About The Chef Bio
Chef Katsuji Tanabe is chef-partner at Mexikosher restaurant
the first authentic Kosher Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles.
Chef Katsuji grew up in Mexico
(his father's Japanese, and his mother's Mexican), he started cooking at age 14, moved to Los Angeles at age 19, attended Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, worked in Japan and Mexico and inside LA's most acclaimed kitchens such as Bastide and Mastro's Steakhouse and later at Shiloh's Kosher Steakhouse. His creative Kosher cooking led him to open Mexikosher in 2011.
Chef Katsuji is currently a contestant on this first season of TopChef Mexico
In 2014-2015, Katsuji was a contestant on season 12 of Bravo's "TopChef Boston"
In 2015, he was featured as a guest judge and mentor on MasterChef Mexico.
He won the Food Network's competition show "Chopped"
Appeared on a number of other shows including the Travel Channel's "Chow Masters
NBC's "Food Fighters" and PBS's Cooking Under Fire.
He serves as a personal mentor and celebrity representative for Jewish Big Brothers & Big Sisters
Los Angeles, where he happily offers his time and expertise in teaching healthy eating and cooking alternatives.
