Again".
What led us here is our constant quest for bargain hunting, merchandising, decorating with one-of-a-kind items and meeting people. This is not our first time at retailing, so let us fill you in on what led us down this road.
We have been co-workers and friends since 1993.
We were drawn to find an avenue to express our creativity away from the office...we landed on fabric and quilts and realized that we could join forces and build a Quilting fabric and supply shop and wanted to create a shop that was warm and welcoming, Threadneedle Street was born.
Why call it Threadneedle Street?
The answer was simple...this street is the street in London that houses the Bank of England, we liked that association to money in the bank. One of us is a huge Beatle's fan and the name sounded very Beatle-esch. Our tag line was "On the Road to Creativity".
In September of 1997 we started to look for a place to open a Quilting fabric and Supply store when we saw the old yellow farm house in historic Orland Park with a For Sale sign.
We could not get to a phone fast enough to call the number and see the property...well what happened next was we owned our first commercial property by October 1997. This was a very large step since now we needed to get the property ready and get our initial merchandise and get the shop up and running!
No small task, we sanded, painted, busted up and old tub, rebuilt walls and were ready to open by mid May 1998.
We were ready to embark On the Road to Creativity. Over the 8 12 years we were open we collected a very large customer base and were quite successful. We held outdoor annual quilt show every labor day weekend, we had auctions, retreats, barbeque's in the yard, you name it, and we tried it. We decided to close our doors in July 2006, when we just were out of steam...To run a quilt shop you have to offer classes and create samples to continue to inspire your customers. Not an easy task.
We took a break and rented the building for 2 years to Village Unlimited that specialized in Department 56 villages and he also had a large selection of gift items.
When they moved out in May of 2009 we tried renting.
After a few months, several prospects, but no renters we started brainstorming.
We already had a trip planned to go to Sisters, Oregon and the Washington coast, this would be the perfect opportunity to get a business plan in order. With days of sight seeing mixed with treasure hunting we landed on a consignment shop. We are On The Road Again and so are the treasures you will find within our little yellow shop on the corner. Looking forward to meeting you and help you find that treasure you have been looking for.
Every Tuesday at the Plainfield Location until the end of August we will be open until 9pm
