MC does not serve your typical Vietnamese food and in the same vein Julie Mai, the owner, does not have your typical background. Julie grew up in a family where food was central, as her parents owned a restaurant of their own in Saigon, Vietnam.
She first traveled to France in high school where she found that her taste for fine food and her pocketbook were not aligned. She ended up washing dishes at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in exchange for a free meal. Not only did Julie find the best French cooking in the world, but she gained a wealth of knowledge from the master chefs in training. She went on to continue her education in America by attending Bradley University, where she received a bachelor degree in Chemistry.
Julie is a well known Chicago restauranteur. Over many years she has opened several successful restaurants in the Uptown neighborhood, having created Julie Mai’s Le Bistro on Clark street. After several years of retirement, Julie still wanted to share her experience and appreciation of quality food, so she opened MC Restaurant to share fine Vietnamese French food with the residents of Wicker Park. She personally trains every chef in her kitchen and has designed each dish on the menu to replicate the Cordon Bleu standard of quality fare.
Julie believes in giving back to the community. She hosts fundraisers for various charitable, political and other groups. For over 10 years she has been involved in the Library of Vietnam Project, which has built 28 school libraries throughout Vietnam. Contact Julie for your next event.
