Step inside an unassuming townhouse in Brooklyn to see, touch, and wear pieces from one of the largest collections of ancient Egyptian and Roman artifacts in New York City. Join New York Adventure Club as we visit one of New York City's most interesting and unusual museums known as The Living Torah Museum / Torah Animal World, which features two separate interactive collections based on the premise that touching religious and cultural artifacts is the best way to learn about ancient history. Led by museum curator Rabbi Deutsch, who single-handedly amassed the museums' amazing collection of priceless artifacts, our experience will include: A discussion around the museum's creation and ongoing mission to serve the local community; A visit to the Living Torah Museum, which contains treasures and artifacts from thousands of years ago — unlike any other museum you've ever visited, you'll be able to touch, wear, and, wield ancient relics from the past! Underground Manhattan, The History of the NYC Subway System

Join New York Adventure Club as we explore the oldest subway stations in New York City with transit expert and guide Gary Dennis. Working our way up from Brooklyn Bridge — City Hall station to Grand Central Terminal, our subterranean experience will include: The history and inside story of the creation of the original 1904 subway line, and how it grew into the most extensive transportation system in the world; A closer look at the art, architecture, and secrets hiding in plain sight of stations including Brooklyn Bridge - City Hall, Astor Place, and Times Square; A glimpse of Old City Hall Station from the 6 train, the crown jewel of the subway system, which closed in 1945. Since our tour starts outside, a MetroCard swipe will be needed to enter the subway system. Please bring water, snacks, and comfortable shoes as we'll be on our feet for most of the tour. This tour does not access the Old City Hall Station platform or any restricted areas. This tour concludes at Grand Central Terminal.

Behind-the-Scenes @ Riverside Church, Tallest Church in U.S.

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive vertical exploration through the historic Riverside Church in Morningside Heights, the tallest church in the United States, which is modeled after the 13th Century gothic cathedral in Chartres, France. Led by one of the church's managers, our experience through this Neo-Gothic masterpiece will include: A historical overview of the John D. Join New York Adventure Club for an exploration of the landmarked Shearith Israel synagogue, commonly known as the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, which is home to North America's first Jewish congregation dating back to 1654. Led by guide and long-time congregant Janet R. Kirchheimer, our unique experience through this Neoclassical synagogue dating back to 1897 will include: The origin story of the congregation, from escaping the Spanish Inquisition, to conflicts with pirates, to struggles with New Amsterdam colony Governor Peter Stuyvesant; A quick primer on Judaism and what it means to be either of Ashkenazi or Sephardic heritage; Stories of the congregation's most famous members including Asser Levy and Emma Lazarus; A multi-floor exploration of the synagogue to see historic rooms, original artifacts, and the breathtaking main sanctuary with floor-to-ceiling works designed by Tiffany. While some might look to books, photographs, or movies for the answer, one sanitation worker made it his mission to tell the city's story through what New Yorkers threw in the trash — 50,000 pieces and counting. Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look inside the "Treasures in the Trash" Collection, a curated 50,000 piece collection of New Yorkers' trash dating back to the 1980s — all hidden on the second floor of a New York City Department of Sanitation garage in East Harlem. Join New York Adventure Club for a traditional Japanese tea ceremony demonstration in the style of Urasenke, one of the main schools of Japanese tea ceremony, at the Urasenke Chanoyu Center (UCC). Established in 1967 to promote the rich cultural tea tradition of Urasenke in New York City, the UCC is a private organization that teaches its members how to master this ancient tradition over the course of 10-15 years. Led by a Tea Master of Urasenke, our unique experience at the Urasenke Chanoyu Center will include: A brief overview of the Urasenke Chanoyu Center, from its days as an 1880s carriage house to studio of famed artist Mark Rothko; Access inside the secret Japanese garden and its four traditional tea rooms, all of which were constructed by traditional carpenters from Kyoto, Japan using imported Japanese materials; An authentic Urasenke tea ceremony demonstration to learn about its history and philosophy, etiquette, and traditions; An opportunity to consume the best quality sweets and matcha green tea from Kyoto, Japan, where Urasenke originated. Inside Holographic Studios, Holography Gallery & Laser Laboratory

Once you open the door to this unassuming Midtown East storefront, you'll be transported to a universe dedicated to the mesmerizing art of holography, where science fiction meets science fact (especially in the subterranean laser lab). Join New York Adventure Club for a rare trip inside Holographic Studios, the longest operating gallery & laboratory of holography in the world, and only one of its kind in New York City. Led by scientist and holographic technology pioneer Jason Sapan (aka Dr. Laser), our unique experience will include: An overview of the origins of holography and how a hologram is made; A look at different types of hologram technology, including reflection holograms (which are fully three dimensional), multi-channel holograms (that change from one image to another as you walk past), and integral holography (full motion images); A look at the gallery's most notable & unique pieces, from celebrity portraits (Andy Warhol, President Bill Clinton, Billy Idol) to a private commission of a palace in Saudi Arabia; A rare visit to the subterranean laser lab where we'll get a live demonstration showing how holograms are created. Inside the Museum of the American Gangster & 1920s Speakeasy Remnants

Ascend a flight of stairs to a former East Village brothel to learn about the rise (and fall) of the American Gangster, before descending into the basement to see remnants of a 1920s speakeasies that entertained politicians, Police Department leaders, and even Al Capone. Join New York Adventure Club for a late night tour of the Museum of the American Gangster — located in one of NYC's most notorious Prohibition-era speakeasies (known as Scheib's Place), the goal of the museum is to objectively present the role that crime has played in shaping the politics, culture, myth and lore of New York City — and beyond. Our unique experience at the museum and former speakeasy will include: An exploration of the history of Jewish and Italian gangsters, and their involvement in the city's prohibition movement; Encounters with prohibition-era objects such a Tommy gun and the death masks of John Dillinger; A trip through the hidden and preserved spaces of the old speakeasy, including the former dance floor, bar, and basement where the owner once stashed millions in illegal cash. Stick around after the tour to (legally) order a drink at a portion of that very same prohibition-era speakeasy, today known as William Barnacle Tavern! NY Adventure Club Presents: Behind-the-Scenes Tour @ NYPD 26th Precinct

While New York Adventure Club does not charge for events hosted by NYPD, advance registration and a deposit will be required, which will be fully refunded upon attendance. Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the NYPD 26th Precinct, located in the Manhattan neighborhood of Manhattanville. Our special experience with the 26th Precinct, which is in charge of the areas between 110th & 141st Sts to Riverside & St. Nicholas Parks, will include: An overview of policing by the Community Outreach Officer, from general terminology to effective strategies for keeping communities safe; A discussion around civilian programs within the NYPD, including the Auxiliary Police Program and Citizens Police Academy Program; A peek inside a temporary holding cell; A discussion with a detective from the Precinct's Detective Unit about their daily roles and responsibilities. If we're lucky, we'll get to visit the Emergency Service Unit (aka New York City's SWAT Team), along with their garage and dispatch trucks. Since this tour can last up to three hours, we encourage attendees to bring water and snacks to hold you over until dinner! Exploring the Secret Eats & Ethnic Diversity of Staten Island

Staten Island's Latin American, Albanian, Sri Lankan, and Indian communities have surged over the past decade, and at one single intersection unbeknownst to most, their cultures and culinary palates collide. Join New York Adventure Club as we venture to the Staten Island neighborhood of Tompkinsville to learn about, and taste our way through, four growing ethnic communities on the island. Led by local neighborhood expert and Staten Island local Meredith Tobak, our unique culinary experience will include: A custom-made NY Adventure Club route to showcase some of the best ethnic eateries in Staten Island; The origin story of how these different communities ended up settling on Staten Island, and how they've reinvigorated the local economy; An eclectic mix of neighborhood bites including Sri Lankan string hoppers, giant South Indian dosas, Albanian Borek, and home-cooked tacos from a family restaurant hidden behind a bodega; A stop inside a local grocery store to see the staple ingredients that make up these international cuisines. Exploring the Carlton Arms Hotel, "Pee-Wee's Playhouse Meets Fawlty Towers"

Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the 54-room Carlton Arms Hotel, which has become a vibrant permanent exhibition of art with every inch of space covered by the incredible colorful works of artists from around the world. Led by one of the hotel managers, our special experience will include: The history and story behind Carlton Arms Hotel and why it began letting artists paint the walls in 1984; A walkthrough of the five-story hotel and its current art installations including paintings, sculptures, and mosaics; A peek inside several of its fantastical and whimsical hotel rooms, each one done by a different artist; A discussion around the Carlton Arms Art Project, which offers selected artists free room and supplies for the time needed to complete their project.
