Back in March of 1988 we turned our love for computers into a business with one goal in mind
To offer the best service and hardware at a reasonable price. Because the IT market grows so rapidly and is always evolving, we constantly strive to improve and stay up to date with the latest trends and information. When it comes to solving computer problems, deciding what hardware is the best for your needs, MAC's Tech Hut / Micro Air Computers is your go to place for all this and more. Our new 1200+ square foot showroom is brimming with the latest tech as well as a section for pre-owned PCs, Notebooks, and Tablets. We also have pre-owned power supplies, optical drives, and various adapters, controller and video cards in-stock for those still trying to keep that older PC running
Are you like most of us that have collected a basement full of old, outdated, or no longer functioning electronics that you wish you could get rid of?
Well look no further! Micro Air can help you with this too. We offer FREE electronic recycling (Unfortunately we can longer accept TVs and monitors with a picture tube and projection TVs because our recycler no longer takes them). If you want to make sure that we take what you have, give us a call at: 484-334-8900. Whether you have one piece or a whole car load, it is no problem. We can pile all your electronics on our cart for easy wheeling into our store
Have sensitive personal data on that old PC's hard drive?
No problem there either. For $5 we will remove your hard drive and attach it to a device that will do a military grade DOD (Department of Defense) erase to it. Please note that the drive does need to be functional for this to happen
As you can see with the experience and expertise MAC's Tech Hut / Micro Air Computers has to offer
you can be assured that you'll always find a solution to your needs with the latest technology and reliable advice
Meet Our Team
Phone: 484-334-8900; Norm founded Micro Air Computers (now MAC's Tech Hut) back in March of 1988. When he did so he brought a wealth of experience with him. He was introduced to computers at a young age and started writing and selling his own game software in the late 70s at the age of 13 for a computer manufactured by APF called, "The Imagination Machine." Back then there were many computer brands and operating systems competing for space. All but the Apple and Windows based PCs have long since disappeared. This early start into what has now become the computer revolution, has enabled Norm to support not only computers of today, but those of yester year as well. Because Norm has been in the industry for such a long time he still has many of the older legacy components hanging around. So if you have an old PC that needs repair, Micro Air (now MAC's Tech Hut) may just have the part that you are looking for. Being skillful with a soldering iron has enabled Norm to perform repairs that other repair shops cannot. Such as replacing a broken DC jack on a notebook rather than replacing the entire motherboard. Norm is our Notebook repair specialist. Whether you have a cracked screen or a broken DC jack, Norm can fix it
Phone: 484-334-8900; Travis started his journey with Micro Air (now MAC's Tech Hut) back in July of 2005. Besides being a great tech that works on your computer problems both in our office and yours, he is also an avid gamer. When it comes time to configure that custom rig of yours, Travis is our go to guy to make sure that the hardware that we spec for you will not disappoint. He will not only help you to configure your new computer, but he is also the one that will build it. He will ensure that every component is installed and operating properly, all windows updates are installed, as well as the latest versions of JAVA, Adobe Reader and Flash are installed. For those of you purchasing a PC with Windows 10 installed, he will also make sure that the "Start Button" that we all have come to expect and love will function just like it should on the windows desktop. Windows 10 will even boot to the desktop instead of the Metro Menu. Feel free to give Travis a call with any of your technical or gaming questions
Phone: 484-334-8900; Phil has been with Micro Air Computers (MAC's Tech Hut) since September of 2007 and is very comfortable working in our backroom trying to resolve all the problems that plaque the sick PCs that are brought into us for repair. Having his MCE and A+ certification, he is very resourceful when it comes to figuring out what ails each machine and tries his hardest to make sure that your computer's stay with us will be as short as possible
Getting professional, comprehensive advice is an absolute necessity when it comes to choosing a computer. That's why our employees regularly attend vendor training events. At least twice a year we attend trade shows where we are face to face with over 150 manufacturers. Talking one on one with them and learning what is new in their product offerings allows us to better provide the right solution to our clients. This not only allows us to "play" with the new hardware, but also gives us vital contact information in the event that we need to reach out to that vendor in the future. Over the 25+ years that we have been in business we have gathered a vast contact list which allows us to be always ready to offer you the best, most accurate, advice. So whether you are just shopping for new hardware and want to know what is best for your needs, or you have a sick computer and are in need of advice as to what it will take to repair it, we are here to help you in a friendly and courteous manner. We Also Offer:
Maintenance and Repair
Free Electronic Recycling
Virus / Spyware Removal
Notebook Screen Replacement
DC Jack Repair
Hard Drive Cloning
Secure Wipe (DOD) of old hard drives
Windows XP Support Ends
On April 8th, 2014, Microsoft ceased to support one of their most widely adopted operating systems. Windows XP is no longer being patched nor supported after this date. Any security flaws that are found in the operating system will be an open door for a flood of new viruses to be produced. If you are still running Windows XP, you may want to consider upgrading your operating system to either Windows 7 / 8 / 10. If your system is more than five years old it is recommended that you actually replace the hardware rather than just upgrade the operating system. For complete details on what Windows XP going out of support truly means to you, please call our office at: 484-334-8900
Maintenance and Repair
Our computer specialists are here to help you with all your maintenance and repair needs, including repair work for items with or without a current warranty. We can also build a PC for you to your exact specifications, professionally cleanse sensitive equipment and much more. Want to make sure that your PC is running as efficient as possible? MAC's Tech Hut / Micro Air can help there too. We offer preventative maintenance programs where we will come out to your home or business and perform the following on a quarterly, bi-annual, or annual basis:
Clean all the dust out of the inside of each PC
Make sure that all the fans are spinning
Determine if any capacitors on the motherboard are starting to bulge and thus indicate a failing motherboard
Tune-up the PC
Download and install all Windows, Adobe, and JAVA updates
Scan the PC(s) for viruses/spyware
Optimize the hard drive
Virus / Spyware Removal
If you are experiencing any of the following, you may be infected with either Spyware or a Virus
Plagued with pop ups; PC running strangely or slow; Cannot browse the Internet; FBI warning message; A strange program telling you that you are infected and asking for money to fix it
The above are just a few of the warning signs that you are infected with either spyware or a virus.
MAC's Tech Hut / Micro Air can professionally remove the infections from your system. Generally for the fee of $119 we will scan your PC with three or more programs to make sure that you are infection free as well as perform a tune up to your PC to make sure that it is running optimally. In some cases your PC may be so infected that the only way to make sure that it is 100% infection free is to wipe the drive and reload the operating system (Windows). This is a very drastic step and only happens in about 5% of the cases that we disinfect. If your infection is too vast to clean it with software we will verify the following before we proceed: Do you have all the software to be reloaded back on your computer; Is there any data (documents, pictures, music, videos and/or email) that needs to be backed up; Did you get any recovery CDs/DVDs with your computer, or is there a recovery partition
Once we can establish how we need to go about putting your computer back to its factory original state, and if we need to backup any data, we will give you a total price for the service.
Generally this ranges from $159 to $199, and includes the initial $119 virus removal fee
Most virus removals can be completed in one to two business days.
So, if you are infected, please don't hesitate to bring it by our shop for a quick and through cleaning
Do you have PC that you have forgotten your log on password?
Bring it to MAC's Tech Hut / Micro Air Computers so our professional staff can remove the password for you. We can remove one, or all, of the passwords on the same computer for the price of $40.00. Don't let a forgotten password keep you from using your computer. (Your computer must be running Windows 7 or an earlier operating system for us to remove a password. We are unable to remove passwords from Windows 8 or 10 at this time)
Secure Wipe of old hard drives
efore you get rid of that old computer, whether it is being donated, sold, or recycled, you should make sure that all of your personal information on the hard drive is permanently and securely erased. Simply reformatting the hard drive DOES NOT do a secure erase of your data. All it does is erases the File Allocation Table. This table is like a card catalog in a library. It simply records where the data is stored on the hard drive. Because the data is never erased with a typical format, anyone with special data retrieval utilities can gain access to your personal data. Since our computers many times store passwords and bank account information on them, it is imperative that we FULLY and SECURELY erase our hard drives before they are no long in our possession. At MAC's Tech Hut / Micro Air Computers, for a nominal fee of $5.00, we will remove the hard drive and place it in our specially purchased hardware device that does a military grade Department of Defense secure erase of all data by writing ones and zeros on all areas of the hard drive. This ensures that your data is gone and cannot be retrieved. Feel confident that your personal data won't fall into someone else's hands. Have your hard drive DOD erased before you get rid of that old PC. For those of you with notebooks that have hard drives that require the entire notebook to be disassembled, (because your hard drive is mounted under the motherboard and not under an access door on the bottom of the notebook), your cost will be either:
The notebook is being recycle and does not need to be put back together
The notebook is being returned to you and reassembly is required
Hard Drive Cloning
Hard Drive Cloning
Have you used up all the storage on your hard drive and need a bigger hard drive, but you don't want to have to reload everything on that bigger new hard drive? Is your present hard drive making noise or about to fail? Not a problem. Our professional staff has the ability to clone (duplicate) any IDE or SATA hard drive to make reloading unnecessary. If your hard drive is failing, the success of the clone will depend on just how readable the information still is. In most cases a clone can be accomplished with 100% success. Don't let the daunting task of reloading your computer with all your programs and data keep you from upgrading to a bigger hard drive. Have it cloned today
Is your computer running slow?
For a fee of $40 we will delve into the registry and the inner workings of your computer to determine what is causing your slow down. Many times the root cause is a bunch of "bloatware" that has been installed on your PC. This bloatware can be a vast number of tool bars that have been installed as well as other software that tends to "come along for a ride" when we install programs that we truly want. To help avoid a buildup of this unwanted software, make sure that no unnecessary boxes are checked when you install your software. An example is installing Adobe Reader or Flash, as well as JAVA. During the install process all three of these programs try and install one or more other programs or tool bars. You can avoid this unnecessary software installation by simply unchecking the appropriate check boxes. Do you have more than one antivirus program running? This will definitely slow down your computer because each program is trying to scan the same files
Most of the time, performing the above service will bring your computer back to the speed it was when it was new.
However, sometimes the slowness is caused by a hardware problem such as a failing or aging hard drive. As our hard drives age they sometimes don't access our data as fast as they did when they were new. The problem can also be caused by a drive that has developed "bad spots" on the surface of the platters that store your data. These bad spots can cause a hard drive to have to reread the same data several times before it reads it correctly. This constant rereading can cause a dramatic performance slow down. To determine if this is the cause of your slowness, we would have to run extensive hard drive diagnostics. If caught in time we will have the ability to clone your hard drive before the drive fails completely and you lose all your valuable data. Not to mention all those important pictures that the majority of us have on our hard drives with no external back up. Hard drives and power supplies are the two components that fail the most. Don't let a potentially failing hard drive catch you by surprise. If you hear any squealing or clunking noises coming from the hard drive, have it checked immediately
What the tune-up includes
Removal of up to 10 unnecessary programs
$1 for each addition program needed to be removed
Deletion of unnecessary temporary files
Optimization of the hard drive
Download and install all Windows Updates, Adobe Reader/Flash and JAVA updates
Hard Drive and Memory diagnostics
DC Jack Repair
I your notebook no longer charges or you have to hold the A/C adapters jack a certain way to have your notebook power on at all; you probably have a bad DC jack in your notebook.
Fixing this problem requires the notebook to be completely disassembled and the motherboard removed. Once the motherboard is removed the failed D/C jack will be unsoldered from the board, the contact points cleaned, and a new DC jack resoldered back in place. The notebook will be re-assembled and test
The fee for this service, both parts and labor, is generally $180.
For those notebooks, like some Toshiba's, that have the DC jack on a cable harness, rather than soldered to the motherboard, your cost will be less
If you are experiencing the above problem; please don't keep using the notebook until it no longer turns on.
Doing so may result in the motherboard needing to be replaced instead of just the jack because of arching that can occur and damage the connection points beyond repair
Notebook Screen Replacement
f you are experiencing any of the following symptoms of a bad screen, we can replace it on average for around $180. Labor to replace most notebook screens is $80 plus the screen cost, which generally runs around $100. Screen prices do vary so please stop in with your notebook to get an exact cost. Labor to replace Netbook screens is generally less and may be as low as $40
Dim screen or no picture or ALL white screen
